🐾 'Hudson & Rex' Season 8 Premieres Tonight on UPtv - Episode Details, New Lead Actor, & More

Just wanted to send out this quick reminder for all of you "Hudson & Rex" fans. Season 8 begins tonight on UPtv at 8pm/7c - and yes, there is a big change!

Instead of seeing John Reardon, who played Detective Charlie Hudson for nearly 7 seasons, actor Luke Roberts steps into the lead role as Detective Mark Hudson.

However, after this season, you can expect to see actor John Reardon return for the 9th season. As I mentioned in a previous post, fans were, of course, not happy when John was initially let go from the series. John Reardon had originally stepped away during Season 7 to undergo treatment for tonsil cancer, but was not brought back for Season 8. I am glad, as someone who has watched the show here and there over the years, that they've decided to bring John back, and I know the show's most loyal fans are very happy, too.

Please note: I have not seen season 8 of this series. "Hudson & Rex" is a police mystery drama that will likely include crime and violence not intended for young viewers.

"Hudson & Rex" Season 8, Episode 1 - INTO THE WILDS:
When the sole witness against the son of a powerful mob boss goes missing in the woods, it's up to Mark, Rex, and Jesse to track him down. The mob boss has already hired an assassin to find the witness.

Also, during this premiere, UPtv promises a special sneak peek of the series "Blue Skies," which is premiering its first season - Thursday, August 13th at 9pm/8c. on UPtv.

Here's a quick preview of both series:

Happy Sleuthing!

My thoughts on the "When Calls the Heart" Season 8 finale…

When Calls the Heart Season 8 finale…

{SPOILERS INCLUDED BELOW…}

Part of me is still somewhat in shock over the outcome of Season 8 – with Elizabeth ultimately choosing Lucas; however, I still had the sneaking suspicion, prior to the finale, I would be disappointed by When Calls the Heart once again, as I was at the end of season 5 – after Jack’s passing.

You see, I’ve been Team Nathan since day one - he is the Mountie, after all, who deeply cares for Elizabeth and very importantly, also little Jack. I’ve hardly seen Lucas take any interest there. The books the When Calls the Heart series is “loosely” based upon by Janette Oke – is a romantic, epic love story between the teacher and the Mountie. It’s about Elizabeth deciding against the lavish lifestyle she left behind and choosing instead, a more rugged life of hard work and service alongside her husband. To think Janette Oke’s books are filled with religious inspiration and character’s dedicated to doing God’s work – makes it a mockery for Elizabeth to choose a saloon owner, of all professions, especially in that time period.

Many of you who have been Hallmark movie fans for years, like myself, will also recall the way the Love Comes Softly series of movies was handled – which also did not follow the Janette Oke books. Remembering this was a red flag for me, that they may not stay loyal to Janette Oke’s original stories here, as well, even with this main, important theme.

Friendship:

Elizabeth’s character overall (unless she was teaching), in my opinion, was most unlikeable this entire season. Several times it was mentioned she didn’t feel quite like herself, or even a dress she chose – wasn’t even Elizabeth. I thought that was indicative of the influence Lucas had over her, which made her act or behave in a way that was not natural to her. She couldn’t just be herself. And don’t get me started on the riff between Elizabeth and Rosemary. That was the second worst story of the season, in my humble opinion, and why did they make up? It seems Elizabeth woke up one day and felt torn between these two men and desperately needed Rosemary’s advice. All of the sudden she selfishly needed her best friend back – thus facilitating the apology and friendship mending. While I was happy they were friends again, it seemed as if it was for self-serving reasons on Elizabeth’s part.

Elizabeth and Lucas and Nathan:

Watching the love story of Elizabeth and Lucas play out at the end of this finale episode, for me, was rather dull. After seeing a lot of responses on social media, I’m seeing I am not alone here. There are many, numerous fans disappointed in the decision of Elizabeth not choosing Nathan and the potential of a beautiful blended family. Throughout the entire season she never really even gave Nathan a chance. It’s as if she let the fear of choosing another Mountie overcome the possibility of giving her heart the opportunity to truly fall in love.

With the way Elizabeth’s character acted so cruelly towards Nathan all season, constantly turning him away and yet, stringing him along with playful glances and gestures, I was partly relieved she didn’t choose him, after all. Elizabeth truly did not deserve his love. She deserves Lucas. The writers/producers didn’t want Nathan, as a Mountie, to be a replacement for Jack, and yet the date Lucas and Elizabeth shared in the library at the end of the finale episode, looked very much like a repeat of a date between Jack and Elizabeth with the million candles (exaggerating on number here) all around the room. This pairing just didn’t seem to fit the overall theme of When Calls the Heart. In my opinion, it seemed to degrade the rest of the series, it felt forced. If she really loved him, would it take 3 years to decide between him and another man? And why did she tell Nathan she loved him, but wasn't in love with him? Again, that seemed terribly cruel. I guess Elizabeth is more Hamilton than Hope Valley, after all.

Frankly, I hope whoever Nathan chooses, will truly love him, for him, and their love story will over-shadow this triangle mess which left season 8 with a lot of unhappy fans.

Other relationships and observations in Hope Valley:

Why in the world was Clara baking a cake and not completely falling apart when Jesse was missing? Last time he was missing on the mountain, she and Rosemary hooked up the wagon and went up there to look for him, but this time she was baking a cake for him? – Almost as if it was no big deal?

Bill and Molly were casually going for a cup of coffee. Nothing beyond that, yet. And when Fiona and Hickam are discussing business plans, Florence and Molly are looking at them from afar… Florence wonders if they could be a potential couple, but Molly nonchalantly says she can’t she it.

Dr. Carson Shepherd leaves on the stage coach? And yes, I ended that sentence with a question mark. Did he really go? Right after Clara and Lee find his engagement ring, Carson appears to set off to the big city; however, we never actually see him in the stage coach waving goodbye. Will he return next season? We’ll see. Henry also departs Hope Valley - with a glance towards Abigail’s sign and a farewell to Hickam, who is taking over his oil business, along with Lucas and Fiona. I’m hoping Henry will return one day with Abigail. Also, did Lucas sell the saloon? I’m wondering, since he & Elizabeth are now together, if they may want to distance his character away from that persona and focus more on his partnership in the oil business.

Rosemary and Lee:

Rosemary finds her calling! Finally. She creates a new newspaper for the town called the Valley Voice. Although, I do recall Rosemary doing something similar to this in the past on When Calls the Heart, when she wrote a gossip column – several seasons back, which stirred up all kinds of trouble. The Valley Voice may end up doing that, eventually, as well. However, it was fun to see Lee and Rosemary working in the same office – and Lee encouraging Rosemary to follow her dreams. They are still the best couple in Hope Valley.

After a conversation with Pastor Joseph, Lee also discovers his calling to run for mayor, although he’ll have some competition, along with Judge Bill Avery, Mike Hickam and Fiona Miller, who is quite the mystery – with a former fiancé and friends in San Francisco, who seem to have a great deal of money.

In summation:

Even though this is just a TV show, for the last 12 weeks and 8 seasons, we’ve invested our hearts into these characters, the ups and downs, and everything in between. Except for the major love triangle and the finale episode disappointment, there have been some wonderful moments I’ve enjoyed this season with other characters. I personally loved the addition of the Canfield family, most of all, and the way they’ve powerfully displayed their love of God, by words and deeds, throughout Season 8. I especially loved when Joseph said, “God is good,” as he and Minnie were dancing at the wedding reception and the sincere way Minnie told Carson she would be praying for him. I look forward to even more inspiring moments like this. Since it is a wholesome family-friendly show, I do plan to watch Season 9 (yes, the series was renewed), but I hope they will focus more on other supporting characters in Hope Valley, besides Elizabeth, like they did with Ned and Florence (who I adored!) this season. And, I hope Nathan will ultimately have his own epic love story!

I would love to hear your thoughts, too. Please share in comments below.

*SEE MY UPDATE ON ERIN KRAKOW'S INTERVIEW BELOW...

Erin Krakow will be making her last appearance on Hallmark Channel's morning lifestyle show, Home & Family, on Wednesday morning at 10am/9c.! Why is this the last? Sadly, this is the final season for Home & Family hosted by Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison. Episodes will end airing in August.

Erin Krakow through the years on Home & Family...

As for Erin's current interview... will she be announcing another season for When Calls the Heart? Ratings have been spectacular for this 8th season - often surpassing every other program on cable TV - so that has to be good news. Right? I know many Hearties (including myself!) will be eagerly awaiting any details regarding a possible Season 9 and any hints on the Season 8 finale, too!

If you love the yellow dress seen on Erin Krakow on Home & Family, it's the Emory Dress by Love Shack Fancy. The dress is from last year, but you can still find some on Ebay - *CLICK HERE*. I personally just fell in love with it – plus, I adore yellow... it looks like a ray of sunshine!

For those of you who watch When Calls the Heart - have you chosen who Elizabeth should choose? I've been Team Nathan since the day he walked on set, but I would love to hear your thoughts, too!

Stay tuned - and I'll be sure to reveal whatever news Erin Krakow delivers on Wednesday morning - right here in this post! Simply refresh this page on Wednesday after Home & Family airs for the latest news!

UPDATE 5/5/2021: Erin Krakow's interview on Home & Family was a delightful plug for the Season 8 finale episode. She discussed what went into the decision on the man Elizabeth will ultimately choose. And, yes, there will be a special kiss! A scene from the finale episode was also shown with Elizabeth and Rosemary and it looks like they have finally patched things up and are friends again, which makes me soooo happy! In this scene, Elizabeth and Rosemary discuss both men, Lucas and Nathan, and the possibility of Elizabeth loosing her reason for coming to Hope Valley in the first place - teaching. Unfortunately, Erin does not mention a renewal for Season 9 during thee interview; however, when Debbie and Cameron ask Erin about potential characters who may be leaving, she does say something about leaving the viewers with a cliffhanger. So... we still have to wait and see, but I think we can all remain very hopeful for more stories from Hope Valley!

Blessings to you all! Net

All the new premieres look extra good this weekend! I love that Jon Cor is playing a past love interest for Lacey Chabert in this new Crossword Mystery, especially since Jon and Lacey starred together in Love on Safari. Since they already have that rapport together, it makes this storyline seem even more realistic, and definitely more interesting as we watch Detective Logan learn of their past romantic history.

The promos for the new UPtv movie, A Love to Remember, look rather cute. The movie's plot sounds quite a lot like an updated carbon copy of the popular 90's rom-com, While You Were Sleeping, which is a movie I've always adored. Not sure this one can top it, but I'm optimistic it will be enjoyable to watch too!

I plan to record and watch all of the new movies eventually, but I always watch When Calls the Heart on Sunday night. How about you? Which one (or more) are you looking forward to watching?

I hope you all have a pleasant Spring weekend full of sunshine!

Blessings! Net

Update on New 2021 Movies for UPtv and Hallmark + My Take on the latest When Calls the Heart...

Spring on the Hallmark Channel...

Spring is still blooming with new movies! In fact, the Hallmark Channel has 2 more Spring Fling movies coming our way on Saturday nights in April... As Luck Would Have It and Right in Front of Me! Both of these rom-com movies look charming. For the longest time I know many viewers had been hoping for an Irish themed movie that would honor St. Partrick's Day, and it appears their wish has finally come true, even though it's premiere is a little belated to celebrate the actual holiday. Click here for more details on As Luck Would Have It.

New Movies Coming Up on UPtv...

Not to be outdone by Hallmark, UPtv will have 3 new rom-com movies premiering on Sundays in April... A Love to Remember, Starting Up Love, and Designed With Love! I was happy to see Anna Hutchison from the PixL movie The Right Girl will be starring in Starting Up Love. She was extra cute in that movie; I'm hoping I'll love this one just as much! Plus, Charine Tilton, who you may recall as the funny, playful mother in A Welcome Home Christmas, also stars in Starting Up Love, so I'm looking forward to seeing her role as the Aunt in this one! Click here for UPtv's April movie posters and extra details. Beyond April on UPtv - look for Just for the Summer, starring Hayley Sales and Brant Daugherty, coming in May and wedding themed movies in June!

Christmas movies in May...

Look for these Christmas movies coming to the Hallmark Channel in May- Christmas in Dollywood, The Christmas Cottage, Meet Me at Christmas, and The Christmas Waltz! And we'll see these Christmas movies in May on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries- Christmas Next Door, Christmas in Evergreen: Tidings of Joy, and Christmas Under the Stars. See the Christmas TV Schedule for specific times and dates.

May Movies and June Summer Nights Movies on the Hallmark Channel...

Recently, the Hallmark Channel also announced new movies coming in April, May and June with Lacey Chabert, Tyler Hynes, Cindy Busby, Tim Ross, Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith and more - see here! Lacey Chabert and Tyler Hynes' new movie together has been named Sweet Carolina.

A *Christmas in July* possible clue?

If Hallmark continues their Christmas in July movie events - Christmas Keepsake on the Hallmark Channel and Gold Crown Christmas on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, they usually air around the launch of the Keepsake Ornaments in the Hallmark Gold Crown Stores. If that stays true this year, then that should be July 10-18, 2021, when Hallmark's Ornament Premiere Event takes place. Stay tuned!

August - Chesapeake Shores TV Series:

Chesapeake Shores is expected to return to the Hallmark Channel in August. The cast will be filming season 5 soon. As most have heard, Jesse Metcalfe who played singer and bar/restaurant owner, Trace Riley, will be leaving early on in the opening episodes. One can imagine his disparture might be explained easily by his plan to travel with his band. This had been an inner struggle with his character for some time. Should he explore his singing career or stay in Chesapeake Shores? It's going to be quite different not to have Jesse Metcalfe on the show; he was such a major character on there. It makes one wonder what will happen with #Trabby - AKA Trace and Abby. It was clear, so I thought, from the start that Abby came back to Chesapeake Shores so she could be with family and get back together with Trace. I figured all of this back and forth was just part of the show, to keep viewers interested and watching. For me personally, their love story dragged in the last season. Would they? Won't they? And then - there was the kiss at the end. What did it mean? I guess it means he's leaving now. There's no indication that Meghan Ory is leaving the show early, too - so I guess that's the end of their relationship. I don't think CS fans (Chessies) are going to be too thrilled with this, but that's just my feeling.

Hallmark in 2022:

If August isn't far enough in advance, Hallmark recently announced a new movie for Winter, 2022 titled Love and Ice Wine, starring Nazneen Contractor (A Winter Getaway) and Brennan Elliot (Crossword Mysteries). According to the press release, "Contractor stars as Cristina, a food and wine critic who hits her head and loses her memory while accidentally visiting a winery she panned in the past, owned and operated by single dad Michael (Elliot)."

When Calls the Heart - my Quick Review of where we stand after episode 7...

For those of us who are currently watching Season 8 of When Calls the Heart, there seems to be so much going on within one show. Is it just me? I feel like each scene moves by so fast; I want even more time and depth with each character. ** SPOILERS ** I personally wanted to see Allie's adoption ceremony with her Uncle Nathan. Is she going to call him Daddy now? I loved that she only invited one special person; she's such a smart girl, a good little schemer. I think she and Rosemary would work well together. One thing's for sure, it's obvious how much Allie loves and adores her Uncle Nathan. I sure wish Elizabeth could figure it out. I felt like Lucas was guilting Elizabeth into showing him some attention with his fancy words while Nathan, as usual, was simple and straight forward. However, from the previews shown for next week, it looks like Nathan might have a secret after all with his time at Fort Clay and Elizabeth is very upset. I don't know. I'm just over the love triangle. As for Ned and Florence, I think their love story is the surprising romance of the season that has swept everyone's hearts. I was so touched by each of their scenes, especially when Ned awoke and saw Florence so lovingly waiting there for him, deep in prayer. Plus, the moment she sang, too - how beautiful was that? Would have liked to seen more with Carson and Faith after Ned woke up. These two need something good and positive to happen in their relationship. As for Lee and Rosemary, I always want more of this delightful couple. Rosemary has the biggest heart; however, she might not be the best person to take over as telephone operator, even if it's temporary. The next obvious question is... will this be temporary? Is this the fulfilling work Rosemary is seeking? Love the scenes with Bill giving advice to Nathan and later on with Lee. It's nice how Bill is a father figure to so many, including Clara and Jesse. Speaking of Jesse and Clara - please talk already! I love how Joseph gave them both individual marriage and spiritual advice. I found it sad when Clara said Jesse wasn't very religious; it's obvious the town of Hope Valley is spiritually hungry and they need a shepherd like Joseph Canfield to lead them, even if he is pushing away from the idea while God keeps pulling him back. Well, that's my quick take. I would love to know your thoughts. Please share in comments below...

Hope you all are having a lovely Spring season, thus far. Sounds like there are plenty of movies still sprouting up - that we can look forward to viewing!

Blessings, Net

Another weekend is here, my friends. At a time like this, with all of the sadness going in the world, it's nice to see how UPtv is honoring the Easter holiday with Biblical and inspirational programming. We definitely need more stories that share peace, hope and God's amazing love.

On Saturday, we can see many familiar faces in the UPtv movies- including Trevor Donovan in
Love Finds You in Charm, Sarah Lancaster in Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Lindsay Wagner in Love Finds You in Valentine, and Candace Cameron Bure in Finding Normal!

Also, I'm sure all devoted fans of When Calls the Heart will be glued to their TV's again this weekend to watch the marathon on Sunday and see what happens next in the all new episode. My heart is totally invested in this season and each character. It's wonderful how the writers have more fully explored the various roles each person plays within the community of Hope Valley. I've always been most intrigued by Rosemary and Lee; I'm quite curious to see what the selling of Dottie's dress shop will mean for Rosemary's future. What direction will she take now with her life? This season, I love the addition of the Canfield family; I keep hoping Joseph will eventually become their new minister. Hope Valley has gone way too long without a spiritual leader. Two new favorites for me to watch this season are Florence and Ned. What a sweet little development to watch these two work so closely together and see how much they care for one another. Also, when is Fiona returning to Hope Valley? I miss that fun, sweet girl! And, yes... I'm still personally rooting for Mountie Nathan Grant to win Elizabeth's heart in the end. I truly feel he already has; Elizabeth simply hasn't accepted the risk of letting her heart go. That's just my thoughts... please share yours in comments below!

Hope you enjoy the new premieres this weekend!

Blessings to you all!

Happy Palm Sunday! Net

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend - enjoying the first day of Spring, along with the first Spring Fling movie! As usual, I'm looking forward to seeing everything NEW this weekend, especially "When Calls the Heart!"

And... the new "Mystery 101: Killer Timing" looks especially intriguing. Hallmark shows in the movie promo - Kristoffer Polaha's character Detective Travis Burke walking by a building - when suddenly there is an explosion that throws him a distance! Did you know something very similar to that actually happened to Kris in real life? He had drifted away from God spiritually, but he felt like God was trying to pull Him back. That unexpected event miraculously brought him back to Christ. You can read the full story about it at beliefnet - here. It is truly incredible and inspiring! Please let me know your thoughts about it or your take on the new movies in comments below...

Have a Blessed Weekend, Everyone!

Happy Spring! Net

SHINING HIS LIGHT:

"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance..."
