PLOT:

In 1967, sisters Juliet (Darby Camp) and Evangeline (Chandler Head) are abandoned by their mother at their unsuspecting grandparents’ farm in the small southern town of Fireside. Stunned by their sudden arrival, tender-hearted Walt (Corbin Bernsen) and champion fiddler Ruby (Melissa Gilbert) graciously stand in for the missing parents and create one blue-ribbon recipe for a loving family. Fireside, home of radio Station KOFF, kept secrets, broken promises and to-die-for sundaes serves as the backdrop for this heartwarming story full of surprises. Top it all off with the unexpected appearance of Walt’s ailing mother—eccentric, Emily Dickinson-quoting Itasca (Cloris Leachman), and laughter and tears abound. "When We Last Spoke – Oh my goodness… this movie was definitely unique; it made me laugh out loud and brought tears to my eyes. I would say it is family friendly for ages 12 and up. This movie first takes place as two little girls, Juliet and Evangeline, are growing up in the 1960’s. It covers a lifetime of love and happiness, as well as loss and sorrow. When their mother can’t take care of them anymore, she leaves the girls with their grandparents, Walt and Ruby Cranbourne, played fantastically by well-known actors, Corbin Bernsen (“Psych”) and Melissa Gilbert (“Little House on the Prairie”). What love these two gave these two abandoned little girls, Juliet and Evangeline, along with a home-life and stability. Their father, in the meantime, is overseas fighting in the Vietnam War. Just when things were getting somewhat settled for the girls, their great-grandmother, Itasca Cranbourne, played by the late, great Cloris Leachman, comes to live with them and brings her own eccentric set ways. She’s a bit mixed up of where she is, at times, and misses her late husband George constantly. Mother Cranbourne is a hand full, along with the girls, but somehow Ruby and Walt manage. I personally enjoyed some parts of the story, while some sad scenes I did not. One person is thought to be having an affair, which isn’t true, and the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying as I had hoped it would be. The match of the actresses who portrayed the girls younger and older was phenomenal. In fact, I learned after watching it, that it was a real-life mother and daughter who played the younger and older version of Juliet. No wonder they looked so much alike! Overall, this movie was definitely interesting; it’s a coming of age story as Juliet and Evangeline grow from childhood to adulthood and grapple with the emotional issues of their youth." ~ Net

ATLANTA – March 9, 2021 – UPtv, the television home for uplifting entertainment, announced this year’s “Easter Lives Here” programming slate filled with contemporary uplifting films, inspiring biblical stories and a music special. With over 20 titles, UPtv remains the only place to find the biggest collection of Easter programming that truly celebrates the season.

The “Easter Lives Here” event kicks off Palm Sunday with The Passion of the Christ and culminates with the World Broadcast Premiere of the theatrical film When We Last Spoke on Easter Sunday (April 4) at 7 p.m. ET. Starring Corbin Bernsen, Melissa Gilbert and the late Cloris Leachman, When We Last Spoke centers around two sisters who, in 1967, are abandoned and raised by grandparents in the town of Fireside in this heartwarming tale of family, friendship and forgiveness. Following The Passion of the Christ on Palm Sunday, UPtv will kick off season one of The Chosen, the largest crowdfunded media project of all time and first multi-season series about the life of Jesus Christ. Episodes will air nightly beginning that Sunday through Holy Thursday, April 1, with a full season marathon on Good Friday.

Remembering Actress Cloris Leachman...

Sadly, legendary film and TV actress, Cloris Leachman, passed away on January 27, 2021. She was born on April 30, 1926 and lived to be 94 years old. Cloris will be fondly remembered for a variety of roles, including "The Beverly Hillbillies," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Facts of Life" and more... Plus, she had multiple guest star roles on many shows, such as: "Gunsmoke," "Lassie," The Donna Reed Show," "The Love Boat," "Perry Mason," "Diagnosis Murder," "Touched by an Angel," "Promised Land" and so on...


Cloris Leachman had an extensive career in film and on TV, and it's no wonder - with her spunky, vibrant personality and dramatic flair, Cloris fit into any character, whether it was the den Mother on "Facts of Life," the cranky, recluse woman in "Prancer," the peppy, high-spirited Granny in "The Beverly Hillbillies," or even the inspirational grandmother in "I Can Only Imagine." Cloris could play all of these roles perfectly.


Hallmark fans may also recall Cloris Leachman had a role in one of the Christian based, "Love Comes Softly" pioneer era movies, "Love Takes Wing," which aired on the Hallmark Channel in 2009. Cloris played the role of Miss Hattie and helped Dr. Belinda Simpson overcome her grief and reach out to the sick orphaned children, who were in desperate need.

While I loved Cloris in so many roles, I will personally remember her best from two of her family Christmas movies. The first one is "A Little Piece of Heaven," with Lacey Chabert and Kirk Cameron, from 1991. This sweet little movie is one that always touches the heart; I sure wish they would air it on TV again. I've had it on DVD for years, and I'm so glad to see Amazon still offers it.

The second Christmas movie that Cloris Leachman has a role in that is always a must see for me each Christmas, is Prancer! To say I absolutely love this movie is an understatement. It brings me such joy to see the little girl, Jessica, reach out to show love and kindness to Cloris' character, Mrs. McFarland, who lives all alone and is forgotten by everyone else in town. It is such a beautiful scene when Mrs. McFarland comes to church during a Christmas candlelight service. I typically become a bit misty-eyed at this point. There is so much more to this movie then just believing in Santa Claus, it's about overcoming loss and restoring one's faith and Cloris' character is key to that discovery.

This is the Seventh Movie of the "Love Comes Softly" Book turned Movie Series. The books are originally written by Christian author, Janette Oke and brought to the Movie format originally by Michael Landon, Jr. (The son of Michael Landon - Pa from Little House on the Prairie.) However, for this story... actor, Lou Diamond Phillips directed Love Takes Wing.

When a frontier town is devastated by an unknown illness, a young woman must stand up for those who need her help the most, even if it means standing alone. When a fatal illness breaks out in a small mid-Western
town, everyone must put aside their prejudices and
trust the town’s new doctor. Ultimately, it’s clear that
a little bit of faith – in oneself and in one another –
can go a long way.

Wounded by the recent death of her husband, Dr. Belinda Simpson (Jones) arrives in the tiny town of Sikeston to take up the post of town physician. Once there, she discovers that many of the town’s residents, including children at an orphanage run by Miss Hattie Clarence (Leachman), have fallen ill to or died from an unknown ailment.

Soon, Belinda begins to worry that she is in over her head, despite reassurances from her best friend, Annie (Duff), and the town blacksmith, Lee (Jordan Bridges, “Turn the River”). Unfortunately, the residents of Sikeston aren’t as trusting of Belinda’s abilities as a doctor – mainly because she’s a woman. As well, many of them don’t even want her to help the orphans, who they blame for infecting the rest of the town. Indeed, they would be happy to see the orphanage close altogether. Opposed by what seems like the entire town, Belinda must trust in her abilities, her friends and her faith to guide her.

Movie Review:

I love the Janette Oke books and each of the movies are sweet and endearing... however, I was slightly disappointed with two features in this movie.

First, it was hard to adjust with the new blonde Dr. Belinda Simpson. The young woman who portrayed her in Love's Unfolding Dream had lovely dark hair. Why the drastic change, here? It didn't make sense with casting. It was hard to think of this woman as being the same from the previous movie.

Another thing... Belinda's husband, Drew, has died, leaving her a widow. This has happened three or four times now in the course of this Love Comes Softly movie series. I only wish the movies could have followed the book series, that I loved, closer.

In spite of those things, however, this is still an absolutely wonderful movie! This is the same wholesome family entertainment... that I've grown to expect, respect, and welcome from the Hallmark Channel.

I loved Cloris Leachman in this... she is such a vibrant and vivacious actress! She absolutely stole the screen whenever she was on!

and...

I also loved the very handsome Jordan Bridges, as Lee, the town's Blacksmith, who falls in love with Belinda. Their love story was the highlight of the movie!

And the children... are so precious and dear at the orphanage!

All in all... a movie I enjoyed and would watch over and over again!
