Carlos PenaVega to Star in NEW TV Series from Angel Studios

Exciting update! Around this time last year it was revealed that Angel Studios, an independent media company and film distribution studio who often creates Christian content, would be developing a new TV series based on the beloved faith-based film, A Week Away, featuring Bailee Madison (Northpole, Date with Love) and Kevin Quinn (A Christmas Love Story).

Well, it was announced just yesterday on Deadline that Carlos PenaVega will take on the role of "Jeremy, a charismatic youth pastor who becomes a trusted mentor to the campers on their journey."

According to the article, "A Week Away: The Series follows a group of kids as they embark on a summer at Camp Aweegaway — a Christian camp filled with adventure, friendships, and unexpected self-discovery."

Also starring in the new series alongside Carlos PenaVega are: Antonio Cipriano, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, David Koechner, Leigh-Allyn Baker, Sacha Carlson, Ava Jean, Haven Greene, and Jason Marsden.

Alan Powell (from Christmas in the Smokies and the Christian rock group Anthem Lights) was one of the co-writers of the original film and is also a showrunner for the new series, along with Kali Bailey and Cozi Zuehlsdorff.

I believe this series sounds fantastic! I'm eager to discover where we can watch it. Hopefully, it will be accessible to many of us viewers.

🌟🌟 Brighten Your Weekend with New Christmas Movie Premieres 🌟🌟 on Hallmark, Great American Family, UPtv, and Lifetime

Happy Weekend, Friends!

It's another jam-packed few days filled with new Christmas movie premieres from Thursday to Sunday!

The main theme for this weekend seems to be about stars, literally and figuratively.

Most importantly, however, Hallmark Channel's new DaySpring movie, Following Yonder Star, focuses on the most significant, meaningful, and epic star of all... the Bethlehem star. I have come to love and enjoy all of the previous DaySpring line of inspirational films, such as The Blessing Bracelet and Miracle in Bethlehem, PA (which, by the way, is airing just before this new premiere Sunday night), and I have high hopes that I will also enjoy Following Yonder Star just as much. Brooke D'Orsay has been one of my absolute favorites since her very first Hallmark role in How to Fall in Love, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing her in this uplifting, faith-filled film.

As for the other stars featured this weekend...

Hallmark Mystery's All I Need for Christmas features an aspiring singing star, played by Mallory Jansen.

And Great American Family's Get Him Back for Christmas features a pop music star, played by Alexa Pena Vega, who loses her way after a heartbreaking break-up.

Although not about stars, Hanukkah on the Rocks is about the search for Hanukkah candles, which may end up lighting the path for a recently unemployed corporate lawyer.

Storyline: Maggie (Mallory Jansen) has been trying for years to break in as a singer/songwriter. Thankfully, Abby finds a room at a quaint B&B, owned by Tom Maguire (John Brotherton), who is also a high school astronomy teacher. Since his wife's passing, Tom has taken on a lot of extra responsibilities, including running the inn and directing the local church's Christmas pageant. Empathizing with Tom, Abby offers to help with the pageant and various activities around the inn and finds herself enjoying both the projects and Tom's company. Through newfound community, family and love, Abby discovers that hope sometimes comes in the most unexpected ways.

Movie Recommendation:

I received a thoughtful email this week from a loyal follower. He wanted me to share with you all that the feature film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is now available to view by streaming.

He also shared this brief, positive review, "This is a wonderful wonderful movie and we think it will become a Christmas classic. If you haven’t seen it do yourself a favor."

I must say, I haven't seen this new Christmas movie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, yet, but since the day this film was announced, it has been on my must-see watch list! The original made-for-TV short that features this story is so beautiful and heartwarming. I'm hoping this new film will be just as special. And it sounds like, from this review, that it is!

My Weekend Watch List:

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and hopefully, you'll be able to watch many of the new and classic Christmas movies!

Following Yonder Star and Get Him Back for Christmas are my top two picks for this weekend.

At the top of this post, I mentioned my thoughts on Following Yonder Star, but I'll sum it up again by saying how much I look forward to these inspirational DaySpring films that always focus, whether it be Christmas or Easter, on the true meaning of the season.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Alexa and Carlos' second Great American Family movie premiere, Get Him Back for Christmas. It looks like this will be a lighthearted film filled with festive music, heartwarming moments, and inspiration. I just adore Alexa and Carlos; they are such a lovely couple and they have such beautiful children. Most of all, their faith in The Lord shines through with their giving spirits as they work with the Salvation Army, which will be prominently featured in their new Christmas movie.

I am so excited to share this news with you all today! Alexa and Carlos PenaVega's new Christmas movie, Get Him Back for Christmas, will now premiere at an earlier date than previously announced.

Get Him Back for Christmas will now premiere on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 8/7c. on Great American Family!

This is the real-life couple's second movie with the network. Their previous non-holiday film, Mr. Manhattan, premiered back in August and was well-loved by viewers. Hopefully, this is the start of many more original movies to come! Alexa and Carlos have such a strong foundation in their faith, three beautiful children here on earth and one with Jesus, and a gifted passion for music. I believe their movies reflect the heart of who they are, including their new film this Christmas!

Here's a scoop on the Get Him Back for Christmas storyline, directly from Great American Family:

In Get Him Back for Christmas, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Bella Harlan (Alexa PenaVega) comes home for Christmas and enlists her high-school songwriting partner Jack Grayton (Carlos PenaVega) to craft a song to win back her rockstar boyfriend by Christmas. As the two reunite for the first time in a decade, they embark on a Christmas journey down memory lane, and soon realize true love may be closer than they thought. The heart of the movie centers on Jack’s role with The Salvation Army, and Bella soon finds herself inspired by his devotion and passion to a life of doing the most good. Alexa and Carlos' new Christmas movie looks like a lot of fun, and it appears there will be an inspirational storyline, as well, about giving to others with The Salvation Army.

Since this movie was shuffled around in the schedule, that means Christmas In Scotland was moved to Saturday, December 21st, and A Royal Christmas Ballet remains in it's time slot, on Sunday, December 22nd, as the last new premiere of the holiday season for Great American Family.

A HOT COCOA CHRISTMAS, starring Susie Abromeit and Torrance Coombs. The modern-day reimagining of William Shakespeare’s beloved classic “Much Ado About Nothing” set at Christmas. Premieres Friday, November 29 (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT).

HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS, starring Candace Cameron Bure and Cameron Mathison. Two former childhood friends reunite after a beloved family members passes, leaving the future of his magical maple sugar farm in their hands. Premieres Thursday, December 5 (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT).

LET IT SNOW, starring Candace Cameron Bure, Jesse Hutch, and Alan Thicke. An executive evaluates her company’s property and begins to draw up plans for transforming the rustic old lodge into a hot tourist attraction. PremieresFriday, December 6 (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT).

A New York installation designer helps a small Scottish community create a dazzling light display to win “Best Christmas Village” festival. The designer is forced to work with a wealthy heir who doesn’t like Christmas, though feelings may change if the pair succeeds in creating joy for the community. CHRISTMAS IN MAPLE HILLS, starring Emily Alatalo, Bukola Ayoka, Ayinde Blake. A charismatic veterinarian needs to track down the enigmatic owner of her family’s land to preserve its legacy. Premieres Thursday, December 19 (8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT).

A ROYAL CHRISTMAS BALLET, starring Brittany Underwood and Jonathan Stoddard. A retired ballerina is pressed into service working with a visiting team of royal ambassadors to put on the season’s performance of “The Nutcracker” and finds herself center stage in an unexpected Christmas romance. WHEN HOPE CALLS CHRISTMAS, starring Morgan Kohan, Ryan-James Hatanaka, Lori Loughlin, and Daniel Lissing. The little town of Brookfield is chosen by a national magazine for a Christmas feature which brings the town together to show off collective holiday spirit. DISCIPLES IN THE MOONLIGHT, starring Todd Terry, “County Rescue” star Brett Varvel, and Josh Strychalski. A small group of believers takes up the mission to smuggle the Bible into communities where the government has replaced the original work with a less offensive version. 2024 is sure to be another heartwarming and cozy Christmas movie season with Great American Family's faith and family movies. I'm so excited to see so many of our favorite stars return to the network for their 4th annual Christmas movie event!

So many Great American Family Christmas movies are now on my must-see list, including A LITTLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS, SLEIGH BELLS AND SUGAR PLUMS, A VINTAGE CHRISTMAS, A CINDERELLA CHRISTMAS BALL, HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS, and more! I could go on and on...
