PLOT:

Storyline via Breakthrough Entertainment: Through the influence of a spirited new teacher – Miss Stacy – Anne steps up her ability at scholarship and competes for the few spaces available at a teacher’s college in Charlottetown. Her hard work and competitive nature (especially with Gilbert) pay off.

When Anne leaves for Queen’s College, Matthew and Marilla feel a sudden emptiness in their lives. Marilla’s failing eyesight and Matthew’s poor health make life more difficult on the farm and they are forced to hire a man to help out.

In Charlottetown, Anne is nearly overwhelmed by loneliness and the harsh circumstances of her urban surroundings. More than this, she feels the pressure of severe competition – especially from Gilbert Blythe. Their estranged relationship is almost repaired at the school dance but Anne misinterprets the moment and their estrangement continues.

Matthew and Marilla make the long journey to be present when Anne graduates and wins the coveted ‘Avery Prize’. They bring Anne back to Green Gables where she reunites with Diana and discusses the difficult choice she must make: to work as a teacher or continue on to University in some far off city like Halifax or Montreal.

Shortly after her return to Avonlea, Anne is devastated by the death of her kindred spirit, Matthew. That event and Marilla’s failing eyesight make her decide to teach locally rather than move away.

Just when all seems lost Anne discovers the dark cloud over her life has a silver lining in the person of Gilbert Blythe. His direct talk heals their relationship and rekindles their romance. Anne’s good feelings about this turn of events make her believe, “God’s in His heaven and all’s right with the world.”

PLOT:

Storyline via Breakthrough Entertainment: (via Lucy Maud Montgomery online)

When Anne Shirley turns thirteen, she faces complex issues with her friends, inspirational adults and Marilla and Matthew. At the same time, she begins a friendship with Gilbert Blythe that emotionally escalates to disrupt the status quo of her peaceful world. Her free-spirited nature is challenged by her perceived need to become sensible, and her journey toward this goal is fraught with confusion and more than a few unfortunate – albeit, amusing – mishaps.

Through school events and playtime after class, Anne continues to deepen her bosom friendship with Diana Barry. It almost sours when she frightens the living daylights out of Diana’s elderly Aunt Josephine. Just when all is forgiven, their friendship faces an even more profound test when Anne begins to spend more time with Gilbert.

Meanwhile, at Green Gables, Matthew’s health begins to slide. During an outing into the forest he becomes disoriented and must rely on Anne to find their way home. He implores Anne to hide the incident from Marilla. Anne struggles with her promise to Matthew but she’s not one to harbor secrets. In the end, she confesses to Marilla and wrestles with the burden of her betrayal to Matthew.

The rising tension between Anne, her girlfriends and Gilbert culminates with a daring river rescue. Gilbert saves Anne and relishes his moment as her hero. Although Anne is grateful to Gilbert, she must make a decision that breaks his heart.

"L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables: The Good Stars" is the second of three films. The third movie "L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables: Fire and Dew," is planned to premiere on YTV (in Canada) on July 1, 2017. And, we can expect to see the third movie in the U.S. on PBS in 2018!

My Thoughts...
Like many of you, I am a huge fan of the original Anne of Green Gables series starring Megan Follows, as the beloved red-head, Anne Shirley. I remember the first time I watched it, when PBS ran it in the 80's. Our family recorded it all on our new VCR and we absorbed every minute of this amazing, uplifting family story. It is a delight to see PBS bring the Anne of Green Gables Movie back to their network with this new movie, on this upcoming Thanksgiving Day!!! (2016)

If the young actress pictured above, Ella Ballentine (who portrays Anne Shirley), looks familiar to all of you Hallmark fans, then you are right! She portrayed the young girl, Karen, in the Hallmark Christmas Movie, "Baby's First Christmas." I was also honored at that time, to interview young Ella before the premiere of her Hallmark Christmas movie! You can see that Interview, HERE!
