Storyline via Hallmark: Freelance photographer Sam grew up spending summers at her family’s vacation home on Cape Cod, where she and Mike, a local boy, became inseparable friends. The untimely death of Sam’s mother brought those summers to an end for Sam, who couldn’t bear the thought of returning. Thirteen years later, they meet again when she returns to Cape Cod for her father’s Christmas Eve wedding. Their feelings for one another are still strong but their stars may not align: Sam is close to landing a staff position at a Boston newspaper and Mike is on track for a new job in London.

"Christmas Bells are Ringing," starring Emilie Ullerup, not only is a delightful film about coming home again, it is also an excellent reminder that "Chesapeake Shores" season finale airs this Sunday night! If you are not familiar with the series, Emilie Ullerup stars as one of the main sisters in the family drama, Bree O'Brien.

We have had Christmas schedule changes in the past but I'm not happy at all with the number this year.
ReplyDeleteThis is already the second time A Gift To Remember 2 has been changed.
Yeah, there have been many changes already to the Hallmark Christmas schedule. Lifetime has made a few to theirs, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if more were to come - for both networks.
DeleteLast year the changes were more frequent than ever -- and they lasted much longer into the holiday season than I'd ever seen, with changes being made into mid-December. For one long period during the holidays last year, the changes were happening every week -- literally, every week. The Danica McKellar-Brennan Elliott movie endured many changes and premiere delays.
DeleteIn other words, what we have seen so far this year is not out of the ordinary if we compare it to last year's changes, BUT I think we will see many more schedule changes between now and at least November, if not December too.
The likely reason for at least some of the changes is that a lot of movies are still filming, or still have yet to be filmed. And when those productions get going and/or they wrap up, that could instigate more changes to the schedule, as the network watches the movies and decides that Movie A would be better off premiering on such-and-such date (or on the other channel!) instead of Movie B. And then Movie B has to find a new home once Movie A bumps it out of its spot, so them Movie B ends up bumping Movie C out of a different slot, and so on.
I, personally, don't understand why things can't be decided on and set before any schedule announcements are ever made -- just to avoid confusion and hassle -- but what happens is that the schedules are announced before many of the movies have been made and before the network has had a chance to view the finished products. So all of the crazy date changes and title changes start to happen after they view the movies and decide to reassign them to different spots.
It's maddening, indeed.
I feel like Hallmark just wanted to put the announcement out after labor day, they probably had no intention of keeping the schedule, it was probably just randomly put together, then as each other network announced theirs, hallmark changes cause they see what night a particular movie is playing on another network. I was excited for thanksgiving week, but now it is all changed up, was looking forward to write before Christmas on thanksgiving, now that has changed, I probably wont watch Sense, sensibility and snowmen anyway, but it has been moved from HM to HMM, and then moved around there so much, was on wed before thanksgiving, now moved to December. This year the moves have been so much more, I truly miss the days of only 15 HM and 6 HMM movies.

DeleteI have never written before and want to be sure to first tell you that I really enjoy and appreciate your website. I recently found a list of Hallmark movies and realize that there are a number of Hallmark Christmas movies I have never seen (especially those prior to 2009 but even several after that but before 2014). In the past, it seems like the non-premiere ones that are shown are almost always fairly recent. I am wondering if you think we will have an opportunity to see older ones this year. It would be neat if they would call a weekend classic and only broadcast those prior to 2014, etc. Also, if Hallmark Channel did not even exist before the early 2000s, who broadcast these very early Hallmark movies? Did these have typical Hallmark romance themes? For example, from what I have been able to find out about the movie Special Delivery, it doesn’t seem to be a typical Hallmark movie. Also, sadly, I don’t get HMM (or UP either). Do you think Hallmark may broadcast some old HMM movies on its channel this year? I have been looking at other TV options to see if there is one in my area that would allow me to watch those two channels. Could you please provide a list of most of the channels one must have to best benefit from all of the holiday movies this Wonderful Season has to offer? Thank you and God Bless!

DeleteA lot of the Christmas themed Hallmark movies early on are probably Hallmark Hall of Fame movies that premiered before the Hallmark Channel began on local TV networks.
The movie you referred to, Special Delivery, was the name of a Lifetime movie in 2000 and it was also the title of a Fox Family movie (now known as Freeform).
I think the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will play a mix of old and new, but probably mostly new. If you want the classics, you'll most likely have to look for them on Hallmark Drama or DVD.
My cable provider is DirecTV, but I'm sure there are lots of options of who you could go with in your area to be able to receive more channels. Or, perhaps you could look into streaming services as an option.

DeleteI am wondering if you think the lack of Fall movies could be due to the cancellation of the Garage Sale Mysteries this Summer and having to fill the Garage Sale Mysteries slots with other shows? I love the Fall movies. Madelon
ReplyDeleteHello Madelon! That is such an excellent question. I'm sure it did mix things up a bit not having the GSM movies for August, however for Fall Harvest, Hallmark had two extra movies that appeared to be ready to air on TV - Love Under the Olive Tree and Country at Heart. Pulling one film might not have been as bad, but pulling two - does still seem peculiar.
DeleteWish I knew why they made this decision. It does seem quite unfair to viewers who were looking forward to these films.
Garage Sale Mysteries would have involved 4 movies in August, on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel. Fall Harvest is on the Hallmark Channel, and it does not take place in August.
DeleteIn other words, Fall Harvest is not related to the mysteries on the HMM channel at all. The only thing the loss of Garage Sale would have an impact on is the mystery line-up on the HMM channel, in that they needed to get something else into that August block.
Luckily, the Aurora Teagarden movies had been filmed far in advance and were ready to fill that void. So it's not as though Hallmark had to spend extra money to fill August with new movies on HMM.
Also, they had already planned to shoot 4 Mystery 101 movies this year, so that was not new. MatchMaker Mysteries was already planned. Crossword Mysteries was already planned. None of those series had to do with what was happening on the main Hallmark Channel with Fall Harvest.
I know that we all want to try to find reasons and answers, as we are all annoyed that the 2 Fall movies were removed from the schedule -- and some folks are thinking it must be the number of Christmas movies that ruined Fall Harvest, or the loss of Garage Sale, or that Hallmark went over budget or whatever other reason. So many theories!
The reality is that Hallmark filmed the 2 missing Fall movies, and they were seemingly wrapped up and in the can (especially "Love Under the Olive Tree," which already had an official poster). The budget had nothing to do with the 2 lost movies not airing on the channel once they were completed. Christmas had nothing to do with them not airing. Garage Sale Mysteries had nothing to do with the 2 lost Fall movies not airing. The other mysteries on HMM had nothing to do with Fall Harvest either.
The only logical explanations would be technical issues with the movies in post-production -- but that seems very unlikely for TWO movies -- OR simply that Hallmark wants to hold the movies to do something else with them later, which could mean airing one or both on the streaming app, OR it could mean just airing them on the Hallmark Channel in 2020. It could also mean letting W Network in Canada have one or both of them first.
Hallmark just has other plans for the Fall movies that don't involve airing them this year, I guess.
But don't get me wrong -- I think it was very wrong of them to advertise the movies and then pull them from the schedule. Very wrong -- false advertising, and also delving into "Bait and switch" territory.
What if someone signed up to one of the streaming services that carries Hallmark's channels, specifically to see the Fall Harvest movies that were advertised and promoted? They would have spent money to do that, to only end up with 3 movies instead of the 5 that were advertised.
And yet, this is what Hallmark did with "In the Key of Love" in July, and that's what they did with "Valentine's Again" in February 2017. They advertised the movies and then pulled them from the line-up. This latest Fall fiasco is frustrating, for sure, but it's not new, unfortunately. At this point, I won't be shocked if it happens again -- possibly with one or two of the advertised Christmas movies, and possibly in 2020.
