Christmas in July, or August?

Tonight, TCM will give us some Christmas "Spirit" with...

Christmas in July

TCM
August 25, 2014 - 8 PM est
during "Summer Under The Stars"
star featured: Dick Powell

This delightful film takes place during the summertime;
therefore, it is not actually set at Christmastime.

It simple feels like Christmas!

In Christmas in July, an unemployed dreamer, Jimmy MacDonald thinks he's won a big radio slogan contest, worth $25,000. It's just like Christmas day, when he buys gifts for family and friends, and an engagement ring for his girl, Betty. ....And, just when everything seems to be going great and Jimmy is on top of the world, he is informed it has all been a mistake!

Christmas on July is also available on DVD
.

No Dorothy or Auntie Em, but Strike up the Band, there will be 3 Christmas Movies & More during “Judy Garland Day” on TCM!

It’s “Summer Under the Stars”! During the month of August on the television network: TCM, they choose an artist for each day of the month and then they showcase some of their best movies on that day!

Monday, August 4th is "Judy Garland Day", which will include three of my favorite classic Christmas Movies: Love Finds Andy Hardy, Meet Me in St. Louis, and In the Good Ole Summertime! (please  don’t let that last title fool you – it is a Christmas Movie, too!) Actually what is most interesting and somewhat unique about Meet Me in St. Louis and In the Good Ole Summertime, is that they include all seasons, which makes them both enjoyable to watch any time or any day of the year! And, if you’re in the mood for one more holiday, then be sure to watch Easter Parade, too!

“Judy Garland Day” on TCM - Monday, August 4th:

6:00 AM - Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938)
A small-town boy tries to juggle two girlfriends at once.

8:00 AM - Girl Crazy (1943)
A womanizing playboy finds true love when he's sent to a desert college
.
10:00 AM - Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
Young love and childish fears highlight a year in the life of a turn-of-the-century family.

12:00 PM - Pirate, The (1948)
An actor poses as a notorious pirate to court a romantic Caribbean girl.

2:00 PM - Easter Parade (1948)
When his partner leaves him, a vaudeville star trains an untried performer to take her place, finding love in the process.

4:00 PM - In the Good Old Summertime (1949)
In this musical remake of The Shop Around the Corner, feuding co-workers in a small music shop do not realize they are secret romantic pen pals.

6:00 PM - Summer Stock (1950)
A farmer gets sucked into show business when a theatrical troupe invades her farm.

8:00 PM - Strike Up the Band (1940)
A high-school band sets out to win a national radio contest.

10:15 PM - Clock, The (1945)
A G.I. en route to Europe falls in love during a whirlwind two-day leave in New York City.

12:00 AM - Star Is Born, A (1954)
A falling star marries the newcomer he's helping reach the top.

3:00 AM - Thoroughbreds Don't Cry (1937)
A young jockey goes crooked to land a valuable riding job.

4:30 AM Gay Purr-ee (1962)
Animated musical in which a French country cat becomes entranced with Parisian city life.

No Dorothy, Auntie Em, or To-To. Oh My!

In spite of there being no showing of "Wizard of Oz" on this day or a dream of "Somewhere over the Rainbow"... I do hope you all will enjoy this delightful trip back in time... to Judy Garland singing endearing old-fashioned songs, neighbors sitting on porches, children playing in yards, and the days of when falling in love was something sweet and innocent.

I hope many of you will enjoy
"Judy Garland Day" on TCM!
