Step Back in Time: Hallmark Premieres "Providence Falls" Trilogy This Summer

Once again, Hallmark is traveling back in time, just as they did with classic movie favorites, such as Journey Back to Christmas, A Timeless Christmas, and A Biltmore Christmas.

Deadline broke the news today that Hallmark is bringing "Providence Falls" to the Hallmark Channel this summer as a three-part special movie event, adapted from the book series by Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets. The trilogy will star Katie Stevens (The Bold Type, Criminal), Lachlan Quarmby (Allegiance, The Watchful Eye), and Evan Roderick (Spinning Out, Aurora Teagarden).

According to Deadline, the premiere is set for Saturday, August 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Hallmark Channel, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hallmark+. The series will be part of Hallmark’s “Summer Nights” programming lineup.

The storyline:

"Set in 1844 Ireland, Providence Falls revolves around Liam O’Conner (Quarmby), a rogue and a thief, who falls in love with Cora McLeod (Stevens), a fiery but sheltered aristocrat’s daughter, who is promised in marriage to a man she barely knows. Their plan to make a new life together in America is thwarted, and the consequences of Liam and Cora’s unlikely love ripples through time, causing everyone to relive the events of the past. Now the Angels of Destiny need Liam’s help to set things right and if he doesn’t succeed, his very soul is on the line. They transport Liam to present day to help this incarnation of Cora fall in love with Finn (Roderick), the man she was destined to marry in 1844. Liam would give anything to reunite with his beloved Cora but only he retains the memories of their past together. Now a cop in Providence Falls, Oregon, Cora feels an inexplicable connection to Liam, who is introduced as her new partner. And as they tackle a big case together, Liam sees the same passion and adventurous nature in Cora that he had fallen in love with. With everyone’s lives at stake, Liam must overcome unexpected and otherworldly obstacles in his mission. Perhaps none as powerful as his own undying love for Cora."

You can read full details in the Deadline article.

Note: As I mentioned above, this movie trilogy is based on Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets’ three books, which are: Chance of a Lifetime, An Impossible Promise, and Thief of Fate. (You can read reviews of these books, by clicking on their titles.)

πŸ”Ž Our First Clue! πŸ”Ž Hallmark Mystery's April 2025 Movie Premiere Revealed (with "When Calls the Heart" Connection!)

I'm expecting Hallmark Media to soon release details on the movies premiering in April on the Hallmark Channel, and I'm hoping one of them will be a DaySpring Easter-themed movie, but we'll have to wait and see! (We've had two movies in the last two years, The Blessing Bracelet in 2023 and An Easter Bloom in 2024.)

In the meantime, Hallmark has released details on its new mystery movie premiere coming to Hallmark Mystery this April. The film is "Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: A Lesson in Murder," which initially premiered on the streaming platform Hallmark+ on October 3, 2024.

This marks the second Hallmark Mystery premiere of the year, which originally debuted on Hallmark+. (The first movie to also do this was "The Jane Mysteries: A Deadly Prescription," which premiered in January.)

Movie Details:

Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: A Lesson in Murder

Premiere Date: Thursday, April 10 at 8/7c.

Starring: Skyler Samuels, Evan Roderick and Marilu Henner

Storyline: When a student from Aurora's true crime literature class is found murdered outside the diner where she works, Aurora takes it upon herself to figure out the real culprit.

I'm trying to recall if anyone here reviewed this movie back in October. I checked the Streaming Movies Reviews page and didn't see a review there. Anyway, if any of you have seen it and would like to share a quick thought or review, please do so in comments below. (with no mystery spoilers, of course!)

The "When Calls the Heart" connection to this movie is Kavan Smith, who is pictured in a few photos above. It looks like he plays an interesting character named Ricky. Could he be the suspect???

Also, I've had several people ask me when we might see the next "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" movie installment that has already been filmed, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To the Moon and Back." Honestly, at this point, I don't know. With Eric Mabius' recent legal troubles and arrest, it might take a while before we see it. You might recall, it was years before "Garage Sale Mysteries" made its way back to Hallmark, after Lori Loughlin was indicted in the college admissions scandal, so it's hard to say what decision will be made here for "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." I think many fans are thinking this will likely be the end of this series. I'm hoping that's not the case and there can be some sort of redemption here; frankly, isn't that what "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is all about... forgiveness, reconciliation, and second chances.

On a brighter note, I hope we have some lovely Spring movies ahead. Stay tuned for more details on the April movie premieres!

πŸ”Ž Hallmark Announces: AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES: SOMETHING NEW πŸ”Ž SEE DETAILS:

Hallmark Media Press Release:

HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES
THROWS IT BACK
TO WHEN IT ALL BEGAN WITH
‘AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES:
SOMETHING NEW’
A PREQUEL TO THE POPULAR,
LONG-RUNNING
‘AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES’

Skyler Samuels Stars as Young Aurora and Evan Roderick as Young Arthur

Marilu Henner Reprises her Role as Aida Teagarden

STUDIO CITY, CA –– March 9, 2023 – Hallmark Movies & Mysteries throws it back to when the sleuthing first began with “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New,” a prequel to the network’s popular, long-running “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries” premiering later this year, it was announced today. Skyler Samuels (“The Gabby Petito Story,” “The Gifted”) will star as young Aurora, Evan Roderick (“A Tale of Two Christmases,” “Autumn in the City”) as young Arthur and Marilu Henner (“A Kismet Christmas,” “Evening Shade”) is set to reprise her role as Aida Teagarden.

“Our viewers have been waiting for more adventures with Aurora and her friends – what better way to do that than to take them back to when the young, amateur sleuth was just coming into her own?” said Emily Merlin, Development Manager, Programming, Hallmark Media. “The Aurora Teagarden franchise is a fan favorite, and we’re excited to share this new chapter with viewers.”

“Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New” is set in Aurora Teagarden’s (Samuels) post-college days when she finds herself back home in Lawrenceton. While her mother, Aida (Henner), struggles to keep her newfound real estate business, Aurora supports herself by working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, and waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally and police officer Arthur (Roderick). When Sally’s fiancΓ© doesn’t show up at their wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him. When they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom, but when it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancΓ© becomes the main suspect.

My Quick Take:

I must say this movie announcement today was quite a surprise! When I first read the press release, I could hardly believe my eyes. Did you have the same reaction? I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It sort of seemed to me that Aurora's story, for the most part, had been told. I'm rather surprised to see they are taking the Aurora Teagarden story back in time to the past. It's hard to envision anyone else portraying Aurora Teagarden than Candace Cameron Bure; however, Candace's real-life daughter, Natasha, previously portrayed a younger version of Aurora Teagarden in the last movie, Haunted By Murder. I do wonder what kind of reaction this new Aurora Teagarden movie will receive from sleuthers and Candace fans???
