Are You Watching the New Mystery Series, Blue Skies?

If you’re looking for a cozy mystery series, I’d love to recommend the UP Faith & Family original, Blue Skies!

I’ve mentioned this series before, but I recently had the chance to watch the first three episodes, and they were all quite enjoyable and family-friendly overall. That said, as with most mystery stories, there are elements of violence and murder that are definitely too intense for very young viewers, so a little discretion is wise.

Otherwise, Blue Skies carries that same comforting, small-town mystery charm you might feel from Hallmark or Great American Family.

The series stars Scarlet Hunter as Detective Jodi Larsen and Markian Tarasiuk (Mistletoe Connection, Christmas Jars) as Ryan Miller.

It’s an intriguing story that follows Jodi, a former member of the military, as she returns to her hometown and begins working at Crystal Ridge National Park as a criminal investigator.

While reconnecting with her father is a meaningful part of her homecoming, she also forms a special bond with a stray dog she names Blue, an incredibly gifted tracking dog with a natural instinct for search and rescue.

Along the way, she reconnects with Ryan, a former high school friend who now runs a local coffee shop and rock-climbing wall. He's clearly someone who shares her love for the outdoors and a bit of adventure.

Each episode presents a new mystery as we watch Jodi settle into her new role, build relationships with her park colleagues, and partner with her loyal K9 companion, who quickly becomes a favorite among the team.

It was also interesting to see an appearance from Chesapeake Shores and Mistletoe Connection actress, Jessica Sipos (seen in the picture above).

You can stream Blue Skies on UP Faith & Family or through Amazon. There are 8 episodes in the series and new episodes drop every Thursday - ending on April 9th.

And if you’ve already seen some of the episodes, too, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Happy sleuthing!

  4. So far we love it and dynamic beteeen Jodi and her dog partner. Hudson and Rex was always a favorite of ours until they decided to not hire back Hudson after his treatment and recovery from cancer.

The dog in Blue Skies (appropriately named Blue) is adorable. Love the dynamic between Jodi and her former boyfriend and Jodi and her dad. Hope those both resolve in a positive way. Also the mystery around the death of her mother should be an interesting story line.

A couple of the supporting actors on the team seem a little stiff in the delivery of their lines but I’m sure they will improve as the season progresses. I agree that the content is a little intense for the little ones in the house but so far it’s very family friendly. I know it’s probably just me and it’s done because the main character’s role is former military but I cringe the number of times “copy that” is used throughout each episode. :-)

Highly recommend this show. Great compliment to When Calls the Heart, Crossroad Springs and Mistletoe Mysteries.

So I started looking for a police show that would fill in. Lo, and Behold it's on UP Faith and Family, too. Just like Hudson and Rex. I love it!

  6. Thank you for the info Net, I never knew about this show! We do have Amazon prime and I checked but unfortunately it’s just saying I have to subscribe to UpTV, it’s not giving me the option to watch on my prime account. I’ll have to see how I can watch, because it looks very good!

    1. Paula-same here, I have Prime and will need to re-subscribe to UpFaith & Family to watch. I had a subscription previously (you add it in the prime account) but once I finished Heartland 19 a few weeks ago, I canceled it. This show looks worth adding it back though, I always trust Net's take and it's so hard to find good series!

    2. Hey LIzzy, yes I agree! So nice to find new clean series to watch. If only we had the time to watch everything, right? Lol

    3. Paula & Lizzy, Just wanted to let you know - I changed it above to just say Amazon. It is somewhat confusing, though, cause they still call it our subscriptions under Prime Video, but it's not the same as Amazon Prime.

Anyway, I thought it might be best to change it. Sure hope the series continues to be family-friendly because we've really been enjoying it too!

  7. I’ve left a few comments about the show on a previous post on here, as I’ve been watching it and enjoying it. It’s an easy watch with a mystery of the week. I like “murder in a small town” too, which I believe ended its second season

  9. Just jumping back in to say Blue Skies is SO good! I was hesitant to pay for another subscription but in my opinion, it is totally worth it! I'm going to get my husband and 19 yr old to watch with me, it's a great family friendly show that's just enough drama. I haven't noticed any of the usual "inuendos" that even supposedly clean shows have. I noticed Larry Levinson's name in the credits and I always liked his movies. Thjank you Net for telling us abou it!
