Happy weekend, friends!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade... and watch new movies?!?!?!?

Plus, keep on scrolling down for info on the all-new Hallmark Mystery Nelly Knows Mysteries, including a link to Pascale Hutton's fashion from my Sister's blog, It's a Wonderful Lifestyle!

Saturday, August 24, 2024:

Storyline: Victoria, a Christian advice columnist writing under the name Faith, begins to lose her faith after a series of life events. On her journey back to God, she finds her way back to love as well.

Premieres Saturday, August 24, 2024
at 8pm/7c. on Great American Family

Movie Review:

🌟 Finding Faith – (streamed on Great American Pure Flix)

This is an impactful story with a heavy plot that deals with marriage difficulties and infertility for Victoria (an anonymous Christian advice columnist) and her husband, Billy, who is a musician, often traveling away from home.

Victoria uses the pseudonym Faith, when giving advice to others, but she’s struggling to deal with her own life issues and finding her faith.

Actor John Schneider portrays Victoria’s father; he’s trying to cope after losing his wife of many years, while Victoria grapples with the pain of losing her mother and a painful secret from the past.

It is revealed that one character had an affair many years ago, and how grace and forgiveness have healed this person’s heart.

Throughout the film, we see the wounds and scars of these characters – and gradually we see their healing after surrendering and turning to God.

Due to the subject content, this is a movie best-suited for a mature audience. ~Net

Please note: As I mentioned above, I streamed this movie on Great American Pure Flix. Some of the content seen in the original version may be edited before it appears on Great American Family.

Sunday, August 25, 2024:

Happy 4 Months 'til Christmas!

This weekend, on Sunday, as we mark the 25th day of the month and count down the days until Christmas, many devoted Christmas movie followers here at It's a Wonderful Movie try to watch something Christmassy on this special day! If you'd like to participate, simply share which Christmas movie/show you plan to watch to Mark the 25th in comments below.

My pick for this 25th is...

A Gift Wrapped Christmas, a Lifetime Christmas movie starring Meredith Hagner and Travis Milne!

I chose this movie because it's lighthearted, cute, funny, sweet, and entertaining! Basically, I just love it! And with everything going on in the world, I needed something that made me smile and left me feeling good at the end of the day.

If you, by chance, would like to watch A Gift Wrapped Christmas this weekend or any time, there's a link to it on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHzO4iSREAs. If you've never seen this movie, I highly recommend it! A Gift Wrapped Christmas is family-friendly, and for me personally, it's the best Lifetime Christmas movie I've ever seen!

Please be sure to share your Christmas movie pick to *Mark the 25th* in comments below!

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone! If you can squeeze in the new lemon-themed movie, the mystery, or the faith-based film, I would love to hear your take on any one of them. Be sure to share your reviews in the comments below.

Please keep in mind that I have not pre-screened the new Hallmark movies.

Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith have such an easy chemistry with each other on-screen in When Calls the Heart; therefore, I'm looking forward to seeing them both take on these new roles opposite of each other in this new mystery, Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement. Their banter is always charming, and the looks they give each other are... well... beyond words!!! Their eyes talk! I'm hoping this mystery is as good as the previews look!

The lemon movie The Magic of Lemon Drops looks cute, but I hope the whole "magical" lemon drops doesn't get too weird, if you know what I mean. Otherwise, the leads in this movie, Lyndsy Fonseca and Ian Harding, just started appearing in Hallmark movies two or three years ago, and instantly, I found them both to be extremely likable; therefore, I'm hoping the combination of these two will be just as sweet.

Great American Family's Finding Faith is a deeply soul-searching and inspirational movie. If you missed it above, please be sure to read my movie review for more details.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. If you get the chance to watch something Christmassy, please share in the comments below.

Blessings to you all!

SHINING HIS LIGHT:

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
~Psalm 46:1-3

Via the Great American Pure Flix Insider, "the language in Psalm 46:1-3 is a beautiful reminder of God's love for us and His willingness to protect us through His love and care. In "Finding Faith," Victoria is able to remember that God is her refuge and strength when her fear arises during her parent's health scares. She remembers that with God, she still has hope even in times of fear.

    1. Mark, Oh my, goodness... I hope you love it as much as I do!!!

I remember the first time my family watched A Gift Wrapped Christmas, the night it premiered, actually, and we couldn't believe it was Lifetime. It feels like old Hallmark, you know.

Anyway, I want spoil anything, but I hope you fall in love with Gwen, Charlie Baker, and little Owen!!! :)

    2. Mark, A Gift Wrapped Christmas is one of the best. I have watched it hundreds of times at least. There is just something so good about it. Both of the actors just work so well together. Meredith Hagner, she is just so charming. Hallmark tried doing The Secret Gift of Christmas and it was a carbon copy of Gift Wrapped, but it pales in comparison to Gift Wrapped. The charm and charisma Meredith brings to the movie I cannot speak enough on.

Then there is little Owen, he stole the show. It is definitely the best Lifetime movie ever made, as Net said too. Snowed Inn is right behind this one.

I just love the feelings I get watching this movie and how one person comes along and can make another's life change and bring them happiness again.

I hope you watch and love it.

    3. Sabrina, You sound just like me! I've probably watched "A Gift Wrapped Christmas" 100 times, as well! It's my go-to movie that always cheers me up. Like Jane said below, it's a wonderful escape.

And, Sabrina, the way you described Meredith is truly spot on! Her quirkiness never comes off as silly; she's truly genuine and sweet.

Also, "Snowed-Inn Christmas," with Andrew Walker and Bethany Joy Lenz, is one of my Lifetime Christmas favorites, too!!! :)

    4. Net and Sabrina, I did indeed really enjoy this movie! I watched it on YouTube, which unfortunately was a pain because they kept throwing in commercial breaks mid-scenes! Anyway, like you said Sabrina, Meredith was ideal for the role! And Net, I definitely felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie from the good ol' days! Thank you for recommending this one - I am so glad I can add it to my list of favorites! (Although in all honesty, Snowed Inn Christmas is still my favorite Lifetime Christmas movie!)

    5. Mark 25, I'm sooo happy to know that you enjoyed "A Gift Wrapped Christmas," and that it made your list of favorites! As Gwen would say... "That's so great... so great!!!"

Maybe you'll enjoy it even more at Christmastime on Lifetime without those awful YT ads. I know those are pretty annoying, especially, as you said, mid-scene. With all the tech they have, you'd think they could fix that better.

Anyway, thanks for watching "A Gift Wrapped Christmas" with us!!! :)

    6. I watched Gift Wrapped last night, I had to after all the talk about it. I forgot that I love the entire cast too, Beverly Mitchell and her husband on the movie, he was Bubba Rancart in the original Aurora movies. Charlie Baker's assistant is so good too. Charlie's girlfriend, love the actress, but of course they had to make her look bad so Charlie can see Gwen. He thought he wanted someone like him, busy, driven, but he really needed someone that brought love and happiness to him and Owen.

I could watch that movie if it was hours longer and just gwen doing things for them and them hanging out. I love when he goes to her house to get the lizard, and he hangs out with her and her family. He sees more down to earth people, and how happy they are.

I also LOVE Sal. He ends up just loving Gwen, even though at first he is like don't touch the mannequins.

When Gwen and Charlie sing Silent Night, my heart just melts.

Love when her sister tries to hook her up on a date, and Gwen is so charming and funny with that guy (love that actor too). When her sister says now what about (can't think of his name) she is like who? Cause all she can think about is how to cheer up Charlie and Owen.

My heart just melts when he sees how happy one of his clients is at just a simple gift basket. But it is cause the gift basket contained things important to him and his wife. Charlie asks Gwen about it, and then he is starting to realize how special she is and how special it is to be able to make someone smile with just a simple gift basket, that was full of things that person truly loved.

I felt her and Beverly Mitchell character could have been sisters cause they were just so natural together.

I know Meredith Hagner is married to Kurt and Goldie Hawns son, and they have 2 kittle kids and I think i see sometimes how Goldie gushes over them. I think how lucky Kurt and Goldie are to have her as their daughter in law. Then I think how lucky she is to have them. I can only imagine Meredith and Goldie in a room together as a family. And her sister in law kate as well.

So many hollywood marriages do not make it, and I am always happy meredith and wyatt are still together.

Cannot believe we're just four months out from Christmas! I have never seen A Gift Wrapped Christmas...so I will be watching with you Net!

I tired to watch Nelly Knows Mysteries. Turned it after about 30 minutes. Pascale's character is like a carry over of Rosemary on her worst hysterical days. Way too silly for a mystery. I don't watch mysteries to be cute and funny. Just couldn't get into it. Pascale and Kavan deserve better scripts than this in my opinion.

    1. Joyce,

I know I am in the minority on this, but I feel every movie PH and KS do, they act just like Rosemary and Lee. The Perfect Bride movies, the other one on a beach, i forgot. I LOVE both actors, and love Rosie and Lee, but I just wish whatever movie they are in the director or whomever would not make them lee and rosemary.

I did not watch this Nelly movie mostly cause I refuse to watch new mysteries when so many are left hanging. But from the preview, the character Nelly seemed very annoying and over the top.

They work as Lee and Rosie, 100 million %. But when they are separate, they are both fantastic actors/actress. Kavan way back when he was in Growing the big one, Kavan in Irresistible Blueberry Farm, even though he is a supporting role, he is one of the best actors they have on HM. Pascale is as well, she was so wonderful in the Summer and Wedding of Dreams, My One and Only, loved her in 4th down and love. I first saw her in A Family Thanksgiving and loved her. But those 2 together, you CANNOT create what they have on WCTH and I wish they wouldn't try. The Perfect Bride movies, to me, just were so bad. They always seemed so awkward, but the writers tried making it funny. I don't know.

Whats funny is even Andrew Walker and BJL, they were so great together in Snowed Inn, but when they were in Bottled with love, they did not have the same chemistry.

One of the only duo's, to me, that can do multiple movies together and it feel different and have some of the best chemistry: Lacey and Brennan. Never ever do they feel like Jenny and Brian to me. They always have a different vibe and chemistry no matter what they are in together. I do look forward to His and Hers.

Thats just my opinion. I know WCTH is very popular and it just feels they try and piggy back off that in the movies they put PH and KS in together. But she can do more than the Rosemary over the top, and this movie from the previews looked like it was going to be annoying.

The Magic lemon drops, as much as I wanted to watch, they have Lynsey do the same movie every time. I mean how many times does she go to sleep and wake up in another life? Every single movie, the same thing. She is a great actress and rocks every time, but its just the same thing. Ugh, HM please give her something else.

      Sabrina

    2. I felt the same, I did think it had great potential, with Kaven & Pascale and I liked how quick the detective accepted the sleuth. But her character was way too hyper. Even Rosemary is more relaxed than Nelly. I finished it because I love Lee & Rosemary and it was fun seeing similar hand motions and the expressions they have. But I wouldn’t watch it again. And the killer at the end part saddened me.

  14. Review: The Magic of Lemon Drops -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Recommend? Yes -

Imho, nobody show the expression of amazement or bewilderment better than Lyndsy Fonseca. And she puts it to full use here, in this really enjoyable movie!

The plot, involving magic lemon drop, is ridiculous, but it is meant to be. What I appreciated was how they took this plot and drove home a serious message: that better life that you think you would have had if you had done things differently, might have had some unwelcome consequences, so maybe your life isn't so bad after all!

The acting in this movie is top notch throughout. Lyndsy and Ian Harding play totally believable characters (and don't they make a good-looking couple?). The supporting cast is great, and the movie itself is a wonderful mix of seriousness and humor (with some wonderful one-liners by Lyndsy). Play along with the plot and enjoy this movie!

  15. SPOILER ALERT:

The Magic of Lemon Drops was definitely family-friendly, and the acting was excellent. However, whether it was the screenplay or the directing, it definitely had some misses for me. For example, Rory walks into The Eatery for some good German food, the dad takes his order and goes off to make it, and then Lolly walks in, talks for a minute to Rory, and they both just walk out to go somewhere else. What about his food??! And then when she explores the alternate realities, her loved ones aren't anywhere near as perplexed as they should be by what she doesn't seem to know - like her dad being dead, or the restaurant being closed. And on a sillier note, when the dog "knocks her over" at the outdoor market, she pretty much has to throw herself over the cooler to fall to the ground. Despite all of that, I would still say it's one of the better Hallmark offerings these days.

  16. Nelly Knows Mystery: A Fatal Engagement Review…SPOILER AT THE BOTTOM ONLY

I had high hopes for this one because this is my favorite couple of all time!! Still is. The movie felt very rushed to me, and Nelly was a fun character as I knew she would, but thought she would be better if she were a little calmer. I know they put some Rosemary in her, but I watched some WCTH last night and she was more relaxed. Kavan was great like usual. He was his same easy going self. I still enjoy watching Pascale and Kavan together, they both had their same WCTH personalities, hand motions and expressions that I kept catching. That was fun!! It was family friendly as well. I can see this being a great show, if Nelly can get rid of some hyperness. They definitely have that perfect chemistry.

Oh, and her clothing was really cute, fresh and modest. I appreciated that.

But the ending with the killer saddened me, turning on your spouse like that. Marriage is sacred. I do wish it ended differently because of that.

Hugs to my fellow KY friend. :-) Also, I agree with you on the ending of "Nelly Knows Mystery". But, I almost threw something, at the TV, at the end of the movie. The killer was unexpected and disturbing. :-( I too, adore Kavan and Pascale. But, this movie was a one-time watch for me. I loved Pascale's outfits. She looked beautiful. However, her character got on my nerves, about half-way through the movie. And, honestly, can't the writers come up with a new angle for their new mystery series?

  19. Hi Maria, Mark25 and Sharon,

I am in full agreement with you all. I enjoyed 'The Magic of Lemon Drops' so much! Yes, you had to 'suspend reality' but honestly I did not mind because that movie brought me so much joy! Yes, there were tears as well but just as much laughter. Her eccentric aunt was a hoot. Her friend was adorable. Her parents were also good. Her little sister, got on my nerves at times, but that was realistic, speaking from experience as I am the oldest in my family. :-) And, I absolutely loved Lyndsy and Ian together. They were magic! And they looked so great on camera. They are so gorgeous. Plus, it warmed my heart, seeing Ian again because he was love interest in my favorite Christmas movie from 2023 'Ghosts of Christmas Always'.

Anyway, I did like that in all three 'alternate paths' Lolly's life was not perfect. There was both good and bad which is how real life is. And, I have to say I believe I would have jumped at the chance to see how my life would have played out if I had chosen a different path. I won't spoil it, for those who haven't seen the movie, but there is one 'alternate path' that touched me the most because someone I loved dearly left me a long time ago and I know in my heart I would jump at the chance to spend one more day with her.

I am so happy to see there were others who would recommend and enjoyed this lovely movie. I plan on adding it to my collection when it is available.

    2. Hi Net,

You are welcome! I hope you enjoy the movie when you get a chance to watch it. Oh, and I did not realize I had a couple of typos, in my post. "Ghosts of Christmas Always" came out in 2022, not 2023. And, I meant to say I am planning on adding "The Magic of Lemon Drops" to my DVD collection, when it is released.

Also, I wanted to say "A Gift Wrapped Christmas" is such a fun movie. It is also one of my favorites. It is light-hearted and sweet and the lead Meredith is perfect in her role. I want to be her friend! I, too, wish it was on DVD and I want to know why it isn't.

Finally, I am looking forward to seeing "Finding Faith" but I am on the fence about watching "Nelly". I forgot to set it up to record last weekend but I did set it up to record this coming weekend. I am having second thoughts now about it though based on the reviews.

  21. Just jumping in to add to the positive reviews for the Magic of Lemon Drops! I have to say, I was totally pleasantly surprised by this movie. And while I gravitate towards Christian and deeper themes, it was SO refreshing to watch this sweet, familiy oriented movie. And the bit of caution I had that it could be mystical or strange (I usually don't like fantasy types), I can't get over how well done it was! Honestly, it was such a good story and I really loved the actress Lyndsy Fonseca. She was new to me and I thought she was excellent! This movie really lifted me and was just what I needed! I'd re-watch, which I rarely say! ~LR

  22. I watched Nelly Knows Mysteries and it was a one time watch for me. I love the mysteries on Hallmark Mystery channel, they are my favorite to watch. But this just seemed silly to me, almost like a parody of an Aurora Teagarden movie. I have never watched When Calls The Heart, so I haven’t seen Pascale Hutton act in many films to know if this is her normal acting, but man this was difficult to watch. She was so erratic and immature and just all over the place. That behavior combined with the choice of music (which was reminiscent of Picture Perfect Mysteries with Carlos and Alexa PenaVega) just didn’t feel like the mysteries I love from Hallmark. I know that she was meant to be “nosey” but it was just over the top and comical at times.

What a powerful movie. It was a mix of rawness, authenticity, faithfulness, sadness and ultimately sheer joy. Throughout the movie, I was moved many times, shocked a couple of times, and then found myself both crying and smiling at the end. The female lead was so heartbreakingly good. Her smile just lit up a room and her sadness permeated my soul. She was fantastic! And, so was John. Knowing the backstory of what he was going through, during filming, just about broke me. I don't see how he made it through. His grief was real. And, the pathos of the final scene was poignant for Victoria really touched me because I know how she felt when she saw her sweet mama.

The scenery was soothing and breathtaking. All of the relationships were interwoven and linked. I liked how the flashbacks ended up becoming connected to the present and future. Absolutely wonderful movie! Yes, because of some of the content, I would not recommend younger kids watching it but everyone else needs to see it.

Great American has been magical this month.
