My Weekend Movie Thoughts...

Even though I've seen Mr. Manhattan, I'm looking forward to re-watching this inspiring movie Saturday night on Great American Family and hearing your reviews. I believe that once viewers see this movie and others from PureFlix (for the next six Saturdays), they will request more heartwarming, faith-based stories like these.

I'm also quite intrigued by the new Hallmark Mystery premiering Friday night, Jazz Ramsey: A K-9 Mystery, and I'm hoping to have the chance to watch it over the weekend. As I've mentioned to you all before, I just love the 90's TV Series, Little Men, in which Rachel Skarsten and Corey Sevier worked together as pre-teens/teenagers. The series ran for two seasons from 1998-1999 on the PAX TV network. I truly can't wait to see Corey and Rachel all these years later in this new mystery together!

I would love to hear your thoughts on the new movies this weekend and which ones you plan to watch.

Please Note: You can see my review of Mr. Manhattan *here*, but I haven't pre-screened the other new movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether these films are family-friendly, please share in comments below.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Blessings to you all!

SHINING HIS LIGHT:

  3. First off, I cannot believe we are in August guys, craziness! The holidays will be here before we know it. So I am so excited for these 3 new movies this weekend, I am recording all of them. On another note, I was finally able to watch “An Ice Palace Romance” and I thought it was very cute. Aside from the coworker/friend speaking about his date with another male and then then going to the event together at the end, it was a cute movie. I absolutely loved seeing Mary Long in this movie, she is in my group of favorite older women who they have play moms/aunts/grandmas etc.

  4. Jazz Ramsey: A K-9 Mysteries is based on the books called; “The Secrets of Bones: A Jazz Ramsey Mystery” by Kylie Logan. If you need a crime detection dog named Zeus, you call the best trainer in the business & that would be Jazz Ramsey (Rachel Skarsten). And if you’re Jazz, you not only train great dogs, but also mentor the next generation of curious minds – the forensics club at the Astor Academy for Girls. While running a demonstration with one of her crime sensing dog trainees, Jazz uncovers a murder victim on the deserted third floor of the school. Jazz’s demonstration soon becomes a crime scene swarming with cops. Detective Nick Kolesov (Corey Sevier), head of the major crimes' unit, a dedicated investigator, as well as Jazz’s ex-boyfriend, is assigned to investigate. Being an alumnus from the school, Nick brings Jazz into the case to utilize her expertise & her dogs to help gather evidence. Suspects begin to pile up while they investigate the death of the victim, an unpopular and overly strict teacher. But who would want this teacher dead? Jazz, with the help of Nick & her canine partner, Zeus, will stop at nothing to find the truth.

  5. We are looking forward to watching Mr. Manhattan tonight. I really like the quote you used in the top image, Net. I’ve been trying to do more of that in my own life, leaning on God more. Christie

Mr. Manhattan was a great movie! Great story of loss, finding love and returning to faith in God. Good acting all around, but the little girl stole the show! Highly recommend this movie!

Jazz Ramsey: A K-9 Mystery was in my opinion is not that great. I was expecting a "Hudson & Rex" kind of story, but the dog is hardly in the movie. I had trouble staying awake till the end.

  11. I really wanted to watch Mr Manhatten but I usually watch while on the treadmill and read the closed captions instead of audio, the closed captions weren't showing for some reason so I couldn't. I hope that gets fixed!

I did watch most of Junebug (still a little left to finish) but I am loving it! Clean, funny, heartfelt. It might be one of my favorites. --LR

    1. **UPDATE on Junebug-I finished it and still loved it, until the very last scene. It's easy to miss but I would suggest parents stop a second early. It's the end of her birthday party, and the coffee barista, who concerned me the whole movie but there was nothing until the end, it shows her dancing with a woman from Juniper's office. If I re-watch with kids, I'm going to stop when the scene begins to fad out at the very end. -LR

    2. LR, Thank you so much for catching this and giving us this update on Junebug! That is interesting that they slipped that in right at the end. I wonder how many people noticed it? Again, good catch!

    3. Well darn it! I did not watch the last scene so I missed the dancing. That was not necessary and knowing that makes me sad because it ruins what was a really nice movie. :-(

    4. Oh Joan-I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to ruin it for you. I still really liked the movie and even re-played the end to make sure I saw correctly before posting here. It's very easy to miss, it's really when they start to fade out with the credits. I was shocked they felt they had to do that at the very last second because otherwise the movie is so wholesome. Anyway, just wanted to alert for especially those with younger viewers to stop just before that scene, because it's otherwise a really family friendly film!-LR

    5. Hi LR,

Oh no! Please don't feel the need to apologize. I am glad you said something. It is good to know. Now that I have had time to ponder that scene, I am still disappointed, but it really doesn't ruin the movie for me because it was very good and clean and family friendly up to that point. Anyway, it is good to have all kinds of lovely people respond and share things about movies - good and bad. Thanks so much LR for posting.

  12. Review: Junebug -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Recommend? Yes -

I think your appreciation of this movie depends on how you approach it. If you think that the younger version of Juniper actually appears to her, and that only she can see her, then the movie borders on the supernatural, and I would not recommend it. But if you think that seeing her younger version is all in her mind - the approach I am taking - then, yes, I recommend it. I like the movie's message: think about how you were as your younger self - more carefree - and remember the things you said and did, and your life might be better if you act that way again.

Also, fantastic acting. Autumn Reeser has always been one of my favorites, and she does her usual wonderful job here. Aaron O'Connell is also good (although I think my favorite of his will always be 12 Gifts of Christmas). But the standout is the actress who plays the younger Juniper (Junebug) - she is simply fantastic with her range of emotions! So yes, I recommend this one...with the right frame of mind.

    1. Different, but had similarities to a Christmas movie I like called “If You Believe” with Ally Walker and a young Hayden Panettier. Ally is also a book editor that’s visited by a younger version of herself.

  14. I watched the new mystery, Jazz Ramsey K-9 Mystery and I am so lost, if someone can explain?
***Spoiler*** I didn’t see the ending coming because I thought he mentioned there were “dental records” to confirm the victim….? And how did those two girls look like identical twins? The teacher was creepy like in a Teaching Mrs Tingle kind of way, and I don’t know if I’m just sleep deprived but I totally don’t get it Lol

    1. Paula, I have thirty minutes left to watch tonight, so I didn't read beyond the word Spoiler, but maybe someone else can answer your question.

For anyone who answers Paula's question, please write SPOILER on your response.

      Thank you! Net

    2. Spoiler!!! The killer switched the dental records.

    3. Spoiler!!!

To add to my previous comment, the killer “lost it” after the death of family members. The killer wanted revenge on the person responsible for the family member’s deaths, so the killer came up with a revenge plan. As far as the girls looking so much alike, I guess it’s just one of those things. 🀷‍♀️

  15. My hubby and I really thought 'Junebug' was a super-sweet movie. We wanted to adopt the little girl! :-) She was seriously adorable. And, Autumn just glowed. Plus, I thought she and Aaron had great chemistry and a nice easy rapport. And, oh my, there was a lot of kissing! Her best friend since childhood was funny. All in all, a fun movie night! We would watch it again.

We haven't had a chance to watch "Mr. Manhattan" yet but we are looking forward to that movie even though it is going to be sad. We also haven't watched the new mystery movie but quite honestly, I am not sure if we will, given all of the negative reviews I have seen for it here and on IMDB. We may skip that one! The sneak peek, looked good, so I guess it is one of those movies where the only good parts are shown in the trailer.

  16. The new mystery was so boring! No chemistry between the two leads who were supposed to have history. Not believable. There were too many plot holes that I don't even want to go in to. Did not finish the movie.

We did enjoy "Mr. Manhattan'" though. The more movies they do together, the better they are. I love everything Alexa and Carlos believe in and stand for. They are pure magic together. I thought the two child actors were very good. The story line was definitely heavy but the end was uplifting. :-) I am beyond grateful Alexa and Carlos continue to make clean and faith-based movies. We certainly need it as there is so much ugliness in the world today.
