What a surprising, interesting cast choice! Daniel Lissing portrayed popular Mountie Jack Thornton on When Calls the Heart. His character sadly died in a tragic accident at the end of Season 5. Presumably, Daniel will take on a new role when he joins his WCTH alum, Lori Loughlin, in season 2 of When Hope Calls on GAC Family.
Deadline is reporting. "Lissing’s role is being kept under wraps for now."
Along with Lori Loughlin and Daniel Lissing, we will see the return of many familiar faces from the first season of When Hope Calls, including:
When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas is currently scheduled to air on GAC Family on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 8pm/7c.
I am personally delighted to see this family friendly series return to GAC Family; I'm quite curious to see what Daniel Lissing's role will be. In season one, it was precious to see Lillian with the children at the orphanage, and I'm looking forward to more of these warm and fuzzy, heartfelt stories.
What do you think of this cast news?
When Hope Calls season one (10 episodes!) can be seen on DVD and Prime Video.

This is such an interesting twist, it will definitely be interesting to see what character Daniel Lissing plays. I've seen lots of people say he will still be Jack Thornton with amnesia or something like that. I'm not sure how I would feel about that. Although I don't know if I can picture him as anyone but Mountie Jack! I also really hope that Grace and Chuck will eventually be in season 2. It won't be quite the same without them! ~ Jennifer R.
ReplyDeleteWow, what an unexpected announcement! I haven't watched When Calls the Heart, but I do know about the drama of killing off Lissing's character, and I imagine it will be so strange and difficult for fans traumatized by that to see him in any new role! How interesting.

p.s. I would love it if Lori would bring back Garage Sale Mysteries!
I’m beyond excited with this news!! I’m excited that Lori and Dan are coming back and that When Hope Calls is filming again. I can’t wait.
ReplyDeleteHe could come back in a flashback or dream sequence. There are ways around not ruining Constable Jack Thornton, but still having him come back.
ReplyDeleteConstable Jack Thornton was killed so… There’s going to be someone who looks just like Constable Thornton but isn’t? Otherwise, the character would be ruined to have him abandon his wife; Elizabeth .
Maybe Jack didn’t die but has lost all his memories? I missed the first part after he died. Did they find the body in the mudslide?
If Constable Jack Thornton is Guardian Angel Or dream sequence
Jack Thornton missing and returning because of amnesia? Sounds like a plot straight from the recent Hallmark movie "A Little Daytime Drama" with Jen Lilley and Ryan Paevey.
DeleteI'm wondering if Martin Cummins (Henry) left WCTH to be with Abigail. That last episode of Season 8 hinted at that for Henry. Maybe I'm reading into this situation.
I agree with every thing you just said, Anonymous. I cried when I read what you wrote.
DeleteThe only thing that makes sense is if he's in a flashback. And I've never seen them repeat a character.
As much as I love this actor, it makes me very sad. Why come back now? Why not before Elizabeth and her love triangle. Elizabeth did tell Nathan she was looking for Jack in him...
I hope it turns out they never found his body, just assumed he was killed and that he wandered to(lets say Brookfield) and was wounded and lost his memories....I know that could never happen, but it would make me (and others) sooo happy! I want to see him come home to Elizabeth and discover his precious son. I never did like Lucas.
And to answer your question... They never showed his body or a flashback scene of his mudslide accident.
I 100% love your scenario. And we all know if Jack came back, Elizabeth would be Nathan and Lucas who?
DeleteI agree with Abigails scenario. We all know if Jack returned. Elizabeth would be Nathan and Lucas who??
DeleteBut I don't see krakow leaving wcth
This is messed up! Daniel Lissing left WCTH by his own choice for whatever reasons. And now he's coming back to a show that is a spin off of WCTH! How can they cast him as a new character?? Especially since Lori will be returning as Abigale form WCTH! I don't know how I feel about this!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, I know exactly what you mean. One minute, I think it's kind of cool and then the next, I'm thinking - this doesn't make sense at all.
DeleteI have a feeling, since Lori and Dan are such good friends, that he may be doing this role to be supportive of her return, and it kind of takes the main spotlight off of her - a little bit. Just my thought.
Whatever the case, I bet this is going to get a lot of curious viewers to watch GAC Family... so it was absolutely brilliant on their part.
Aww! That would be so kind and sweet if he came to take the pressure of Lori.
Deletequite interesting, indeed.

This is completely crazy he is coming back for a spin-off of When Calls the Heart! As a new person?? Strange indeed. I’m super happy to know this series is coming back - thanks for letting us know! I loved it. Grace is a huge part of it though and she’s darling in it so I’ll be bummed if she doesn’t come back. I’m just seeing the announcement about Lori as well, and I am glad to see it!
ReplyDeleteNatalie, I hear ya! This was very unexpected news regarding Daniel Lissing. I'm still processing it.
DeleteAs for Grace... I agree! I'm hoping somehow, someway she'll be able to squeeze in a return visit. Maybe they already have plans but they want it to be a surprise. That's my hope! It is When Hope Calls after all! :)
Will we see a Thanksgiving Day movie on GAC Family like how people celebrate Thanksgiving?
ReplyDeleteChris, that sounds nice, but no word on that, yet. We'll have to wait and see what their programming intends to be! :)
DeleteThat is great news for GAC!
ReplyDeleteMisty
Does Lori Loughlin plays Mrs.Stanton in When Hope Calls?
ReplyDeleteChris, That's correct! Lori is reprising her role in "When Hope Calls" as Abigail Stanton.
DeleteDo you think WCTH will ever leave Hallmark to join GAC like Brian Bird did??
ReplyDeleteAbigail, That is an excellent question! Many of the same producers are already working with GAC Family, so I don't believe there would be any issue there.
DeleteMost likely, the decision to continue would be based upon the main actors interest in continuing the series and viewer interest, as well. I know many were disappointed over how this last season ended, so it should be interesting to see ratings numbers next year and the fans reaction to Season 9.
If Hallmark ever decided to end the series when it was still very popular - you never know what might happen. Anything is possible, right?!?!
I was thinking the same thing about Jack returning in flashback scenes. Maybe it has something to do with Mountie Gabriel Winslow? Or maybe Abigail's arrival in Brookfield spurs memories about Jack? I just think that this is great news for GAC Family and When Hope Calls fans.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!!! Every decision that Bill Abbott makes feels like a dream haha. I was joking when Lori was coming back that Bill might raise Jack from the dead and it seems like he may lol. I bet that maybe Jack didn't die after all and that he has just been in hiding, which now leads him to brookfield. There's no way they could make him play some other character
ReplyDeleteWow. What a twist. I was not expecting that. Daniel Lissing is a great actor but I am hoping he returns as a completely different character. Not a mountie -- maybe a rancher with long hair and a beard!
ReplyDeleteNooo! His character is way too special to switch to something else, that would really downsize the show.
DeleteContinue the red surge! ;)
This just sounds dumb to me. Why on earth is Daniel Lissing coming back? If he’s a different character that would be totally confusing because these two worlds interact. If he is the same character, I wouldn’t like that either. I have NEVER been a fan of the amnesiac syndrome. Especially when they end up going separate ways. Way to ruin things, guys!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, so glad Lori is finally back! It would be awesome if she could reunite with the Garage Sale Mysteries family! Don’t go changing the actors now!
Do you think Daniel Lissing portrayed as Jack Thornton Jr., or even Guardian Angel in When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas
ReplyDeleteDaniel Lissing’s Secret role in When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas
ReplyDelete1) Jack Thornton Jr. - from the future
2) Jack Thornton Sr. - flashbacks or amnesia
3) Guardian Angel
4) Dream Sequence
Ahh!! I love them! I didn’t know if there would be another season of When Hope Calls, but I’m super excited to see what happens next!π¬
