What a fun weekend this looks like it will be for new movie premieres! I'm personally looking forward to seeing them all... eventually!

I'm intrigued that Great American Family's new movie, Romantic Rewrite, is about an editor and a mystery writer attempting to write a romance novel together. That will surely be an interesting tale.

And Hallmark's chocolate-themed movie, Sweeter Than Chocolate, looks especially sweet; plus, it's perfect timing with Valentine's Day coming up!

For those of you who don't have Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, you'll have a chance to see one of their movies, The Presence of Love, starring Eloise Mumford, on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday at 12pm/11c. (See reviews for The Presence of Love - here.)

I love that Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is playing a Garage Sale Mystery marathon on Sunday, along with the last movie in the series, "Garage Sale Mysteries: Searched & Seized". My cable guide is currently showing a different movie title at that time, so I'm wondering if this was a recent schedule change??? I'm so glad more viewers will finally be able to see this last completed mystery in the series. I have viewed "Garage Sale Mysteries: Searched & Seized" on DVD, and you can read my review - here.

Which movie (or movies) are you looking forward to seeing this weekend?

Please note: I have not pre-screened the movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments.

Happy movie-watching!
Blessings to you all, Net

  1. Hi Net
As Cameron Mathison joined GAC family, how is the Hannah Swenson movie coming together? I thought he had an exclusive contract and bad feelings towards Hallmark.. Maybe not for mysteries?

    1. Unfortunately, Cameron Mathison does not have an exclusive contract with Great American Family. He does work for other networks.

Hopefully, this new Hannah Swensen mystery will be a good one!

  2. Very pleased to see that at least 1 mystery series that I watch will continue. I'll definitely check that out. -Maria

  3. Really liked the first Curious Caterer Mystery so have high hopes for this one - maybe even a little bit of romance thrown in?

If Sweeter Than Chocolate lives up to the abilities of the two leads then it should be good.

Seen Romantic Rewrite and I quite enjoiyed it - soime nice comedic touches.

Also seen The Happy Camper but personally found it dull.

Both the last two movies from memory were family friendly - Florence

  4. Probably too late now but airing on Tubi tonight:

    Frankie Meets Johnny:

Get ready for a heartwarming love story that’s filled with laughter and four-legged friends! Frankie Meets Jack, the Tubi original, is a must-watch rom-com directed by Andrew Lawrence and written by the talented duo of Samantha Cope and Joseph Lawrence. Fall in love with the charming connection between the human leads, whose paths are brought together by their furry best friends. This movie will steal your heart and leave a lasting impression. Don’t miss out on the adorableness, mark your calendars for Frankie Meets Jack today!

  5. Perhaps Hallmark changed their mind? My listing also shows the Fam Hist movie (again!) after the Caterer one on Sunday. On the guide it shows that I can subscribe to Movies Now if I want to see Search & Seized. I think maybe money talks. Sad. We already do pay for the Hallmark channels on cable. We’ll see if they ever decide to share S&S…

  6. Net, interestingly, my Verizon Fios cable guide is just like your cable guide and its showing a different movie airing directly after the Curious Caterer. But the FrndlyTv guide is showing the new Garage Sale Searched & Seized movie. I'm going to dvr it on both platforms and see what happens.

  9. SWEETER THAN CHOCOLATE

It’s such a shame that this was NOT family friendly. There were 2 prominent same sex couples, and 1 other couple less prominent. The prominent ones were shown for a good few minutes. I did not know this when I started watching. The couples were both sneaked in the middle so you didn’t know when you were watching in the beginning. Clearly this was the liberal agenda to normalize and have representation. I totally understand if the audiences and reviewers on this site decide not to watch this. However, I have to admit that I decided to finish it after watching a good part of it in the beginning. I fast forwarded the same sex couple parts. I really like Eloise Mumford and Dan Jeanotte. Both were both so amazing here and I loved their chemistry. Their romance development was at a great pace and I loved how it happened naturally….which doesn’t happen often in Hallmark movies. This was really beautifully written, directed and acted. It would’ve been such a gem, minus the liberal agenda. Such a shame :(

    2. I don't like the liberal agenda but so often now the best Hallmark movies have an family-unfriendly element to them.

Unfortunate that so many here miss them - I've learned to live with it as long as it doesn't take up a large part of the movie or are deliberately in your face.

Similar to CH Mom I will sometimes fast-forward.

There have been a few movies which are directly about a same-sex couple - those aredefinitely a no-go - Florence

    3. CH Mom, I'm so grateful for your review on this movie! I know it meant so much to me and others who read it before viewing. Bless you! :)

    4. Sweeter than Chocolate started out really well but I was so disappointed and stopped watching it as soon as they introduced the gay couple. No matter how good a movie is, once something as objectionable to me as same sex couples is accepted as normal, I will not support the movie. My values are more important than the entertainment aspect. I too miss the old Hallmark, it’s just so sad what the network has become.

  10. Wow. The 1 time I decide to not use my system of checking Twitter to see if I should avoid a new Hallmark movie, and I wind up with a movie with 2 guys together in it! What are the living odds of that ever happening?! (and yes, this is about the unfortunate Sweeter then Chocolate).(and also, if anyone here has read any books from Hallmark Publishing, can anyone tell me if there was ever any gays snuck in in any of their books that you can remember? I know they shut down right before they were set to publish their 1st gay book, but given that the movies can now sneak literally any gay couple in at random notice, it's making me wonder if it also happened with any of the books.) (and last question: This sad movie was based on a book of the same title, was there ever a gay couple in it?). -Maria

    1. Maria, I've never read a Hallmark Publishing book, but I checked on Goodreads and for this 'Sweeter than Chocolate' book there are some reviews that mention that there were same sex couples. I have no idea about all the other Hallmark published books, guess you'd have to read/search all the reviews on Goodreads or Amazon or somewhere.

    2. Yes, I read some of the Hallmark Publishing books and was disappointed twice. There was a cozy mystery series, the Shepherd Sisters Mysteries, and I read the first two books and enjoyed them. The third one had two men, the main character's uncles, who are married and involved in the murder mystery. I didn't even start this one, since I found this out before reading. The second time disappointment was in Dead End Detective, the first book of another mystery series, and one of the suspects was in a same-sex relationship and there was all this tension about if they should get married or not. I stopped reading halfway through. After that, I haven't read any more Hallmark Publishing books.

  11. Romantic Rewrite is cute, funny, and not having to stress over a useless gay couple showing up will always be the best part. (why should we have to accept every irrelevant minority on the planet if we could really care less if they're included in literally every movie or TV show out there?) -Maria

  13. It seems more and more Hallmark movies are all NOT family friendly. I hope GAF decides to make their own mystery series.

    1. Laura, I would love that too! And it would be perfect since many of the former Hallmark mystery ladies are on GAF now... Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Jill Wagner, and Lori Loughlin! Wouldn't that be fun if they did one together? That would be truly awesome! :)

  14. Yes, one of the better Reel One movies - the chemistry was much better than the photos looked as if it would be and it was better second time around.

  15. As I long suspected, The Way Home is officially a woke show now with featuring a gay couple in tonight's episode. 1 of these days, all these bad decisions is going to bite Hallmark and everyone who supports their agenda where it seriously hurts. If big streaming services, even Disney, can suffer the consequences of their woke decisions, then it will one day come to Hallmark. And this is not a wish, it's a prediction based on what I've seen in the past year with lots of woke shows getting axed, woke movies bombing at the box office, woke companies being exposed for their dirty deeds, and much more. Wokeness back fires eventually for everything. -Maria

  16. If my last comment sounds a bit angry like, it's because I AM angry.

I'm angry that a network that I loved throughout my teenage years chose to go down a dark path. I'm angry that it's core fandom continues to be betrayed by their bad choices reflected in their movies and now 1 TV show. And I'm angry that most who work with Hallmark don't seem to realize what the network is doing is wrong, or actually support it!

Do I hope that some miracle happens and Hallmark suddenly diverts back to it's core roots? Yes. But unfortunately at this time, I predict a grim future ahead for it if this dark path it is on continues. -Maria

    3. The only way Hallmark goes back is the fire the Wonya president. She has ruined the network. They know the viewership is down, but they continue to try and spin that they are the best. They have lost lots of loyal fans and the ones that come for the other stuff, either dont stay, dont watch all the movies, or just wanted to complain and dont even watch the network anyway. Its like if I complained about reality shows, I wont watch them anyway so why would i care what others like and why would i try to change it? They all just complained but they CLEARLY aren't HM audience anyway.

But the president continues touting herself, and some of the actors tout the network, but really is it doing that well? Many actors comment that its bringing more people to watching Hallmark but is it? The ratings are down so low now, I dont even know how they keep HMM on the air the ratings have dropped so low. But most dont investigate, they just read some of the propaganda the actors say and the network says, when in reality, they have dropped so low.

A Lifetime movie even beat the glacier park movie it was ranked ahead of HM. I laughed so hard at that. But then some had to tout that HM did so well that weekend.

I barely watch HM anymore, dont watch HMM at all. I watch The Office and yeah, thats not always PG but HM has betrayed all of the people that got them to be where they are. They dont care about us. They care more about being woke and that only goes so far.

    1. Mark 25, Good to get your take on the new Curious Caterer movie. Nice to hear it's like the other typical mysteries, but wonder what they meant by it being different. That is curious! get it???

    2. Got it! And thank you for not grilling me on my opinion of this movie! (OK, that's bad, I'll stop now...sorry!) ;)

Anyway, I read an interview Nikki and Andrew gave regarding this movie and they said that it was "more edgy...not a cozy mystery like the other Hallmark mysteries...something different to Hallmark". But I didn't find it edgier or unlike the other mysteries.

  18. Has anyone been having trouble with the "Streaming" on the Hallmark website. That's normally how I watch them and I can skip the adds. But today when I click on it it's blank. Maybe the website is having problems or they are discontinuing the service. Hope it'll be resolved soon, normally you only have three days after a film was aired.

  19. I was so upset with Sweeter than Chocolate. I was fully engaged in the movie and then the 2 different gay couples thrown in were so disturbing to me I deleted the rest. I have come to depend on this site and trust the movies listed here. I guess I now need to wait until it's been viewed by others and reviewed before I watch. 20. Curious Caterer Mysteries: Grilling Season

Good movie but the characters are changed from Books
This is a well done Hallmark mystery. The two leads are solid and writing is good. But the characters are changed too much from the books these stories are taken from. Goldy's ex-husband was an abuser. They did not have a friendly relationship in the books. It changes the reason Goldy gets involved in the mysteries. Also she had a son not a daughter. Changes feel of the story

It's bad enough that Goldy doesn't have blonde curly hair like Goldy Locks from the fairy tale but the actress is to tall and thin. Hallmark should have kept all the main characters similar for all the fans of the books

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was wondering if anyone else would bring up the changes from the book. I have read 3 of the Curious Caterer Mysteries. When I read Dying for Chocolate I had seen the movie but it was months earlier so I was confused and thought I was just having a hard time remembering a movie that I had just seen once. I read Grilling Season leading up to the movie. I watched it last night and the changes are shocking. Like you mentioned Goldy doesn't have a good relationship with her ex as he is very abusive, she has a son not a daughter, her friend Marla is a best friend that also was married to her ex. That's how they became friends and Marla is a lot older. So if you like the movies the books will shock you. I don't know which I like better but the movie was good if you aren't expecting the story from the book. I am interested to see what they do with the new Hannah Swensen movie. I enjoyed the original Murder She Baked but the last one that was rebranded as Hannah Swensen Mystery felt a little off. I miss Andrea and Bill. We will just have to wait and see. ~Laura

  22. The Curious Caterer; Grilling Season....

The film was family-friendly, but honest was kinda dark. I didn't like them really showing the killing scenes. There was too many divorced couples also, and it's odd seeing a divorced couple being friends and ok with the other being with someone else. It's a touchy subject for me since my own biological father abandoned us.
