Storyline: In The Engagement Plan, Wade (Schumacher) has a plan for everything! Wade’s plan to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla (Pollini) may be the crowning achievement of plans. With a 3-carat diamond ring in tow and reservations booked at the Waldorf for his parents, Dash and Margot, (LaRue, Nelson) and Kayla’s parents, Ed and Mama Marilyn (McGinley, Ford), Wade marvels at the absolute perfection of his engagement plan. Until his plan hits a dead end on a dirt road, a country road. Kayla changes the plan to have Wade meet at her family’s farm to help her mom and dad, whose cow is expecting a calf any day. Dressed in business best, Wade – a fish out of water – has an unexpected – and definitely an unplanned encounter with a family who is not convinced he is right for Kayla. Then Wade meets her ex-boyfriend who tries to prove it.
Premieres Saturday, September 7, 2024
at 8pm/7c. on Great American Family
Movie Review:
The Engagement Plan – This heartwarming film is family-friendly and filled with faith!
Wade, a financial analyst, thinks he has his whole life figured out according to his plan, but when he visits his girlfriend Kayla’s family at their farm, he steps out of his comfortable city shoes, and begins to learn in a deeper way the wisdom in the words from Proverbs 16:9, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.”
While Kayla’s parents aren’t sure if Wade is the right man for their daughter to marry, Wade is determined to prove them wrong.
The setting of this film on a family farm near harvest time is such a beautiful backdrop for this story. It was wonderful to see the way Kayla’s family trusted in and leaned on The Lord, in the big and simple things.
Some of the comedy is a bit silly and, perhaps, outlandish at times, but it made me laugh, so I hope it does the same for you. The faith elements to the story far outweigh any of the silly antics.
The entire cast is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing veteran actors: Eva LaRue, Judd Nelson, Faith Ford, and Ted McGinley portray Wade and Kayla’s parents. Since Faith and Ted have worked together before, on the sitcom “Hope & Faith” and the movies: “Karen Kingsbury’s The Bridge,” Part One and Two, it was plain to see their natural ease with portraying husband and wife. I was also touched by the biblical wisdom they imparted to both Kayla and Wade.
The lead actor, Jack Schumacher, who portrayed Wade, was, in my opinion, the star of the movie. Whether he was humorous or serious, his performances were excellent throughout. My favorite scene of Jack’s was a quiet moment of reflection and rejection where he talks to God as he's looking around the farm and quotes from the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want… He maketh me to lie down in green pastures… He restores my soul.” Wade freely admits at a low moment in his life he needs his soul restored.
“The Engagement Plan” is a lighthearted, uplifting, and inspiring movie ideal for all ages. I pray it encourages many to grow and flourish in their faith. ~Net

Have a great weekend, everyone! If you're still experiencing the sizzling Summr heat, I pray you can keep cool. I know some of you have had dangerous triple digits, which is rather miserable. We've had a mix here lately in the Midwest, so it's been nice to get a little taste of Fall. The air conditioner is off today, and I even had a blanket wrapped around my shoulders as I typed some of this weekend post this morning. Autumn is coming... I can feel it easing our way... slowly but surely!
Blessings on your weekend!

Big time movie weekend for me with Hallmark and GAF! -Maria
ReplyDeleteThe new Hallmark and GAF movies sound sooooo good! I will be recording both and watching at some point this weekend.
ReplyDeleteOf the reruns on UpTv, I watched “The Secret Sauce” and it was super cute! “Sweet on You” I have recorded but haven’t had a chance to watch yet though. I really enjoy Haylie Duff so I’m sure I’ll enjoy the movie as well. It’s 107 here today and the whole weekend too! Have a blessed weekend everyone 😊
~Paula
Ooh Paula, that is hot!! A good excuse to watch more of these chick flicks. 😊
DeletePaula, Yikes, 107 degrees! Stay cool, if you can! That's dangerously high. We barely reached the mid-60's today. It's the best nights here for everyone gathering around the fire-pit.
DeleteI’m recording both new movies. I haven’t decided which movie I’ll watch first. Really enjoyed reading your review of The Engagement Plan, Net. Its going to be great to see Ted and Faith together again. Trish
ReplyDeleteTrish, Thank you; I hope you enjoy watching "The Engagement Plan" when you get the chance.
DeleteBefore I leave for church, I wanted to let you know we ended up watching The Engagement Plan and enjoyed hearing all of the scripture references. Amazing job, Great American Family! The world needs more movies like this. Trish
DeleteI can’t wait to watch His and Hers. I love those two, my favorite couple besides Rosemary and Lee.
ReplyDeleteAbigail, Me too! Love their sweet chemistry! Happy watching!!! :)
DeleteBig movie time!

ReplyDeleteThis Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7pm, COZI TV, NBCUniversal Local’s national multicast network, will premiere a new one-hour Little House on the Prairie original documentary in honor of the 50th anniversary of the series debut
Loving Little House: The 50thAnniversary Celebration features the exclusive interviews with the several of the iconic show’s cast members & fans, including Melissa Gilbert, Alison Arngrim, Melissa Sue Anderson and Dean Butler. The actors will share their memories from the show’s original run, which ended in 1983, and pay tribute to fellow cast member and the show’s creator and director, the late Michael Landon.
The special will also go behind the scenes to Simi Valley, CA, where Little House was filmed, and document an April 2024 cast reunion and festival held there to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
“Little House on the Prairie is such an indelible part of recent American culture, and the characters and their experiences shaped so many people’s impressions of life on the prairies in the 1800s,” said Diane Petzke, Vice President of programming & promotion for COZI TV. “We’re privileged to share the stories and memories of those who appeared in the show, and its many passionate fans, new and old, from around the world.”
And don’t worry: if you miss the special this Saturday, COZI will re-air the documentary on Sept. 9 and Sept. 25.
We gave this a watch last night. What a trip down memory lane. Whoever gave this tip, know it was much appreciated by wife and me. Robert
DeleteAs I expected, His and Hers is definitely the best Hallmark non Christmas movie I've seen this year! (hope you were also swooning at those hidden Hallmark related Easter Eggs!). -Maria
ReplyDeleteThe Engagement Plan was as great as I anticipated. I hope we see the guy that played Wade in more GAF movies.
ReplyDeleteLoved The Engagement Plan! -Maria
ReplyDeleteIt was great seeing Faith and Ted together again. GAF should pair them again in a Christmas movie or something.
ReplyDeleteThe Engagement Plan had it all.The cast was great and it was genius casting Faith Ford and Ted McGinley in another movie together as husband and wife. The Pure Flix movies have all been so good and have all been the best movies airing on Saturday night,

ReplyDelete"The Engagement Plan" was another winner! It was funny, heartfelt and an all around lovely movie. I got a kick out of seeing Eva, Judd, Faith and Ted altogether. I absolutely adored the leading man. He reminded me so much of a young Timothy Hutton. And, yes, I am showing my age by saying that. :-) But, seriously the male lead was the best thing about the movie. He was charming and I would love to see him again on GAF.
ReplyDeleteHis and Hers Review…
ReplyDeleteThey knew what we wanted and gave it to us!!! Dana and Mark were Brian and Jenny all over again!!
First let me say family friendly, funny and had those aww moments, especially the end, but I not spoil it for you!😊
This was a treat. When I found out they were going against each other I had my doubts, but the married characters Dana and Mark made it very clear that on this case they were a team. And they were!! And I really appreciated that they both encouraged their clients to stay married if possible.
There were a lot of former movie hints as well. We had the country house with goats in Connecticut scene(All of My Heart), Dana was previously married to a Will Kemp, and the Crossword Mystery hint they did with Dana solving a crossword puzzle, writing in the name Logan. Those could not be a coincidence. So much fun.
Lacey and Brennan have this incredible chemistry whenever they are in a movie together. I loved and really enjoyed watching them again!!
Abigail, I was going to write a long review for this movie, but you said everything I was going to say and then some! This is a real winner, with the usual great chemistry between Lacey and Brennan, and I got a great kick out of the references to their earlier movies together. So enjoyable from start to finish!
DeleteAbigail,
ReplyDeleteHi my KY friend! I hope you are doing well. :-) I decided to reply, to your posting, instead of just posting my review separately. Oh my gosh! I agree with you wholeheartedly! This movie was a treat! I don't understand why several reviews, on IMDB, were not kind. My husband and I really enjoyed 'His & Hers'. We got a kick out of all of the Easter eggs, sprinkled throughout. I chuckled when I saw Lacey's background check. I liked how Brennan said 'He loved her with All of my Heart'. Including Logan as a clue in the crossword puzzle, was priceless. The references to baby goats was cool. And, yes, the ending was so sweet! We too said 'aww' out loud. I thought Lacey and Brennan looked fantastic. Time has been good to both of them. And, I too, thought they had fantastic chemistry. They work as a married couple. Very believable. I have to admit, it has been awhile since I enjoyed two new movies in one weekend. :-)
Net, do you know anything about a channel called MERIT? I have Comcast and some of the GAF movies are being shown on this channel.
ReplyDeletekitkat, I sure do! Here and there I've been sharing some of the Great American Family movies airing on the Merit Street Channel on the weekends.
DeleteMerit Street is Dr. Phil's channel and they do a mix of news shows, talk shows, etc... They usually air 4 Great American Family classic movies on the weekends, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.
I get Merit Street through DirecTV, and it is also available on the free streaming app, Merit+, which is available on iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku. Glad to hear you also get the channel on Comcast.
In an interview earlier this year with TBN, Dr. Phil shared that he wants to create uplifting and inspirational movies on his channel.
Hopefully, this means good things are to come!!! :)
Thanks Net! So happy to hear this! Blessings to you!
