My Quick Take...

If you were a fan of the reality TV series American Idol in it's early years, then you are likely to remember, as I do, Jennifer Hudson competing along with other singers for the coveted title back in 2004! Even though Jennifer came in seventh place, she continued to sing, perform, and act.

However, life in the spotlight was not always easy. In 2008, her mother, brother, and nephew were tragically murdered. I hadn't followed Jennifer's career all that closely up to that point, but I remember hearing the news on TV and my heart breaking for her and her family.

Now, all these years later, it's nice to see Jennifer Hudson release this Christmas song for the Hallmark Channel with such an uplifting message, "Let there be Joy"! The song also mentions peace on earth and shining a light, all inspiring themes for the Christmas season.

  1. Wow so Great American Family has already announced that Gladys Knight will be singing a song called “JOY” in the Little Women Christmas. So much for GAC always copying Hallmark like the trolls always say.

  2. Nice song. This is the first that we have heard Hallmark is also kicking off their "Countdown to Christmas" on October 18th, isn't it? Maybe I missed it. I knew GAF was kicking off on October 18th but don't think I saw any official start date for Hallmark until now.

  4. Well, I listened to the excerpt of the song and it is as I figured....she's a "screamer." I have a musical background and for me when a person screams it takes away from what the beauty of a song can be. I appreciate melodic singing vice screaming. Thank goodness for the mute button on my control....it will be used. I guess the best way to describe how I feel is that "screaming" a song is like fingernails on a chalkboard! Thanks for the warning Net!
