UPtv is showing four rom-com movies in their schedule for June, 2024.
Please be sure to read the reviews for the first three movies below.
May The Best Wedding Win
Premiere Date: June 2, 2024
Storyline: When Tiffany’s fiancΓ©e calls off their wedding, she is heartbroken – that her dream wedding is off! After her frenemy snaps up the bookings for her own wedding, Tiffany hires an actor to be her groom.
Movie Reviews:
π Reel One's May the Best Wedding Win is not clean (gay man and his 'lover') and is honestly really stupid and annoying. (on Peacock). -Maria
π Sadly have to agree - this movie is one big waste of time. One of the weakest ROE movies I have ever watched - Florence

The Wedding Rule
Premiere Date: June 9, 2024
Storyline: Former childhood friends are bequeathed a restaurant on one condition: they must be married to claim the inheritance. Both being single, the race is on to find the “one”.
Movie Reviews:
π "The Wedding Rule" from Reel One (Peacock streaming) – not family-friendly. Around 20 minutes in, a barista behaves like a silly middle school girl to convey his homosexual attraction to the uninterested male lead, even writing a heart and his phone number on the coffee cup. We see him fawning in a couple more scenes. Then, some language is tossed in: playing pin the tail on the donkey at a speed dating event, the two leads joke about being bad*** and jack***; later she exclaims "d*** it" when he correctly guesses a secret ingredient. There's also a scene with the male lead in nothing but a towel.
Beyond the disappointing content, the movie just didn't draw me in, hitting neither a particularly sweet nor fun note. I was game for an unrealistic plot, but the whole marry-a-stranger-in-3-weeks never even got believable traction in the script. Feels like this one should have sped straight to marry-each-other-to-save-the-restaurant-then-grow-to-realize-it's-actually-for-real as the bulk of the movie. Overall, it left me bummed about the squandered talent. Oh well! ~Alicia
π Alicia, I actually quite liked this but then I particularly like Dennis Andres although certainly it's one of those where you have to suspend belief but there wasn't enough "unfriendly" content to spoil it for me.
The scene where Max had a bare chest was nothing you wouldn't see on a beach anywhere and the towel completely covered his lower half.
Not that it would have changed your opinion of the story line but you were unfortunate to watch it on Peacock.
I saw it through UP Faith & Family and they had done a bit of editing - taken out bad language and there was no scene where the barista wrote his phone number on the coffee cup for Max - Florence
π The Wedding Rule – This movie ended up being a whole lot of fun. Sure, it is one of those somewhat predictable rom-coms, but it was still an enjoyable watch.
I do want to mention/caution, that UPtv did show the edited version of this movie that airs on their streaming service UP Faith & Family. Kudos to them for doing this! I could sort of tell some language was taken out, as I saw their mouths move with no words coming out, but that was fine with me. I do wish the movie had been wholesome to begin with, but at least UP did the editing.
I also wanted to include that there are still 2 scenes with the lead male character shirtless with only a towel around his lower body and another towel wrapped around his shoulders. Nothing tawdry or indecent occurs during these scenes; he’s basically just stepping out of the shower to answer the door. (If you’ve seen “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” then it is somewhat similar to that.)
Overall, it was a delightful 2 hour watch, and I enjoyed the edited version of this movie very much on UPtv, and if you are hoping/planning to see it, then I encourage you to catch it there.
*Extra: I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Alicia for letting us know the unedited version of this movie (streaming on Peacock) is not family-friendly, and also thank you to Florence for informing us that this movie was edited on UP Faith & Family. ~Net

A Match for the Prince
Premiere Date: June 16, 2024
Storyline: An acclaimed medieval romance novelist is hired to be a matchmaker for a real-life prince in a desperate attempt to find true love before the fixed royal wedding date.
Movie Reviews:
π Reel One's A Match for the Prince is clean. (streaming on Peacock). -Maria
π A Match for the Prince – I tried, but I just couldn’t get into this movie, as I felt zero romantic connection between the lead woman and the Prince. At times, both characters were unlikeable due to their attitudes towards each other.
I wish I could say as the story progressed it got better, but for me, it was just more of the same. Even though this film is family-friendly, it was a miss for me. ~Net
π Sadly we also did not enjoy "Match for a Prince" either. The lead actress was really good but nothing else drew us in. ~Joan

Discovering Love
Premiere Date: June 23, 2024
Storyline: An archeology professor must team up with a dig-first-ask-questions-later treasure hunter to find the long lost crown of Helen of Troy.
Movie Reviews:
π My hubby and I really 'dug' "Discovering Love" no pun intended! LOL If anyone has seen the movie you will understand. :-) The cast was wonderful. It was great seeing Cheri and Louis again. It was actually filmed on location in Greece. The setting was lovely and they threw in a few surprises. Archaeology has always fascinated me. It is important knowing where we all come from. Years ago, my husband, my son and I visited Jamestown VA where they were doing a dig. We both have ancestors who lived in Jamestown when it was founded so it was so cool to be there at that time. ~Joan
π Discovering Love – This movie was rather slow for me. It picks up a little more in the second hour, and it is family-friendly; however, there is some talk about Greek mythology, and about an hour into the movie, a stranger reads the lead girl’s palm. I fast-forwarded this part, so I’m not sure what she predicted. Overall, the movie gave me the same hum-drum feel as “For Love & Honey.” It’s a one-time watch for me. ~Net

Glad to be of service for reviewing the 1st 3 movies! (just wish the 1st 2 weren't dirty).
ReplyDeleteThat 4th movie sounds really good. -Maria
Apologies about the misspell, I only reviewed movies 1 and 3. Just got a bit excited about seeing my reviews posted. -Maria
ReplyDeleteI was expecting the first three movies to show up the main UP channel.
ReplyDeleteIt will obviously be the cleaned up version of The Wedding Rule.
I will be very interested to hear what anyone else makes of May The Best Wedding Win.
A Match For The Prince is okay for a one time watch.
I found the male lead unbelievable and credibility is stretched particularly for the ending but Paniz Zade is fine and there was a certain chemistry between them.
The interesting one here is Discovering Love - I can't find out anything about this. Nothing on IMDb, just the same short synopsis as above on UP's website, ditto for Rotten Tomatoes.
If it originally had a different name IMDb would usually have picked this up - Florence
Hi Net,
ReplyDeleteWell this is a disappointing month of movies! I am definitely going to skip the first two. I will watch the last two. Thank you Maria for sharing your reviews. I don't understand what is happening with UPTV. I thought they were supposed to be a proponent of clean, uplifting, family friendly movies?
They'll probably edit out the inappropriate stuff. And IMO, even if the 1st movie didn't have that scene where the best friend introduces his 'husband', it would still be an annoying movie. -Maria
Deletethey look interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's disappointing to see UpTV having non family-friendly movies, when they also have their UpTV Faith ones. I think I will pass on those this time and enjoy some older ones.
ReplyDeleteDiscovering Love stars Liliana Tandon and Tim Rogan.
ReplyDeleteIt is from Automatic Entertainment which seems to be a relatively new company based in Los Angeles and is described as Romance.
It will be the first movie of theirs which I will have seen.
Hopefully it will be a good watch - it is great to see a brand new movie being aired - well done UPtv.
Florence
Key art for UPtv's new June movie, "Discovering Love," has been added to the post above! ^^

Uncertain what is happening on UP on July - they're showing movies next Sunday but they've aired them all before - Florence
ReplyDeleteFlorence, Yeah, I'm not seeing anything new for UP in July, so far. I was expecting repeats or marathons for the 4th weekend, but after that, I was hoping for a return of the movies.
DeleteI have a feeling many networks will work their schedules around the Olympic games, which run Friday, July 26th – to Sunday, August 11th.
Discovering Love is fantastic!! -Maria
ReplyDeleteIt's highly unlikely that UPtv will be airing new Rom.Coms anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteThere are very few movies in this genre being released at the minute.
Nicely and Candlelight have a few (very few) but that seems to be it.
Reel One Entertainment hasn't released ANY new Rom.Coms this year and it looks like UP has no more in their cupboard.
I don't know what's going on at ROE.
I can't find anything out at all.
I ended up writing to them to find out what the position was but got no response.
Although they've added nothing to their Christmas Programme I do know they have 5 new Christmas movies coming:
Dear Christmas Hearts - Brittany Bristow & Marcus Rosner
Christmas In Alaska - Emma Johnson & Marcus Rosner
Merry Royal Christmas - Katherine Davis & Riley Melcham
Snowy With A Chance Of Christmas - Andrea Brooks & Giles Panton
A Sprinkle Of Christmas aka The Christmas Clash - Hayley Sales & Marshall Williams
Lifetime does have several ROE Christmas movies held over from last year.
Florence
Florence, I agree, that we won't probably see any new movies on UPtv anytime soon. Just so you know- I keep checking, though!
DeleteIt does seem as if the network is focusing more this Summer on classic movies on Saturdays and classic sitcom/drama marathons on Sunday. I hear those types of marathons do well in ratings.
Hopefully, the network will bring movies back this Fall. Last year UPtv stopping airing NEW movies in June and then they brought them back in October. So... maybe, they will follow the same pattern this year.
Thank you for sharing the ROE titles... I hope we'll end up seeing some of these Christmas movies this year! :)
