More than 20 years prior, life-changing events prompted Kat to move away from her small Canadian farm town of Port Haven, and she remains estranged from Del to this day. Alice has never met her grandmother and is unaware of the reasons for their fractured family. With Kat’s marriage coming to an end and having just been laid off from her job, she decides to return home after receiving an unexpected letter from Del urging her to come back. Although Alice is not thrilled, Kat and her daughter arrive at her family’s farm -- and the reunion isn’t what Kat had envisioned. As the three generations of women slowly work on finding their footing as a family, they embark on an enlightening journey none of them could have imagined as they learn how to find their way back to each other.

My movie thoughts and more...

Once again, I'm hoping this all-new Wedding Veil movie will be a good one, but we'll see.

Also, I'm hoping Great American Family's new premiere, From Chicago with Love, and UPtv's The Princess and the Bodyguard will both be cute.

Is anyone here planning on checking out the new Hallmark series, The Way Home? I've decided I'll be skipping this one; I just don't want to get involved in another series at this point, but I'm curious to hear what you all think. Also, I won't be doing weekly reminders (after this one) for The Way Home, but please feel free any time to share your thoughts on this series throughout the first season.

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is having a romantic movie marathon on Saturday with these movies: The Presence of Love, The Vows We Keep, Always Amore, and more.

Be sure to share in the comments below what you are looking forward to seeing this weekend.

Please Note: I haven't pre-screened the new movies. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments. Thank you so much to those of you who participate in this.

Disclaimer: Please know when I share a movie, this is NOT an endorsement of any of the actors involved, personally or professionally, with their other TV/film projects.

Happy movie-watching!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Blessings, Net

  1. I'm going to watch "From Chicago With Love" and "The Princess and the Bodyguard". I'm not interested in the series "The Way Home" either. I also want to wait and see reviews on the new Wedding Veil movie before I watch it. I'll record it but if it isn't family friendly then I'll delete and not bother with it.

  2. Hey Net :) I am not watching The Way Home or whatever its called. I'm not the biggest fan of time travel and with the way hallmark does things, it already seems confusing from the previews, and likely it will be more confusing, and then end and then never be brought back. Not investing in new series or new mysteries. I wont watch a new mystery til

we see hannah and mike get married

There is another mystery 101, we are owed a resolution to that series

Some of the other mysteries i didnt care for like picture perfect mysteries, ruby herring, but the fans deserve some answers.

  3. I'll also check out this new WV movie too, with the same view point I used last week. Also recording that new GAF movie.

I'll also skip The Way Home. Already have 1 Hallmark show left to worry about possibly going woke, don't need to worry about another 1. -Maria

  4. Which Movies or TV Series are you looking forward seeing this weekend?

  5. I’m glad the first veil movie was family friendly. Hope they don’t ruin the last 2. I’m not planning to watch the series either. I love Andie McDowell, but I’d rather have closer on Cedar Cove (I know that’s never going to happen, but still) than a new series that I know they’ll just end up cancelling with no closure.

  6. From Chicago With Love was filmed by Reel One in Hamilton, Ontario. The Canadian release was Lease on Love and was family friendly. Poppy is quite lively for someone who gets walked over a lot. But of course her giving spirit triumphs in the end after a comedy of lies.

  7. Looks like some promising things to watch this weekend.

  8. I don't think I can get involved in another series that they might drop without closure. Seems to be the norm for Hallmark these days. I'm not crazy about the previews of The Way Home either. I am also shocked they got Andie to do another series after they way they dropped Cedar Cove.

    1. I'm of the same opinion.

After the way they dropped Cedar Cove I have refused to get involved in any further Hallmark series.

I have no objection to dropping a programme if it isn't getting good enough viewing figures but I do believe viewers deserve the courtesy of getting an "ending" which they never made any attempt to do - Florence

    1. Thanks for the info, Maria

I've just posted in another thread that Sweeter Than Chocolate with Eloise Mumford and Dan Jeanotte is released on 04 February which is a Saturday and it isn't Hallmark and now it's not GAF so it looks like another movie going to Streaming.

Love In Aruba I wouldn't bother with as it's about a previously married single father.

Romantic Rewrite is a Reel One Entertainment movie which has been shown in Europe - this may be its first American airing.

From memory I think this is family friendly - I was a bit dubious about it at first as George Russell looked rather "old" to me but he and Kristina Cole combined well together and they were a fun couple.

Some "fake relationship" movies are unrealistic but this was well executed and I personally enjoyed this, imo well worth a watch.

I can't find out anything about A Charming Valentine so I wonder if this is a GAF oriiginal or another bought in movie under a new title?

This now only leaves UPtv to reveal its February schedule.

I'm nervously awaiting this as I rely on them to see many Reel One Entertainment movies but recently they've been showing more from other sources - Florence

    2. Florence, Just in case you (or others) don't see my previous response to your other comment, "Sweeter Than Chocolate" is airing on the Hallmark Channel on February 4th. Hope you can catch it then or soon after. It looks like it could be a fun one, plus I've always like Eloise Mumford and the chocolate theme around Valentine's day.

I have more movie details and some images in my Hallmark February movie post:
      https://itsawonderfulmovie.blogspot.com/2022/12/hallmarks-february-2023-movie-schedule.html

Thank you also for sharing the review of "Romantic Rewrite." The story grabbed me, but I was also wondering the same thing about the actor from the promo I saw. Hopefully, I'll feel different when I watch it.

Also, "A Charming Valentine" is a new title for the Reel One Entertainment movie, "The Love Subscription."

I posted on all three movies today...

Thank you, as always, for sharing with us, Florence!

    3. Apologies for the confusion, Net.

I previously read your post about Hallmark's February movies, even made a post about how much I liked Dan Jeannotte and was looking forward to seeing him and Eloise Mumford together - I can still barely remember this!

I think I'm going bananas, it must be the avalanche of Christmas movies still to watch, barely making our way through them and little time to try to watch out for the new ones, make any reviews etc.

The one caveat I have about Sweeter Than Chocolate is that I now notice there is a young girl in one of the photos - I do hope that either Dan or Eloise isn't a previously married single parent - Florence

    4. Florence, Oh, honey... I completely understand. All of these movie titles start to blur together, don't they?

As for the picture of the young girl, my guess is that the girl might be Eloise's character as a child with maybe her grandpa? Perhaps, that's where her love of making chocolate treats come from? Just a thought.

The Wedding Veil Inspiration wasn't as good as the last week's installment. Only one thing that was uncomfortable. The story developing between the back leads so to speak has an awkward moment. The girl involved kept throwing in the name "Charlotte" until the guy involved finally asks Autumn if the girl in question had a former "girlfriend" she was involved with. Answer was no, but to me said you should just accept that life style. Other than that it was clean.

    1. Joyce, thank you for this detailed info on "The Wedding Veil Inspiration." That does seem like an awkward thing to say. Very odd, especially since he's interested in her and wondering if she likes him. I'm so glad you alerted us to this.

  17. The Wedding Veil-Inspiration might have not been family friendly at one point. There is a scene where Matteo is telling Emma about his feelings for Lily, but has concerns as he has heard Lily mention someone named Charlotte. He asks Emma is Charlotte is a girlfriend or ex girlfriend. Emma laughs and clarifies that Charlotte is in fact the spider that has been invading her office. Let me know if I misunderstood this scene. I saw it only briefly.

  19. The Way Home was great. It was very Unhallmarky, but the whole plot of her traveling back in time and seeing her family from a different point of view is great!! Its a must watch for everyone on this site!!

  20. I am one that decided to watch “The Way Home” Sunday night. I had not heard any previews about the series before watching it. After watching it I decided I would not watch it anymore. It was just a very strange series. It definitely was not your typical Hallmark production. Also, after watching it I felt like that it would not be around very long. It seems that Hallmark will start a series or a murder mystery movie and you have learn to really like the series/mystery movies and really look forward to watching it. Then Hallmark decides to cancel it after the series/movies barely gets started. Most of those series/ mystery movies were family friendly and it is irritating that they would cancel them. Look how many of the mystery movies on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel has been dropped. (Martha’s Vineyard, Morning Show Mysteries, Crossword Mysteries, Murder 101, Match Maker etc.) I will admit that I did enjoy watching the new Wedding Veil trilogy. Last year‘s trilogy was better, but have still enjoyed the first two movies of this year trilogy.

    1. Chuck, First of all, great to hear from you! And... so nice to hear your thoughts on The Way Home, etc. From the way you and others describe this new series, I'm extra glad I decided to skip it.

Plus, I agree... the likelihood any series will continue is up in the air these days. I liked all of the mysteries you mentioned, plus Picture Perfect. Both Carlos & Alexa have signed with Hallmark, so why couldn't they do one more to satisfy viewers and finish it? Same with Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott with Crossword Mysteries. And of course, we've all heard Jill Wagner and Kristopher Polaha would like to finish Mystery 101, but for some odd reason Hallmark won't green-light it.

Anyway, thank you, again for your review of this new show + the previous Wedding Veil movies.

  21. The Wedding Veil Inspiration... SPOILERS!!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny, sweet and heartfelt! I said this before, but I love seeing the three friends being there for each other. I loved the baby news( I can see her having a girl) and wonder if Tracey will have the same thing. Great acting too!

I also appreciated her husband taking over the responsibility of the business for his family. That would be a tough situation for a husband to be in. I loved that she follows as well. What's that verse in Ruth....Where you go, I go. Your people shall be my people and your God my God.

And I loved Autumn's outfits! They were so cute on her. (Minus the off the shoulder one... I thought it was funny that she was wearing an off the shoulder blouse but was cold, so she tried to warm herself up with a lap blanket. But it wasn't working because her shoulders were still exposed.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The only thing was the mention "Charlotte." We know there was no same sex issues going on. It was a spider. However, I didn't see the need for them to bring it up. Thankfully it was VERY short (and I kinda missed it because my younger brother was playing the piano during that scene.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'm glad I watched it look forward to the next one!

And that veil is sooooooo beautiful!! I would buy the reproduction if I could afford it and if I was getting married. ;)

  22. FROM CHICAGO WITH LOVE
Family friendly, I think, although if you are watching with young kiddos, the female lead was moving in together with her fiance before they got married, which could be a questionable value for some.  Anyways... some of you know I don't like love triangle romance tropes. I do love both female and male lead. Happy to see Dan Jeannotte again :) I'm not a fan of how the story unfolded and just the whole storyline generally. Too many things going on with the obnoxious and ridiculous influencer and Poppy's career life, plus the fake/real fiance, and the whole wedding planner thing which was taking it way too far and too unrealistic to me. I do love the chemistry and enjoy it when Poppy and Milo are connecting, but to me it's hard to feel good about their fake romance development while Poppy was also still engaged, no matter how indifferent her fiance was. Also, I couldn't stand that influencer lady. So dramatic and manipulative, and then all of a sudden she came to game night?! This is a one time watch for me, but I do hope we will see Dan Jeannotte and Rebecca Liddiard again in another movie.

    THE WEDDING VEIL EXPECTATIONS
Family friendly. I found myself dragging through this movie. Yes it is a great series, but somehow I kept trying to watch it a few times and not finishing this one. I did finally finish it but I guess just not too interested in the storyline in general. I can definitely see that others would enjoy it more than I did. There was nothing specifically wrong about it, I couldn't even pinpoint it I guess.  It would be a one time watch for me and I kinda just watched it to watch the whole series.

    THE WEDDING VEIL INSPIRATION
I really, really enjoyed this one. Out of all 3 Wedding Veil couples, Emma and Paolo is my favorite. They are just really fun to watch and made me smile whenever they are together.  Personally, this Inspiration movie is also more enjoyable to me than the Expectation one. The story had some real marriage conflicts, and I didn't know how it would end. That Facetime romantic dinner was soooo cute.  I also loved the romance development between Emma's TA (Lily) and Matteo. Although there was a little insinuation when Matteo asked Emma if Lily had a girlfriend, so maybe not super family friendly for some. Hallmark just HAD to sneak one in, huh!

  23. Hi, Net! I did watch The Way Home, and I will not be investing any more time and here's why. Very strange premise about time traveling (not a fan but if done right, could be good), and I don't think this was done right. It was extraordinarily unrealistic and just silly in my opinion. The teenage girl had several scenes in which she was horribly disrespectful to her mother, who just let it go because of their circumstances. I could not connect with anyone in the cast except for Andie McDowell, who I thought was great as the matriarch. Unfortunately, even with Andie, I won't continue to watch, as it is in my opinion, nonsensical. There could have been so many other ways for this teen girl to discover her mother's past and connect with her besides some kind of pond that enables time travel. I was looking forward to another family drama, but this one is not for me. Thanks, Net and Happy 2023!!

    1. Savvy Girl, I appreciate you sharing these details on The Way Home with us. That does sound rather strange - the way the time travel process takes place through the pond.

I wonder if the show will have a big following??? I have a feeling there will be those who love it and those who hate it and very few in between.

  24. I watched The Way Home, but grew uneasy during the first scene. It was the 1800s and men were chasing a woman through the woods. I heard them call her a witch at least once. I immediately thought of the Salem Witch Trials. There was a weird mysterious vibe through the whole episode.

  26. I personally liked the first episode of The Way Home. Enough to give it a chance. It is unlike any other Hallmark series and makes sense it comes from the same team that does Heartland. While it is completely different than that show, too, it does have a similar type vibe of family and being out of each other's lives and then coming together again. I'm very curious how the time travel will play out, but it is a unique angle for the teenager to understand what happened with her mom, grandma and family in the past. Families aren't perfect and seeing how they are dealing with estrangement, death, divorce and teenage emotions is refreshing.
