🌟 New Year's Eve Specials... 🌟

Of course, there are all sorts of New Year's Eve TV Specials to welcome in the New Year - on your local and cable news channels. (Please note: Some of the entertainment options aren't exactly family-friendly, so you'll want to be careful in choosing which channel to watch.) My family and I typically play games, watch Christmas movies, and near midnight, we flip through the channels and watch a little of the New Year's Eve coverage until the Times Square ball drops. Then, we welcome in and pray over the New Year together! Our celebration isn't anything fancy, but we simply enjoy this special, meaningful time with one another. I hope your New Year's Eve is just as delightful. Please share your plans for New Year's Eve or thoughts for 2023 in comments below.

Please Note: I have not pre-screened the new Hallmark movie. If you'd like to post a review on whether this film is family-friendly, please share in comments. As always, thank you so much to those of you who participate in sharing reviews. This is the first movie of many to come!

🌟 Happy New Year, Everyone!!! πŸŒŸ

I can't wait to share with You All again in 2023!

Sweeter Than Chocolate

Starring: Eloise Mumford, Dan Jeannotte and Brenda Strong

Premieres: Saturday, February 4, 2023

A local bakery is rumored to have the secret recipe to finding true love on Feb. 14, drawing in a TV reporter to investigate.

Movie Reviews:

πŸ’• SWEETER THAN CHOCOLATE It’s such a shame that this was NOT family friendly. There were 2 prominent same sex couples, and 1 other couple less prominent. The prominent ones were shown for a good few minutes. I did not know this when I started watching. The couples were both sneaked in the middle so you didn’t know when you were watching in the beginning. Clearly this was the liberal agenda to normalize and have representation. I totally understand if the audiences and reviewers on this site decide not to watch this. However, I have to admit that I decided to finish it after watching a good part of it in the beginning. I fast forwarded the same sex couple parts. I really like Eloise Mumford and Dan Jeanotte. Both were both so amazing here and I loved their chemistry. Their romance development was at a great pace and I loved how it happened naturally….which doesn’t happen often in Hallmark movies. This was really beautifully written, directed and acted. It would’ve been such a gem, minus the liberal agenda. Such a shame :( ~CH Mom

πŸ’• Sweeter Than Chocolate is Not family friendly!! I was watching it last night because we like Dan Jeannotte. Everything was going along fine until the main characters started interviewing the couples from the Wall of Love. The second couple interviewed was a gay couple that kissed. I immediately switched to another channel, stopped recording it and deleted what had been recorded. That may be fine for some people to watch but it is not in my household. –Namegirl

πŸ’• Sweeter than Chocolate is not family friendly. They interview a gay couple from the "wall of love" ~Anonymous

πŸ’• Wow. The 1 time I decide to not use my system of checking Twitter to see if I should avoid a new Hallmark movie, and I wind up with a movie with 2 guys together in it! What are the living odds of that ever happening?! (and yes, this is about the unfortunate Sweeter then Chocolate).(and also, if anyone here has read any books from Hallmark Publishing, can anyone tell me if there was ever any gays snuck in in any of their books that you can remember? I know they shut down right before they were set to publish their 1st gay book, but given that the movies can now sneak literally any gay couple in at random notice, it's making me wonder if it also happened with any of the books.) (and last question: This sad movie was based on a book of the same title, was there ever a gay couple in it?). –Maria

πŸ’• I was so upset with Sweeter than Chocolate. I was fully engaged in the movie and then the 2 different gay couples thrown in were so disturbing to me I deleted the rest. I have come to depend on this site and trust the movies listed here. I guess I now need to wait until it's been viewed by others and reviewed before I watch. I have a sensitive spirit and really hate viewing anything so worldly. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• Sweeter than Chocolate was great up to the point in restaurant when the guy said this is where I proposed....sitting there with his male companion. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• Sweeter than Chocolate started out really well but I was so disappointed and stopped watching it as soon as they introduced the gay couple. No matter how good a movie is, once something as objectionable to me as same sex couples is accepted as normal, I will not support the movie. My values are more important than the entertainment aspect. I too miss the old Hallmark, it’s just so sad what the network has become. ~Anonymous

A Paris Proposal

Starring: Alexa PenaVega and Nicholas Bishop

Premieres: Saturday, February 11, 2023

Anna (PenaVega) is an account manager for a New York City advertising agency who has the opportunity to land the biggest client of her career -- Durand Diamonds. Much to her chagrin, her boss dispatches her and her colleague Sebastian (Bishop) to the City of Lights to make the pitch and seal the deal. Anna’s by-the-books work style clashes with Sebastian's looser approach and over-the-top ideas that dazzle the client but exceed budget realities that land them in hot water. When they arrive in Paris to meet with the client, a misunderstanding leads the Durands to believe Anna and Sebastian are married, making them excited about the prospect of having real-life couple in charge of the creative vision for their brand and forcing them to try to keep up appearances.

Movie Review:

πŸ’• A Paris Proposal is family friendly about Anna @ Sebastian travel to Paris to land an ad account, but sums up in a tricky situation when the client mistakes then for a happy couple. Follows Anna & Sebastian, work colleagues who are mistakenly believed to be a couple by a client & now they must keep up appearances to not disappoint their biggest client. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• "A Paris Proposal" -- This was my Valentine's Day watch, happily family-friendly. Those weary of "fake-a-relationship" storylines will not like this, but I really enjoyed the movie, mostly because of the back and forth between the leads, and seeing them get to know, appreciate and, then, love each other. Content-wise, they do share a suite—her on the bed, him on the couch—not handled awkwardly. He exits the bathroom once in a towel. All that I was fine with. What briefly made my eyes big is a scene where's she's wrapped in a towel in the bathroom and very intentionally unwraps her towel, leaving us seeing bare skin in a very weird, albeit technically decent way. The discomfort I felt distracted me enough that I didn't realize until later that the director only intended to demonstrate how she was relaxing her "put-togetherness" by dropping and leaving a towel on the floor. πŸ˜… Hope you all had a lovely day! ~Alicia

πŸ’• I loved a "Paris Proposal". I thought it was a cute movie. They had nice chemistry and the scenery was lovely. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• It’s family friendly!!! The client is mistaken Anna & Sebastian as a happy couple but that tricky simulation to be a couple is too typical. Anna & Sebastian travel to Paris to land an ad account, but soon wind up in a tricky situation when the client mistakes them for a happy couple. When Sebastian proposes to Anna to ask her to marry him? ~Anonymous

πŸ’• A Paris Proposal – First, I really like Alexa PenaVega and her stance on her Christian faith, and I always adore when she and her husband, Carlos, act together, but when she (or he) is paired with someone else, I tend to feel uneasy. And, yeah, I felt the same, sometimes, with A Paris Proposal. The story, itself, was captivating, as the two co-workers, who don’t like each other, are paired together for an advertising job for a diamond company in Paris. Due to a miscommunication, the company execs believe Anna Bowman (Alexa PenaVega) and her business partner, Sebastian Laurent (Nicholas Bishop), are married. They don’t correct the mistake and begin lying to their client and eventually, Sebastian’s family, as well. As the two spend more time together, an attraction develops. Is it simply Paris or true love? Overall, this is an entertaining movie with a lot of heart and emotion. Some may not like all the deceiving these characters do to cover up their lie. I understand that. At several points in the film Anna and Sebastian are conflicted with their choice to pretend they are a couple. Also, the towel scene that Alicia mentions in her review, I totally agree, it is a bit unnerving, at first, until you realize that she’s just copying Sebastian’s carefree spirit of leaving the towel on the bathroom floor. I was so glad Alicia had warned us ahead of time on that. It really helped to alleviate my shock. The City of Paris is, of course, a beautiful setting for the film and after some difficult conflict near the end that almost seems insurmountable; there is a lovely happy ending for this Hallmark Loveuary film. ~Net

Welcome to Valentine

Also known as: Valentine, Nebraska

Starring: Kathryn Davis and Markian Tarasiuk

Premieres: Saturday, February 18, 2023

It’s a week away from Valentine’s Day and Olivia (Davis) loses both her boyfriend and her job in the same week. Her sister Vanessa, who still lives in their hometown in Nebraska, convinces Olivia to come back home for an extended trip and help get her back on her feet. Olivia's roommate in New York has a friend, George (Tarasiuk), who's driving out to Los Angeles and agrees to take Olivia to her destination -- which is exactly halfway between New York and California -- in exchange for a free night's stay in her hometown. Olivia, low on cash after her layoff, agrees to take turns driving so he can get to Los Angeles in less than five days. The two strangers set out on the open road, both on their way to being who they think they're supposed to be. When George's car breaks down mere miles from Olivia's hometown, he has to stay a few more days in Valentine, Nebraska with Olivia and her sister. After spending so much time together, the two realize that their priorities might have changed, and love is what truly matters.

Movie Reviews:

πŸ’• Watched Welcome to Valentine--boring. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• Welcome to Valentine is family friendly about after Olivia is losing her apartment & her job right before Valentine’s Day when Olivia meets George, who takes her on a cross-country road trip that has them reevaluating life’s priorities ~Anonymous

πŸ’• I lost interest in "Welcome to Valentine" quickly so I was unable to finish it. ~Anonymous

πŸ’• "Welcome to Valentine" -- family-friendly but just didn't charm me. The way the characters went back and forth between bickering and then somehow liking each other just felt unrealistic and immature. Not a rewatch for me. ~Alicia

πŸ’• Welcome to Valentine – For me, this was an okay movie; it’s kind of cute and definitely, family-friendly. When Olivia loses her job and apartment, her best friend Tess talks her into driving across the country with her cousin, George. Even though Olivia and George disagree a lot, I could still sense a growing attraction between them as the miles brought them closer to their destination. It was great to see how warm and welcoming Olivia’s family was, and I thought her young nephew was really sweet. Overall, this is not my all-time favorite or anything, but it’s still a nice, lighthearted watch, especially around Valentine’s Day. ~Net

Made for Each Other

Starring: Alexandra Turshen, Matt Cohen, Aaron O'Connell and Illeana Douglas

Premieres: Saturday, February 25, 2023

A sculptor (Turshen) uses magic to mold her ideal man (O’Connell) into reality but begins to fall for her real-life friend (Cohen) and embraces the flaws that make love perfectly imperfect.

Movie Reviews:

πŸ’• From what I heard, Made for Each Other is gay-free, but it sounded like a very cringy movie. –Maria

πŸ’• Hi all, Yes, Made for each Other is gay-free, and 'kind of silly' but actually it is quite funny and sweet. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and my husband and I laughed out loud several times. It was a cute movie. :-) I haven't seen any of the other movies yet but I will comment after I watch them. ~Joan

πŸ’• Made for Each Other is family friendly about a sculptor named Rachel uses magic to mold her ideal man named Clay until reality, but soon begins to fall for a human friend named David while embracing the flaws that make love perfectly imperfect ~Anonymous

πŸ’• "Made for Each Other" -- as others noted, it's family-friendly (only thing for some might be a shirtless character). This one definitely amused me and I'll probably watch again sometime. It was the perfect role for Aaron O'Connell's wide-eyed enthusiastic obliviousness, haha, and I enjoyed everyone else's characters as well. It wasn't all just silliness, though; I appreciated the message that notions of perfection aren't healthy or ideal and being challenged by people who love you is a good thing. ~Alicia

On a mission to clear her name, Goldy teams up once again with detective Tom Schultz (Walker) to figure out who was behind this mysterious explosion. As they weed through manipulative party guests, heated gossip, and dark secrets, the suspect list grows with familiar names, ranging from business partners to ex-spouses. Goldy and Tom realize that the murderer might be closer to them than they initially imagined.

Movie Reviews:

πŸ”Ž Grilling Season was okay. The way Nikki and Andrew were promoting this as a different kind of Hallmark mystery movie, I was intrigued and expected something more. But it seemed the same as all of others. ~Mark 25

πŸ”Ž Curious Caterer Mysteries: Grilling Season Good movie but the characters are changed from Books This is a well done Hallmark mystery. The two leads are solid and writing is good. But the characters are changed too much from the books these stories are taken from. Goldy's ex-husband was an abuser. They did not have a friendly relationship in the books. It changes the reason Goldy gets involved in the mysteries. Also she had a son not a daughter. Changes feel of the story It's bad enough that Goldy doesn't have blonde curly hair like Goldy Locks from the fairy tale but the actress is to tall and thin. Hallmark should have kept all the main characters similar for all the fans of the books ~Anonymous

πŸ”Ž Curious Caterer Mysteries: Grilling Season is family friendly about Caterer Goldy Berry reunites with Detective Ton Schultz to investigate the murder of a realtor. (Review may contain spoilers) as they uncover personal & professional rivalries, they soon realize the culprit is closer than expected. Professional caterer Goldy Berry throws a lavish barbecue event for her childhood friend, acclaimed realtor Susie Craig. Later that night, she is shocked to discover that after the event concluded, Susie's grill exploded & killed her. Goldy and Tom realize that the murderer might be closer to them than they initially imagined. ~Anonymous

πŸ”Ž The Curious Caterer; Grilling Season.... The film was family-friendly, but honest was kinda dark. I didn't like them really showing the killing scenes. There was too many divorced couples also, and it's odd seeing a divorced couple being friends and ok with the other being with someone else. It's a touchy subject for me since my own biological father abandoned us. ~Abigail

Naima (Lewis) has recently moved to Nashville, where she is getting her doctorate while interning as a curator at a well-known Nashville museum. The tales her late grandmother shared about the old days in Music City during the 1950s provided a fascination that led music enthusiast Naima back to her grandmother's old haunts. As she begins her work at the museum, Naima meets Damian (Hall), a volunteer… or so she thinks. Damian is actually the heir to the Berryhall Records empire, run by his father Franklin Berryhall (Shaw), but he is struggling to step out from under his father’s shadow of success. The two begin to get close, bonding over their love for music and their desire to leave their respective marks on the world.

Movie Review:

🎀 A Nashville Legacy is family friendly about when Naima meets Damian after she moves to Nashville to uncover secrets about undiscovered music group, they begin sharing their love for music & their desire to leave their respective marks on the world ~Anonymous

🎀 'A Nashville Legacy' is family friendly. ~Anonymous

🎀 "A Nashville Legacy" -- family-friendly and a really nice story. It had a good flow and I enjoyed the musical and family history aspects. ~Alicia

Lori Loughlin Shares Details on NEW Great American Family TV Movie Coming in 2023...

Lori Loughlin recently made a video announcement about her new movie, Fall Into Winter, which will be premiering on Great American Family in the new year... on Saturday, January 28, 2023!

See Lori's video here:
(depending on your connection speed - it may take a few seconds to load)

Fall Into Winter tells the story of a woman named Keely, portrayed by Lori Loughlin, who is aghast when her brother sells his half of their family-owned, upscale candy shop to his best friend from high school (and her nemesis, Brooks) forcing a sudden urgency to find connection and common ground. Keely has been hurt before; change is her new nemesis. Brooks’ past is a mirror of Keely’s. He, too, has a fortress around his heart. Fate brings the pair together. Might it also offer new beginnings?

Lori's first return to television, after her legal issues were resolved, was on the Great American Family Christmas episodes of the series When Hope Calls during the 2021 holiday season. She portrayed her beloved When Calls the Heart character, Abigail Stanton.

Not only will we be able to see Lori on Great American Family in January 2023... but we will also be able to see her on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries again! Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will be airing a marathon of the Garage Sale Mysteries movies on January 8th! Now, these are all movies that have aired on the channel before, but this is a major deal since Lori's movies have not aired on Hallmark since she was let go from the network back in March 2019. During the summer of 2022, Hallmark's streaming service started airing the mysteries again, but this will be the first time the Garage Sale Mysteries series has returned to TV. I do wonder, at some point, if there are any plans to air the last movie that was filmed, Garage Sale Mystery: Search and Seized, which was released on DVD, but never aired on TV. We'll have to keep a lookout for that one. (In case you're curious, I have a review of Lori's last Garage Sale Mystery movie - here)

January 8th on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries:

GARAGE SALE MYSTERIES: ALL THAT GLITTERS - 11 AM
GARAGE SALE MYSTERIES: THE DEADLY ROOM - 1 PM
GARAGE SALE MYSTERIES: THE WEDDING DRESS - 3 PM
GARAGE SALE MYSTERIES: GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT - 5 PM

January 28th on Great American Family:

FALL INTO WINTER - 8 PM
