π"Wow. My grown up Christmas wish is not only family friendly but deals with a realistic treatment of sacrifice and commitment. Add this one to the military favorites list." ~JoCo
π"My Grownup Christmas List is family friendly is about a journalist & a military officer. A journalist named Taylor Nicols is ahead to her Grandpa’s Christmas Store. Taylor Nicolas’ Grandoa Frank Tubir’s owns the Christmas Store. I notice Taylor’s real name is Taylor Wynona Nicols whose goes the name Taylor. Taylor meets Captain Luke Malone who served in the military. US Army Infantry. Luke receives a letter when he’s in charge in Winter Mountain Training over a half a dozen countries in Eastern Europe. They’re spending more time together in a year in military for Luke & where’s Taylor works over years or apart over the course of several Christmases as they share a Special bond in between them. Taylor & Luke have a Christmas Wedding. Captain Adam Kearney is a Best Man & Bonnie is Maid of Honor. Captain Adam Kearney & Captain Luke Malone dress in Military Uniforms & Taylor is a Christmas Bride in Wedding gown. The Christmas movie My Grownup Christmas List is so beautiful Christmas movie that inspired a Christmas song as the same name sung by Amy Grant, Kelly Clarkson, or Michael Babel." ~Anonymous
π"My Grown-up Christmas List. Mild spoilers ahead. If you can ignore all the many military faux pas, then this is definitely a family-friendly, cute movie with Christmas warm fuzzies. I loooove Kevin McGarry and I was valiantly trying to ignore all the military missteps and generally enjoying the movie.... until.... Hallmark had to go and throw in a little civilian excursion to a remote, secret, snowed-in, military training base in Eastern Europe (the whole scene was pointless and not necessary for the movie -- hi honey, I just thought I'd pop over and visit since I miss you so much and wanted to kiss you while you're on your dangerous military mission -- eye roll). Seriously, Hallmark?!? That totally blew it for me, I couldn't ignore that bit of silliness like I could ignore all the other stuff. It's like they don't even TRY to inject a semblance of some reality. Cute movie but not worth saving on my dvr, not even for cutie-patootie Kevin. ;) If you're able to ignore the military stuff, then this would be a sweet Christmas movie to watch." ~~Jane
π"My Grown-Up Christmas List - Family-friendly? Yes - Keeper? Not for me - I appreciate the uniqueness of this movie, showing a relationship over a period of a few years. But, therein lies the problem. Maybe it's because they had to cram so much into a 90-minute time frame, but it seemed like no sooner did they meet that they were expressing their love for one another. We never see them really getting to know each other and seeing their relationship blossom. And I found it jarring how the two of them are out at night, then a commercial break, then suddenly they're at his house where she's meeting his parents. I don't know, it makes me wonder if there was a lot left on the cutting room floor that didn't make it because of the time constraints. And like Jane said, the whole idea of her going to visit him while he is on a dangerous mission (with his dad's help!) is really far-fetched. One more thing - calling this movie "My Grown-Up Christmas List" after the song is stretching it. This movie has little to do with the lyrics of the song. I was really hoping for a greater tie-in to the song and didn't get it." ~Mark 25
π"Yes, there was no arch of swords, but there was a lot of hair on Kevin McGarry which was not a regulation length haircut. At the wedding Luke's awards crooked on his uniform jacket. All-in-all I liked it. Poor Kayla must have been freezing in that wedding dress!" ~Namegirl
π" "My Grown-Up Christmas List" – I enjoyed this family-friendly Christmas in July movie; however, like others mentioned, I thought the relationship was quickly rushed in the intro. It really could’ve used one of those filler segments where you see a couple enjoying one another’s company over a longer course of time. Also, the military portion at the end might not have been overly realistic. I agree. However, I liked how Taylor was willing to go to the ends of the earth (figuratively speaking) to be with Luke. It was nice to see how Taylor was supportive of Luke and his military service. No matter the distance, Taylor wanted to wait for Luke and plan their future together. Seeing the day-to-day service and sacrifice of those in the military and those who wait for them back home was extremely touching. The movie was filled with gorgeous snowy scenes and Kevin McGarry in a Santa suit and military uniform. "My Grown-Up Christmas List" is a movie I look forward to re-watching this Christmas season and beyond!" ~Net

π "Christmas in Toyland is family friendly. π "Christmas in Toyland - Family-friendly? Yes - Keeper? Unfortunately No - I really wanted to like this movie! It has toys (yay!), a decent plot, and Vanessa Lengies, who I really enjoyed in Heart of the Holidays. And yes, the movie is family-friendly and cute. So why is it not a keeper for me? I can't get past the storyline and Vanessa's annoying character... If you need a summary of the plot, Anonymous gives a nice one above. Now, given the circumstances, wouldn't you think that she would show up at this store and say something like, "I'm here to see why your store is the one successful store in our chain, because we need to pass on the reasons to the other stores and hope for their success, otherwise, Corporate is going to close all of the stores, including yours?" That would have had him jumping to help her right from the start. But no, she just says she's there to see why his store is successful, nothing more. Of course being the Christmas season, he tells her he doesn't have the time, and she's surprised in his lack of interest. But she tells him the truth later on. Second - and this one really gets me - she seems to have no idea on how to find out why his store is successful. She arrives and wants to look at his books (which, being the data analyst, wouldn't she already have had this information in her office??). It doesn't seem to cross her mind to observe the store in action! And then, about two-thirds into the movie, her friend and co-worker tells her that she should "focus on what he does differently". She replies, "You're right!" I'm sorry, but this character just doesn't come across as the sharpest pencil in the case. Third, she mentions to her boss about this store being a flagship store. Her boss seems shocked and then pleasantly surprised by this idea. Wait, the boss never thought about having a flagship store before? And I don't think they know what having a flagship store means, because even though they decide to have one, they are still going ahead and closing most of their other stores. No, you give the stores a chance to replicate the flagship store. And then of course, what a great idea to have the flagship store in kid-friendly Las Vegas! So much doesn't make sense! And finally, I was getting tired of her puzzlement and her denial and her giggles over liking this guy. She seemed very immature. And both of the main characters came across as stiff. Okay, maybe with so many great Hallmark movies in past years I'm getting overly picky, but in my book Hallmark is 0 for 3 in their Christmas movies this season. As many of us have said before, it's time to put quality over quantity!" ~Mark 25
π "Totally agree with Mark 25. For me, this movie was a cute one-time watch (maybe?), but definitely not a keeper; my time would've been better spent doing a re-watch of one of the older, tried & true Christmas movies I have on dvd or dvr." ~Jane
π "CHRISTMAS IN TOYLAND - I do really liked this one. The female lead was new to me but she was very likable and had a great chemistry with Jesse Hutch. It was a really cute and fun Christmas movie with some cliches mixed in, and it was quite enjoyable to watch." ~CH Mom

π✉ "Got the chance to see 14 Love Letters and the good news is that it is definitely family friendly. It seems that the movies Hallmark buy in never quite measure up to their own productions and half way through this seemed to be the case. Basically Kallie (Vanessa Sears) was receiving anonymous historical love letters in her mailbox and had to figure out who was sending them, there was also the subplot of a neighbour wanting to buy her home for the land to set up a riding stable and she didn't want to sell. It was hard to get into and plodded along and then it was as if someone suddenly turned a switch and the movie took off for the second half was really good. I remember Franco Lo Pesti from his UPtv movie The Story Of Love with Brittany Bristow earlier this year and he's certainly a hunk - I thought he and Vanessa Sears whom I was unfamiliar with teamed well. Marisol Nichols & Kristoffer Polaha have a Christmas movie called; “A Christmas Disconnect”, will premiere on Hallmark Channel for Countdown to Christmas according to Marisol’s Instagram
ReplyDeleteCory Lee is starring in Hallmark Christmas movie called; My Grownup Christmas List”, alongside Kevin McGarry & Kayla Wallace
ReplyDeleteThank you for adding that! I always liked Cory Lee on MatchMaker Mysteries, too... she was such a fun character in those!
DeleteHi Net! 'Ground Swell' is based on the book of the same name by Katie Lee Biegel (from Food Network). According to Deadline, 'Ground Swell' will premiere on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries later in the year. Here's the article if you're interested:

Sally, Thank you for sharing that! Now that you mention it, I recall reading that article in May, but had forgotten about it saying HMM. It feels like there isn't much divide between the two channels, with the lack of new mysteries and both stations airing content from the other more frequently now. It's too bad they ceased making so many of the old mysteries we loved. I'm puzzled as to why they are making some of these programming decisions.
DeleteAnyway, thank you so much for this reminder! Blessings on your day! :)
Until Hallmark returns to it's previous format of releasing movies without LGBQABC (whatever it is) I wont be watching any of their movies. I'm excited to see The "Christmas Farm" on GAC this season. Anything with Jill Wagner in it is usually really good.
ReplyDeleteI agree - The Christmas Farm looks great, and Jill Wagner is one of my top favorites, too! I'm hoping we will have many more movies to look forward to seeing on GAC Family in the future as they build their movie library.
DeleteI love Jill Wagner, so happy she’s made another movie for GAC!
DeleteMy Grown-Up Christmas List looks great.
ReplyDeleteNet, I'm excited about My Grown Up Christmas List, too! It's gonna be fun to see Kayla and Kevin together again. CJ
ReplyDeleteI am definitely looking forward to My Grown-Up Christmas List! I love Kevin McGarry and pretty much love his movies! I would have much rather he had signed with GAC Family but it is what it is. With Hallmark it appears that so many of our favorites have moved to GAC and with the amount of "diversity" I am finding that I no longer am as excited with their new movies. I am really hoping that GAC Family expands and overtakes Hallmark and the best family friendly "go to" station to watch!
ReplyDeleteJanet, Thank you for your wonderful comment... I 100% agree! I sure hope GAC Family keeps getting bigger and better!
DeletePlus, I'm also a big fan of Kevin McGarry and this upcoming Christmas movie looks (so far) especially good!
I so appreciate you sharing with us! God bless! :)

UPDATE: I have learned there will be a same-sex relationship in the upcoming Christmas in July movie, Campfire Christmas. Due to my own personal faith and beliefs, I will not be promoting this film. I wanted to be certain you all were aware.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised about the same-sex relationship, now that I take a good look at the poster and see two guys next to each other on the right.
DeleteI had a feeling there was going to be something wrong with that movie. -Maria
DeleteMark 25 and Maria, I had the same feeling, as well. In fact, I was first wondering when I saw the promo commercial, then the poster, and finally, the press photos confirmed it. It's disappointing, but I'm glad to know ahead of time, at least.
DeleteI watched promo trailer “Campfire Christmas” - they splashed water or Gatorade bucket on 2 guys on their lounge chairs in the middle of the night
DeleteI just looked At the photos for Campfire Christmas and saw two men looking like they were about to kiss, while I don’t care what people do in their lives, I don’t want to watch it, I quickly came here to check it out and you confirmed it for me, thanks for letting us know! Why can’t Hallmark just stay the way it was, so disappointing, they ruin everything these days!π
DeleteI thought something looked fishy in the commercials for Campfire Christmas - a blink and you miss it moment between two guys - so I came here to check. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping us updated on these things!
DeleteWith 5 movies over the two channels unfortunately in today's climate it was unlikely they would all be familly friendly.
ReplyDeleteI would say there's a 50-50 chance of another one with unsavoury material - Florence
Got the chance to see 14 Love Letters and the good news is that it is definitely family friendly.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the movies Hallmark buy in never quite measure up to their own productions and half way through this seemed to be the case.
I knew right from the beginning who was sending the letters - or I thought I did - I was wrong!!
Overall probably worth a watch.
Florence's rating 4 for the first half, 8 for the second so a 6
Florence, It's great to get your early take on the movie, 14 Love Letters! Happy to hear, most of all, it is family-friendly!
DeleteAlso, fun to hear this is sort of a mystery - in trying to figure out who sent the letters. I must say, I am definitely intrigued now! It's been awhile since we've had a good Hallmark mystery. (I do hear another new one is in-the-works starring Mallory Jansen (On the 12th Date of Christmas), but I'm waiting to share once Hallmark makes the official announcement.)
Thank you for watching and letting us know about 14 Love Letters! I appreciate it so much!!! :)
I posted your review above! ^
Great to hear there is another Mallory Jansen movie in the pipeline.
DeleteI thoroughly enjoyed On the 12th Date of Christmas with irs unique plot and Her Pen Pal was just captivating - Florence
It is easier for me to just stay away from Hallmark altogether. Enough already!
ReplyDeleteSad but it’s getting to seem that way, I’m so disappointed in Hallmark
DeleteMy Grown-up Christmas List. Cute movie but not worth saving on my dvr, not even for cutie-patootie Kevin. ;) If you're able to ignore the military stuff, then this would be a sweet Christmas movie to watch.
ReplyDelete~~Jane
Jane, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on "My Grown-up Christmas List," especially your perspective regarding the military aspect. There are some things they can fictionalize, but the military parts shouldn't be one of them.
DeleteI've been able to see half of the movie, so far, and you are so right... that Kevin McGarry is certainly a handsome guy!
Thank you for taking the time to share with us. So nice to hear from you! :)

My Grown-Up Christmas List -
ReplyDeleteFamily-friendly? Yes -
Keeper? Not for me -
I appreciate the uniqueness of this movie, showing a relationship over a period of a few years.
I was really hoping for a greater tie-in to the song and didn't get it.
Mark 25, Thank you for sharing this review for "My Grown-Up Christmas List." Relationships often seem rushed in Hallmark movies, don't they? Especially the Christmas movies. I often think... wait? Didn't they just meet last week? It can be quite funny, at times.
DeleteAnyway, that's too bad the song, "My Grown-Up Christmas List," doesn't have much connection to the movie... I enjoyed hearing it at the beginning.
Thank you, again, for sharing. I posted your review above.
Hallmark and their pandering to "woke" garbage is very annoying and I find myself skipping more and more of their movies. I will definitely skip Campfire Christmas, but I am looking forward to seeing real life couple Kevin and Kayla in My Grown-Up Christmas List.
ReplyDeleteGAC Family doesn't seem to have the annoying movies that Hallmark now has, but GAC Family still has relatively few films, so I hope that they will continue to increase their movie production. Hallmark is going to lose more and more viewers if they keep imposing gratuitous and irritating "progressive" content. Hallmark was so much better years ago.
Ken, Thank you so much for your comment. I agree... I miss the early days at Hallmark, too. If only we could go back to simpler times.
DeleteI don’t like the “ woke garbage” either. Something else I don’t like is Gods name taken in vain, that happens in almost every film, no matter if it’s hallmark, up or gac, it’s not just saying God, but gosh and quite a number of other slangs if you will that is taking God or Jesus name in vain. Why do they do that. It is offensive. I wish people would wright hallmark, uptake and gac to tell them to stop. Also tell them to stope the random lying. When someone lies and then later makes it wright I can see that as being used as a lesson. Thanks for listening.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, Thank you for sharing that. I feel the same way about hearing God's name taken in vain. It's typically very unnecessary and hearing it always makes me cringe inside. I agree, it is very offensive. I appreciate you sharing you thoughts with us. God's blessings to you!
DeleteI wish I had found this site before I watched “Campfire Christmas.”
ReplyDeleteI don’t like the “woke” stuff either.
Christmas in Toyland -
ReplyDeleteFamily-friendly? Yes -
Keeper? Unfortunately No -
I really wanted to like this movie!
As many of us have said before, it's time to put quality over quantity!
Mark 25, I appreciate getting your thoughts on Christmas in Toyland. You make some really good points. I, too, was puzzled that no one at the company had considered the flagship store possibility. Plus, like you said, Las Vegas, of all places, now that's a really kid-friendly location. So true.
DeletePlus, the store she was analyzing was already doing well in this location. If they were shutting stores down all over the country, wouldn't they have already had one in Las Vegas, or nearby, that was doing poorly?
Anyway, thank you, again, for sharing your take with us! I posted your review above. ^
Totally agree with Mark 25. For me, this movie was a cute one-time watch (maybe?), but definitely not a keeper; my time would've been better spent doing a re-watch of one of the older, tried & true Christmas movies I have on dvd or dvr.
