Dear friends... On this weekend, as we reflect on the 20th year since September 11th, 2001, let us pray for the family and friends who remain and never forget what happened that day. Psalm 34:18 promises us this: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
Do you remember where you were on September 11th? I was watching on TV from home that day as each horrible event unfolded that morning and praying hard it would come to an end; I recall holding family close and calling other family members on the phone - just wanting that connection with loved ones. It was such a dark morning, but through it all came stories of heroism that brought new light out of the darkness.
News networks will, of course, be covering the 9-11 memorials throughout Saturday. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani began the reading of the victim's names at Ground Zero in 2002 and this honorable, heartfelt tradition will continue this year at the 9/11 Memorial in New York — carried out by family members of those killed on September 11, 2001. There will also be memorials at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and the crash site of the United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Also, be sure to watch on TV Saturday evening for the incredible Tribute in Light. The 9-11 Memorial & Museum describes it as "a commemorative public art installation first presented six months after 9/11 and then every year thereafter, from dusk to dawn, on the night of September 11. It has become an iconic symbol that both honors those killed and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York." The Tribute in Light at Ground Zero truly is a beautiful tribute; once again showing that light outshines the darkness.
My prayers go out to all whose lives were immeasurably shattered and changed forever on September 11th.
It is hard to transition on to other subjects after this, but at the end of this difficult day on Saturday, if you are looking for something lighthearted to watch on TV, then you may want to turn to Hallmark's new movie, which includes a storyline of a Lieutenant who has recently left military service and is adapting to life back home. I am beyond grateful for our military, who keeps us safe from terrorists every day. See details for this movie and others below...

Let us remember with this purpose in mind...
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”
(Romans 12:21)

ReplyDeleteDid anybody knew anybody who was killed When the planes hit the World trade center and the Pentagon on Tuesday September 11,2001?
ReplyDeleteChris, I did not, but I do know a woman who lost her husband that day. Very heartbreaking.
DeleteI was watching morning news television and tending to my older two boys. I watched it unfold, shocked. School was canceled, my husband was evacuated from a government building--because we live in the greater MD/DC/NoVA area, federal government and bases, so much was unknown about any more potential targets. It was such a surreal day. Our neighbors all gathered to have a candlelight vigil.
ReplyDeleteDenise, thank you for sharing your remembrance with us. I agree - it is still so surreal. The candlelight vigil sounds beautiful.
DeleteI’m praying for the families on this somber day and all the lives taken with cancer afterwards due to their exposure at Ground zero.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was really young, but do remember my brother and I were just about to leave to go to kindergarten when it came on the tv. A full day of prayers. I remember my mom fasting.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers go out to their loved ones today. Thank you Net for bringing this up and what a wonderful verse (Psalm 119:114) My family and I love to pray out loud that chapter during our group devotion time.
Abigail - how precious and innocent your age on this tragic day. Thank you for sharing with us and the special verse your family shares at devotion. That is beautiful. Blessings to you and your family!
DeleteThank your for the touching and thoughtful tribute, Net. Thanks for keeping us all updated too.
ReplyDeleteMisty
Misty, thank you, honey... blessings to you! Thank you for your warm presence here!
DeleteThat day will always be fresh in my memory. My children had gone to school. My husband and I were listening to local news when it suddenly switched to national news, showing the attack live. I wanted to go for the kids so I could just wrap my arms around them and hold them close.
ReplyDeleteNet, reading your words about that day touched me deeply. You are gifted in writing. God bless America! God bless everyone!
kitkat, Thank you, my dear friend! Your words truly touched my heart.
DeleteI can just imagine everyone glued to their TVs that day - absorbing what took place. I'm so glad we had the Lord to lean upon - I cannot imagine life with Him.
God's Blessings to you!
Net, I hope you heard President Trump's speech on 9/11. He was with "Let Us Worship" group. Wonderful speech! Uplifting! They are calling for 21 days of prayer for our nation. It is on YT.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, kitkat. I will have to look that up. I did see President Trump speaking with the Police in New York on 9/11 - that was an incredible gathering.
DeleteI watched it, Kitkat. We live nearby and my sister went down for the Sunday "Let Us Worship". She was down there last year, too, for the huge prayer and worship celebration.
Delete~~Jane
Jane, wish I could have been there! Thank you for sharing with me.
Deletekitkat, I found it on YT. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be sure to pass it on to others. I'm praying with you!
DeleteJane, So glad to hear you saw this and your sister was able to attend this wonderful event of fellow believers - praying together for our nation. Thank you for sharing with us.
DeleteThank you for sharing that verse above. 9-11 was a hard day for me.
ReplyDelete“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”
(Romans 12:21)
Since reading it on Saturday I’ve repeated those words over and over in mind. It’s hard to deal with the evil that attacked America that day. But overcoming with good is a great message and has helped me get through these difficult days.
I'm so glad that scripture from God's Holy Word touched your heart on September 11th. It's been repeating in my mind and heart, as well. We must be the Light of Christ for others who are living in the dark. God bless you!
DeleteI liked Roadhouse Romance. It was different in a good way. No misunderstandings...that twist that always seems to be near the end. Lauren had such a sweet spirit and beautiful smile. She and Tyler were very flirty and playful with each other...loved it! Of course I already knew how beautiful she can sing. So no disappointment there. Tyler was great as always. And it's family friendly! Big plus these days!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, Thank you for sharing this delightful review for "Roadhouse Romance!" So glad to hear how much you enjoyed it, and, YES!, very glad to hear it it is family friendly!
