Wild West Chronicles

*This is a 30 minute show that shows the old wild west. Caution: there will be violence.

Details via INSP: In INSP’s original docudrama series, the legendary Bat Masterson trades his sheriff’s badge for a pen to chase stories instead of outlaws. On a quest to separate the truth from fiction, the gunslinger-turned-newspaperman travels the frontier to track down eyewitnesses who share their vivid memories of the Old West’s most incredible events. In some stories, Bat uncovers new information on famous characters like Wild Bill Hickock, Butch Cassidy, and Annie Oakley. In others, he learns about the incredible exploits of lesser-known folks like Stagecoach Mary, Doc Susie, and Bass Reeves, who made their own indelible marks on the American frontier. In these headline-grabbing tales, heroic lawmen clash with murderous desperados, and brave pioneers face untold hardships in a bygone age of danger and lawlessness long before the West was tamed.

Hope you all have a nice weekend. Our weather has turned so chilly here in the Midwest for April; it sometimes feels more like Autumn, then Spring! What is your weather like in your area? Hopefully, yours is more Spring-like!

As for what's new to watch this weekend... of course, if your a frequent follower of It's a Wonderful Movie, then you probably already know I'm very much looking forward to an all new episode of "When Calls the Heart" on Sunday night! In this new episode, Fiona is back (Yay!) and it looks like this lovely bridal shower for Florence will be lots of fun, especially since Rosemary is in charge of the games!

What are you looking forward to watching this weekend? Please share in comments below...

Please Note: I have not pre-screened the new movies. If you'd like to share whether a movie is family-friendly, please leave a review below in comments.

  1. Hi Net,

I'm looking forward to Right in Front of You (it looks super cute) and When Calls the Heart. This season has kept me on the edge of my seat the writing is so good. Anxious to find out who she picks, just hoping she stops being afraid and gives Nathan a chance.

    1. Same here - with Nathan, although, I'm kinda at the point that I'm not sure Elizabeth deserves the incredible love he's offering her. This season has truly been a nail biter; I'm hoping were not left at the very end with another cliff hanger.

Thanks for the update! I love that Bruce Boxleitner will have his own little mystery! My twin sister and I loved him on Scarecrow and Mrs King!

    1. Misty! Oh my goodness... Snow in Spring!

We are expecting some to come our way, too, but haven't heard the exact amount, yet. I don't think we'll be shoveling, but who knows. It's crazy weather - one day it's sunny, with temps in the 60's (possibly low 70's) and the next it's dropped down to the 30's and snowing!!!

Hope you enjoyed the new mystery... I plan to record it today when it encores at 6pm! :)

    1. Diane, I know just what you mean! Some of the historical inaccuracies really bug me, too. First off, the hair. We've all seen pics from the 1910's - 1920's and no one had hair like that. And I wish they would wear more hats. I love that Christopher has brought that style into the show with his newsboy cap, and Joseph has worn a few, but I would love to see the ladies wear them again like they did in the first season or two.

I miss the way the people seemed to be living in hard times in the beginning. The school children looked to be poorer and they all helped one another. Now, everyone seems to be living quite well these days, even Jesse and Clara, who don't have any money.

  4. I enjoyed the first episode of "Wild West Chronicles" very much! Of course, I've always enjoyed westerns, and find Bat Masterson's life fascinating! He really did end up as a newspaper reporter, which I've been doing as a freelance writer for decades. Very interested to see how they approach tonight's focus on the Lone Ranger. He was patterned after a black marshal in reality --and want to see if they acknowledge that. Thank you for your highlighting all these movies!

  5. I thoroughly enjoy the Hallmark Mysteries--which they were able to produce more! Would be a great opportunity to add some new casts to the Hallmark corps--would like to see them cast folks like Jennifer Gardner ( if that was possible ) --and cast a few folks like Brittany Bristow, Rebecca Stahl, Emily Tennant, Cynthia Gibb, and Teryl Rothery in lead roles. Hallmark has eliminated at least 3 of the series--would like to see them replaced.

  6. A last comment for today...lol....am happy to see some new male leads too...enjoy watching the long time male leads--and don't want them replaced--but especially in the mysteries, having some new / additional male leads would be terrific. Hopeful that Hallmark and Lifetime would try a little harder to find male/female leads with better chemistry than some of the combinations they have cast. I guess the main request is: more mysteries and Christmas / Holiday movies please!! Have a blessed day!

    1. Matt, I love your incredible enthusiasm!!! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

First... So glad to hear how much you are enjoying the Wild West Chronicles. That show really brings history to life, doesn't it? It's quite intense!

Mysteries - those are my favorite, too! I love trying to piece it all together and "try" to figure out the culprit. Wish we could have more, too... plus, I like your casting ideas, especially Brittany Bristow - she would be super fun crime solving! :)

Lastly... I'm all for new male leads! It's nice to see new faces from time to time - to mix things up. As for more Christmas... I always say "more the merrier!"

      Blessings on your day! Net

  12. Starting Up Love.

Bit strange this - normally the main requisite for me is that their must be good chemistry between the leads and I don't think it was strong here, while not lacking.

I'd never heard of either before but while I really liked the male lead I didn't think Anna Hutchinson was correctly cast although I did begin to warm more to her towards the end.

I thought Charlene Tilton was good as the aunt much better than in her recent Lifetime Christmas movie and the rest of the secondary cast put in pretty decent performances as well.

The scenery was excellent and the plot was actually interesting.

Probably this film was made on a low budget and I suspect if Hallmark had made it many of the rough edges would have been smoothed.

THE KISS at the end was rather anaemic - more like brother and sister if anything.

Oddly though I'd have to say I quite it enjoyed it overall - I'd certainly like to see Ricky Myers in anther role.

No problems regarding it being family friendly.

    1. Chris, I'm not sure if any of the mystery movies were filmed in the U.S.

Some of the drama type movies that have aired on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries were filmed in America.

Timeless Love was filmed in Utah, while Midway to Love was filmed in Kentucky. I'm sure there are others, too, like these.

  14. Net, what did you think of WCTH last night? The games were fun, but I was shocked at how Elizabeth treated Rosemary. That was totally unexpected.

    1. Anna, I was truly stunned by Elizabeth's reaction to Rosemary, it was totally unexpected. Obviously, Elizabeth is dealing with her own inner conflict and feelings toward Nathan, but the way she responded to Rosemary was very telling. Hurtful. Rosemary gave her the truth, and she didn't want to hear it, so she turned her away. I think they'll be friends again, in time, but judging that Elizabeth's still with Lucas next week, it's probably going to take another episode. Although, it's amazing how quickly some things can be resolved, while others carry on and on...

  15. I am definitely enjoying watching When Calls the Heart, but I feel like Elizabeth is driving my family and me crazy! She is acting so bratty. I think she should stop running out on Nathan every time he talks to her. I don't know why or how she is blaming him for what happened to Jack. And I don't know why she didn't just go have dinner with Allie when she invited her! And in the first episode when all four of them were supposed to eat at the cafe. It's really frustrating! She said when she was talking to Lucas in the school that she is "not herself", and I think we can all tell.
But, I am SUPER happy that they have made Joseph be the pastor! I love the whole Canfield family! I am really glad that they are in Hope Valley. And I also love how Henry and his son have grown in their relationship with each other. It's such a sweet storyline. Henry is one of my favorite characters, and I love how he has changed from being so mean to so not haha. And I also am happy that Jesse and Clara are finally happy with each other again.
Also, did anyone else think it was strange how they threw "Paul" in to this last episode? Don't you think that Florence would've mentioned her son even a little bit in the past 7 seasons? It seemed really random...
And one more thing. At the end of the episode Henry mentioned to Bill helping him look into the mine disaster. I'm so curious to see what happened there since I don't think we have had a straightforward answer yet!

    1. So good to hear how much you're enjoying WCTH! Lots of drama and emotion has been packed into this season. Lately, Elizabeth's character, in my opinion, hasn't been very likable, and I'm starting to wonder why Nathan loves her. Is it only out of duty and guilt? I totally feel your frustration on the missed opportunities - as E constantly pushes N away.

I'm super happy, too, about Joseph becoming the Pastor. Hope Valley needs a minister. I was hoping when Joseph noticed Nathan being quiet at the bachelor party, that maybe they would have a conversation later on, but it didn't happen.

Yes, I too was baffled by the sudden appearance of Florence's son, Paul. We haven't seen him in the school or anywhere, that I can recall. Maybe he was briefly mentioned in the first season??? Or, was it possibly mentioned sometime that Flo had children? It seems very sudden for him to appear just now. And, even so... shouldn't he be a little older than that?

I thought the ending was beautiful between Bill and Henry. In order to protect his son, Henry is willing to sacrifice himself and fall on the sword, as they say. I hope it doesn't happen; I think Bill can surely see Henry isn't the man he used to be. And was Henry referring to Abigail when he mentioned a past love? Is that door opening for Lori Loughlin to finally return. I hope so! She could have her own love triangle between Henry and Bill. That would be something!

    2. It seems like we have the same thoughts about all of this, and movies in general! It's fun to discuss:)
I did have one question about a scene and was wondering what you think about it. When Lucas and Henry went outside and were fighting during the bachelor party, Lucas said something like he invited Christopher to come. But didn't Henry get in touch with him? And Lucas said he found his information while looking through the ledgers, but Henry handed those over last season. I'm just kinda confused about that whole part. What do you think?

      Delete
    3. Same here! I thought that part gave us viewers more questions than answers. It was very confusing. I guess Lucas got in touch with Christopher first??? I'm still piecing this story line together.

      Delete
    4. It's good to hear that it's not just me! I skipped back a few times and tried to understand but it just didn't seem like enough information was given during the conversation. At the end when Christopher is leaving, he tries to tell Henry something about Lucas. Henry says how it doesn't matter and that all is forgiven. But maybe there is more to the story and that was a teaser?

  18. In this scene, what you can see is a huge celebration both for the upcoming bride and groom, and of course, honoring them should take center stage. Yet, and as is often the case in life, there are a few other things going on here, as well. For Nathan, for example, he’s clearly struggling with something. What is that? We gotta think it ties back to what he revealed to Elizabeth. He was already afraid he’d be losing her, and this is the sort of thing that could push her away further. He never meant for anything to happen to Jack, but it’s hard to know where her head is going to be at. These sort of situations can be hard to predict!

  19. Elizabeth Walks Away When Nathan Confesses Why He Didn’t Tell Her About Fort Clay, Leaving Everyone Confused

Elizabeth finally gets up the courage to talk to Nathan. She stops by the jail and asks him what took so long for him to tell her the truth about Jack.

“I felt guilty,” Nathan says. “After the accident, I requested to transfer here to Hope Valley. I never met Jack, but I knew he left behind a wife and child, and I felt it was my responsibility to look after you. To protect you. … I felt it was my duty. When I found myself … falling in love with you, I felt like I was betraying Jack and his memory. That’s why I didn’t tell you. I fell in love with you. And I think that love is always worth fighting for.”

Clearly upset by what he said and not sure how to react, Elizabeth excuses herself and just walks away.

And that’s when they finally play the game that was hinted at in the preview. Each woman puts on a blindfold, with the men standing on the other side of the room. The blindfolded woman must figure out which man she’s meant to be with by holding his hands. Florence can identify Ned right away. But when it’s Elizabeth’s turn, she accidentally picks Nathan instead of Lucas, saying “Lucas!” as she takes off her blindfold.

  20. Rosemary Suggests That Nathan Let Elizabeth Go, but He Can’t

While Elizabeth is still trying to figure out a way to talk to Nathan about his confession, Nathan stops by the library and runs into Rosemary.

Nathan says that he’s just not ready to give up on Elizabeth. So it looks like he’s still in the fight and not letting go. It doesn’t matter what Rosemary or anyone else — even Elizabeth — says. Nathan is in this and he’s not going to let go until he’s clearly told to do so.

  21. After Nathan finally revealed to Elizabeth what he had been hiding about Fort Clay

Elizabeth is dealing with Nathan’s confession and all the heartbreak from Jack’s death coming back to the surface

When the episode begins, Elizabeth confesses that ever since Nathan revealed the truth about what happened at Fort Clay, she’s been left to reflect again on the accident that took Jack’s life. And she’s wondering why Nathan kept everything hidden from her.

When the episode begins, Elizabeth confesses that ever since Nathan revealed the truth about what happened at Fort Clay, she’s been left to reflect again on the accident that took Jack’s life. And she’s wondering why Nathan kept everything hidden from her.

She tells Rosemary that the only thing that makes sense to her is the love she feels for her son. But their talk quickly turns back to Jack and Nathan. Rosemary says that maybe Nathan never told her because he just didn’t think it was important enough to warrant making Elizabeth upset and stirring up those feelings again. Jack’s death wasn’t Nathan’s fault, she tells Elizabeth. But Elizabeth doesn’t understand why Rosemary felt the need to tell her that, and now she just feels more upset

Elizabeth was starting to move on, and now all those difficult feelings have been stirred up again, making them feel fresh all over again. This has to be why she’s so sensitive to everyone and taking things wrong. But a lot of people might get hurt before she realizes what’s going on.

Elizabeth says that she just doesn’t know why Nathan kept this from her for so long.
