PLOT:

Storyline via Hallmark: An emergency room doctor returns home for Christmas after many years to find that her father has decided to retire. After reuniting with her high school sweetheart and spending an emotional Christmas with her family, she must decide if she will stay in her hometown and takeover her father’s practice.

Movie Review:

The Christmas Cure is an inspiring, beautiful “home is where the heart is” story!
Welcoming Vanessa back home for Christmas are her loving parents, her fun 18 year old brother, Kyle, and her extra sweet ex-boyfriend, Mitch, who just may still have a piece of her heart.

One of my favorite lines in the movie is when the mother says to her grown up daughter, Vanessa, who is a doctor in the city, “Sometimes you get so caught up in what you’re supposed to do, you miss what you’re meant to do.”

Caught in a quandary, Vanessa is at a major, perplexing decision point in her life… does she take over her father’s medical practice as he retires, or does she get back on a plane and take a higher position at the hospital in the city where she’s been practicing alone for years?

Being home again just may be the cure to mend Vanessa’s broken, longing heart.

Rest assured, this is one of those beautiful Hallmark Happy Endings that we all love!

This movie is perfect for a family movie night… just what the doctor ordered!

  1. Oh I love the lady pictured with Patrick Duffy, she is from one of my faves One Starry Christmas. This movie looks good :)

    1. Yes, she is so sweet... I can just hear her now in "One Starry Christmas," when she says, "You brought home a Cowboy for Christmas!" Love that line!!! :)

    2. Seeing this made me watch the movie last night. I love her interaction with Adam at the front door, he awkwardly hugs her and then says the weather has been nice and she says yes, we have had a mild winter. and then awkwardly walks away. I love Holly's dad too, he was in A Perfect Christmas and was very funny in that. Too bad they couldn't be in this movie together again.

  3. So happy to see Brooke Nevin in a new Hallmark Christmas movie! Her performance in "On the Twelfth Day of Christmas" has made that movie one of my Hallmark Christmas favorites!

    1. This Brooke Nevin's 2nd movie since "On the Twelfth Day of Christmas. I can't wait to see her more movies for Hallmark. I watched her on "Animorph" & "CSI" on TV.

    2. Yes! Brooke Nevin was great in "On the Twelfth Day of Christmas" in 2015. I found it funny that her love interest in that movie is named Mitch, and her "potential" love interest in this new movie, is also Mitch! Coincidence? I wonder! If his name, was say Nick, I would think nothing of it, being a Christmas movie. But, Mitch is more of a unique name.

In 2016, Brooke Nevin co-starred with Candace Cameron Bure and Oliver Hudson, in the Hallmark Christmas movie "Journey Back to Christmas!" She played Sarah, a police officer.

Thank you for commenting, Mark and Anonymous! I'm also delighted to see Brooke in this upcoming movie!!! :)

  4. That is a great ending to the movie! I also enjoy near the beginning where they are making the snowman and snow angels together. Brooke and Robin Dunne have great chemistry! I would love to see them together again in a movie (perhaps in a sequel)!

    1. Yes! A sequel with both of them would be great!!! All the big and little details in "On the Twelfth Day of Christmas" is what makes it so wonderful to watch and re-watch, over and over again! I feel like it's one of those overlooked great Hallmark Christmas movies, a treasure that only few find and love when they do!!!

  6. Brooke Nevin was so good in On The Twelfth Day of Christmas. Definitely one of the best hallmark movies about the acts of love rather than just feelings.

  7. Who plays Patrick Duffy's wife in this movie? She looks so familiar.

    1. Joan, That actress is Kathleen Laskey, who you may recognize as the mother from "One Starry Christmas!" (the one where the young woman brings home a Cowboy for Christmas and his brother!) Kathleen was so funny in that one - I'm sure we'll like her in this one just as much! She looks so sweet, I think, in all of the pictures she's in above!

    1. Oh my goodness... What a memorable character she is! The actress who baked the cookies and the Baumkuchen cake is Pam Hyatt. She was also in the Hallmark Channel Christmas movie "Christmas Song," portraying an eccentric judge in the singing contest.

  9. The movie was great. The script in some Hallmark movies lately has become very predictable. But this was an exception. I will see this movie again at Christmas.

  10. Strange that there hasn't been much reaction to The Christmas Cure.

I was very disappointed in last year's July Christmas offering but I really liked this one.

Although the plot probably centred more on the situation with the clinic than the romance between Mitch and Vanessa it was more what I expect from a Hallmark movie and Brooke Nevin and Steve Byers combined well together plus it was lovely to see Patrick Duffy again.

The film editing was a bit disjointed to me and it jumped scenes abruptly - I lost count of how many times they kept showing a picture of the front of the house/clinic.

As so often with Hallmark I was disappointed the ending was so abrupt - no sequel please but a short epilogue showing Vanessa'a father's reaction to her career decision and Mitch and Vanessa engaged and happy in each other's company would have been wonderful.

I had really felt for Mitch and wanted a chance to enjoy his happiness!

Overall though a very pleasing movie and if this year's Christmas offerings are up to the standard of The Christmas Cure then we're in for a great season.

    1. You are so right - "The Christmas Cure" was a great Christmas in July movie! I loved the lighthearted, feel-good, homey feeling it gave! Like you, the end left me wanting just a little more - with Mitch, and especially with the parents and brother, too! I so wanted to see everyone's reaction to Vanessa's news!

Otherwise, a very sweet movie and definitely a wonderful one to re-watch with the family and enjoy during the holiday season!

  11. Does anyone know what town and state the it was to take place in?? Also, when she grabs a VHS tape (christmas pagent), the one below said Watkins Glenn camping trip. My wife grew up in Watkins Glen (NY).. is there a Hallmark connection to the area?

  12. Connecticut. I don't know the town.

  13. I rediscovered this movie last Christmas. From the beginning of the film a viewer got the hint that Vanessa's heart was in Family Medicine. The daughter-father scenes were so sweet, especially of Vanessa's gift of the stethoscope. Patrick Duffy was great. Plus there was Golden Retriever!
