Sunday November 13, 2016

Unfortunately, some of these movies do air at the same time, but thankfully there will be repeat airings for all. Be sure to check the Christmas TV Schedule for additional movie showings!
Hope you all have a wonderful "Christmas Movie Watching Weekend"! We are now less than 2 weeks 'til Thanksgiving!!!
Blessings to you all, Net
Really looking forward to Finding Father Christmas. Really enjoyed the novella on which it's based
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Finding Father Christmas! The first offering (Love Always, Santa) by Hallmark Movies & Mysteries was extremely good. The fact that it actually was winter when they shot the movie as well as the casting and the wonderful mix of funny and sweet made it a winner. You usually don't get that kind of humor in Hallmark movies. Definitely a stronger start than the regular Hallmark channel that's for sure. The movies on that channel have been "OK" movies which seems par for the course the past few years as they've continued to churn out way too many new offerings each year.
ReplyDeleteBoth movies were great! I don't like how they are both on basically at the same time (an hour difference) though. I had to keep switching back and forth!

Unfortunately I have to agree with Michelle.
ReplyDeleteI feel to some extent Hallmark has been sacrificing quality for quantity the past few Christmases.
Certainly there have been some great Christmas Movies such as Nine Lives Of Christmas, Angels And Ornaments and Angel Of Christmas but whereas when I was rating them it would have been very rare to give any less than a 6 out of 10 - which I regard as an average if solid Hallmark I have found an increasing number failing to even achieve this.
There have been a few really poor ones such as Christmas Incorporated and Coolie Cutter Christmas which are amongst their worst.
I was just talking about this with my husband this weekend. I kind of feel Hallmark wants to say they have 19 new movies which is more than last year, but I feel some the quality of many of the movies is lacking. Christmas Cookies was the first good one for me on the Hallmark channel. On HMM&M, I have really enjoyed all the movies so far. I especially loved Finding Father Christmas and can't wait for Operation Christmas. I know you can't like them all, I look back to the years they didn't have a record number of new movies and I loved all those movies. 2014 with Christmas Under Wraps, Nine Lives of Christmas, some of the best movies.
DeleteI actually sat and watched Christmas Incorporated this weekend, it is a pretty good movie. Angels & Ornaments, I just can't get into. And Angel's Sing, I thought I remembered it being good, I was watching the other day and it is one tragedy after another. Just too sad :( I could talk for days about Hallmark movies.
DeleteEven in 2014 -- only 2 years ago -- Hallmark was still putting out more Christmas movies than any other network. That status has not changed. It's just that now there are 19 on one channel instead of 12. I don't think that an additional 7 new movies has ruined anything. Viewers are going to like some things and dislike some other things. People have different tastes.
DeleteI think that Hallmark is putting out more movies now because people keep complaining to them about how there are not enough new ones and that they have seen all the old ones. People naively think that the entire 2-month Countdown to Christmas marathon should be filled with only new movies, or that there should be a brand new movie every night of the week for 2 months.
Hallmark cranks out more and more new movies each year because people want more. Supply and demand, I suppose.
Someone from Hallmark (probably Michelle Vicary) once said that they'd like to get to 29 new Christmas movies by 2018 (29 between the 2 channels). Seeing that they already premiered 28 new ones this year (including "A Perfect Christmas" in July and Part 2 of "The Bridge" back in March), I think they will either make the same number of new movies in 2017 as they did this year and then increase that number in 2018, or they will just go for that golden "29" number one year early! (And I have no clue why "29" is the magic number instead of, for example, 30 or 35 or whatever! Lol. It seems like they are on track to 30 within another year or two.)
What's good or not good in terms of movies is subjective. There are some movies that people like and I just don't get it at all because I don't like them. And there are movies that I really enjoy, which other people don't like at all.
ReplyDeleteOf course, there might be larger groups siding together on liking or disliking certain movies to where there seems to be a general consensus (for example, more people agree that "Nine Lives of Christmas" is a good movie than disagree), but what one person thinks is a bad movie is what someone else thinks is a great one.
A lot of people did not like "Angels & Ornaments" at all when it first premiered. I remember the negative comments on the Hallmark Facebook page on the night it debuted. I was tempted to not even watch it because I was reading so many unfavorable comments. Thankfully, fortunately, I watched the movie despite what I was reading -- and I loved it. It's now on my list of my Top 10 favorite Hallmark Christmas movies.
Whether a network puts out 6 new Christmas movies or 26 new ones, chances are there will be some good ones in the bunch -- and also some that people don't really care for. I was not a fan of "Christmas Incorporated," but I have read many comments from people who say they enjoyed it.
It's all subjective.
I think this year has had some of the best ones yet! Keep up the good work, Hallmark! :)

I agree. I think many of the older movies I like much better. And they are not on dvd. There seems to be some contractual glich. Maybe people could sit down and figure out how to get the older and much beloved movies on dvd. There are plenty of fans waiting. Some I would like to see are: Matchmaker Santa, Window Wonderland, Catch a Christmas Star, Thanksgiving House, Finding Christmas, Once upon a holiday, 12 gifts of Christmas and Dashing through the snow. I'd buy all of these if they were on dvd. Let's hope for a Christmas Miracle. Oh, Farewell Mr. Kringle and Help for the holidays, too. Also, not Christmas related, but any word on "Love in paradise" or "Valentine ever after" coming out on dvd. On the older Christmas movies, every year there is less and less showings. How long before they are gone altogether? RG
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen any new Christmas movies with Paul Campbell, Katrina Law, Eric Johnson, or Sara Lancaster. Does anyone know of movies they are in? RG
ReplyDeleteEric Johnson was awesome in Valentine Ever After earlier this year but I think he's been tied up with the Fifty Shades movies. IMDB shows him listed in both sequels.
DeleteI'm wondering where Paul Campbell is also.
Katrina Law has been busy with Arrow on tv.
And it looks like Autumn Reeser (who I would've loved to see in a new movie this season) is busy in action movies after Valentine Ever After.
Would be great to see Sarah Lancaster also but it looks like she took this year off.
Yes! Valentine Ever After was sooooo good! It's definitely on the top list of my fav Hallmark movie.
DeleteI've been wondering about those actors myself. Each of them are terrific actors/actress that bring a special "something" to each production! I wish Hallmark would do more with them. They are fan favorites who I personally would love to see more of!
DeleteValentine Ever After is one of my top movies as well! I watch it over and over again! As I do Snow Bride (Katrina Law) as well!
Thanks, Rae, for the info on each of them. It satisfied my curiosity, for now....but I still want to see them next year in Hallmark projects!
I'm running into the same issue I had last year, with DVR gridlock and so many movies premiering one after another, as well as other shows I watch. There's not enough time to comb through all of them. So I have not yet had a chance to watch "Christmas Cookies."
ReplyDeleteI did watch "Every Christmas Has a Story," and it was better than I thought it might be. I got interrupted somewhere in the second hour of the movie and it was hard to focus on it once I sat back down to continue watching. I might have to try watching it again before the season is over, as I thought it was pretty good up to the point I had to step away from it.
I enjoyed "Finding Father Christmas." I thought that I wouldn't like it, but it was good. I prefer the movies about romance blooming and the more lighthearted fare most of the time, but this one held my attention. There was a romance in it, but the romance wasn't really the purpose of the story. I had never read the book upon which this movie was based, so I can't make any comparisons.
Wendie Malick wasn't in "Finding Father Christmas" for too many scenes, and she didn't show up until later in the story, but she played an important role and she had an intriguing presence onscreen. As soon as we met her character, I thought, "Oh... she knows the truth. It's obvious."
One thing I love about (most) Hallmark Christmas movies is the generally charming, quaint "small town" vibe. I love the inns, cottages, lodges, diners, bake shops, sleighs and carriages, etc. I love all of the town residents, who are warm and friendly. I love that there are Christmas decorations everywhere, on everything. I love that there are always carolers strolling through town and Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. Hallmark never fails to create a world I want to live in during the holiday season.
