SHINING HIS LIGHT:
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
— Isaiah 9:6

Ebenezer is an upcoming dark fantasy gothic film directed by Ti West & scheduled for theatrical release on November 13, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.
ReplyDeleteWell, happy Halloween. Only thing I like about turning the clocks back is getting 1 extra hour to watch TV. Other then that, it's just a depressing reminder that winter is coming. -Maria
ReplyDeleteI agree! It seriously turned dark a little after 5 here! Ugh!

A Very Arctic Christmas was good for a one-time watch. The leads were great, but the rest of the cast were not memorable. I thought the daughter was just too blase about missing the cruise ship which must have cost a ton of money.

Who's Coming for Christmas is a wonderful movie! -Maria
ReplyDeleteWes Brown & Taylor Cole have a movie about a golf theme
ReplyDeleteA Very Arctic Christmas is very lovely. (and did you see how many of Candace's movies for this network were included?)
ReplyDelete(also, I checked the schedule for the next 2 weeks, and saw 2 old Lifetime titles included: Matchmaker Christmas and Hot Chocolate Christmas).

Adopting St Nick is so sweet! -Maria
ReplyDelete"Who's Coming for Christmas" - Wow! What an exquisite, warm and sentimental gem of a movie! This was the first movie this blessed season that touched me to the core. It made me misty-eyed and ache for the holidays I had as a child when family would come from far and wide and share a meal together. Rhiannon was so great in this movie! She was calm, engaging and so lovely. Jake was really wonderful to and together they were magic! Their chemistry was not forced and felt real and authentic. I really enjoyed watching them fall in love. Also, Rhiannon's friendship, with her elderly neighbor was so genuine and touching. There is nothing more worthwhile at Christmas, then bringing people together to celebrate love, conversation and the joy of the season. Oh, and that secret revealed toward the end made me cry tears of joy! I could not stop smiling throughout the movie! It made me so very happy. :-) I honestly wouldn't have changed a thing because it was perfect. I am still thinking about it how incredible the film was and reminiscing about it as I write my review. I highly recommend this touching film!

Review: Who's Coming for Christmas? -
ReplyDeleteFamily-friendly? Yes -
Recommend? Oh yes! -
In Matthew 25:35, Jesus says that one of the things we must do in life is to "welcome the stranger". I cannot think of any other movie where that theme is so prevalent as this one! Rhiannon's character, who is new in town, is so sweet, so bubbly, and so kind that she immediately makes lots of friends, especially with people she just meets who are in need of someone like her in their life. So friendly, in fact, that in her determination to fill the chairs around her dinner table, she invites them to Christmas Eve dinner. Talk about welcoming the stranger!
I echo everything that Joan says in her review of this movie (and as usual says so well)! The acting and the chemistry between Rhiannon and Jake - it felt very real! And the actress playing the little girl - just so believable! In fact, all of the acting was top-notch!
Admittedly, I had my concerns when I read the storyline. I mean, setting a table for eight and hoping to fill it with people you hardly know? Unlikely! And yet, by the end of the movie, I was convinced that if anyone could pull it off, it was Rhiannon's character! (Although it does still bother me that she set the table two weeks in advance! I mean...dust?)
So because of the unique storyline, the great acting and chemistry, and most of all because of its message of opening your door and yourselves to strangers, I definitely recommend giving this one a watch!!
Hi Mark 25! Aw! Thank you so much for you kind words. :-) Your sweet comment made me smile! :-) I so very much always enjoy your reviews! :-) Have a great day.
DeleteI watched Who's Coming for Christmas and it was ok. I thought the storyline was a bit boring. Rhiannon is gorgeous and the lead and her had some chemistry. I'm so used to her being in another country in her movies! LOL

A Very Arctic Christmas was another great movie by GAF. The cast was great. This movie was quick paced, the stories moved along quickly. So far this season all 4 of GAF movies were great.
ReplyDeleteA Danish Christmas was okay. -Maria
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed A Very Arctic Christmas, it was really fun. It was different seeing Jill in a movie with short hair. I may be alone in this, but I still miss her hair longer. Christie
ReplyDeleteI think I like waking up to sunshine. It brightens my day!! Pun intended ;)
ReplyDeleteA Very Arctic Christmas
ReplyDeleteThis movie was cute,
Cameron and Jill were superb as they always are. The daughter, so-so… Jill’s hair was such a shock factor for me, like everytime I saw her in another scene I had to get used to it 😵💫 As great as they both are as actors though, something about it just didn’t draw me in… I feel bad to say I was kinda bored. It reminded me of her Northern Lights one from last year with Jesse Hutch. Amazing actors, but that one kinda bored me from last year too. Family friendly and I will always support GAF for what they stand for, but this one was a one time watch for me I think.

Review: Adopting St. Nick -
ReplyDeleteFamily-friendly? Yes -
Recommend? Depends...
Amy Groening has fast become one of my favorite Hallmark actresses, and she is very good in this one. (It was also fun seeing her with Stephanie Sy again - they were in The Santa Summit together.) Michael Rady is also good (but why does he look different?), and the romance between the two was believable. Unfortunately, the storylines of adopting a grandparent, fixing up the retirement center and how-to-handle-the-inevitable-disaster, and is-he-or-isn't-he Santa, were tiring. It was tough to get into this one. So if you like the two leads, I recommend giving it a one-time watch. But if you are indifferent, I recommend skipping it.
"Adopting St. Nick" - I agree with everything Mark 25 said in his review. Amy has also become one of my favorite Hallmark actresses. She was great in this one! I also thought she and Michael had believable chemistry. Nice and not forced. For the most part, I enjoyed the movie but I didn't love it. It had a handful of tied, over used plot lines and I honestly wish they would get Mistletoe right! Mistletoe has white berries! That is a pet-peeve of mine. Sorry!
Delete'Who's coming for Christmas?' is such a wonderful and heartwarming movie. The idea of gathering 8 different people around a Christmas table, creating a small community, giving hope, comfort, warmth. I especially liked how Julie acted as if she already had the list of all those people. Because faith is when you don't see it but you still believe.
ReplyDelete'A Very Arctic Christmas' is a really great movie. Father-daughter relationship is so beautiful. Their closeness. Their traditions.
The people God gave and gives us. Our families, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ. It is more valuable than any other things. I like it when a movie makes you think about such important things.
I also wanted to ask if it is OK to put a peayer request here. If you have it in your hearts, please pray for Ukraine. The war here is so cruel and terrible, so many victims, destruction, so much hurt, so many wounds. Our children are dreaming not of Christmas but of sky without missiles. We just want peace. Thank you so much. May God bless all of you!
~Oksanka~
Oksanka, Absolutely, sweetie, you can ask for prayer here. Please always feel free to do so. I cannot even begin to imagine what you all are going through on a daily basis. I'm heartbroken to know all that you've been through, so many losses. You all have been on my heart since this terrible war began; I will certainly keep praying for peace for you all and your country.
DeleteSo sweet of you to also share these beautiful reviews. God bless you, honey, and your family!
Net, thank you so much! You moved me to tears. This means world to us. We thank you for all your prayers for us! May God bless you and your loved ones abundantly!
Delete~Oksanka~
Praying for you Oksanka and Ukraine! I cannot even imagine what life is like there- makes me really put things into perspective, when you reflect on what others are going through. Praying for peace and God’s protection 🙏

Paula, thank you so much!
Delete~Oksanka~
Oksanka, it breaks my heart to think of what you and the children of Ukraine are going through right now. Please know that I am lifting you up in prayer for protection, comfort, and an end to this cruel war. We join you in praying for a peaceful sky and safety for your beautiful country. May God bless you and keep you safe.
DeleteAbigail, thank you so much for your prayers!
DeleteI'm so grateful to everyone who has opened their hearts to pray for us! May God bless all of you!

Who;s Coming for Christmas is my favorite for this year so far. It was such a sweet, wholesome movie. Rhiannon was perfect for this role and the storyline was (finally) somewhat unique. It felt almost like a classic old movie to me.
ReplyDeleteA Very Arctic Christmas was also really good! Great actors, though I still am not a fan of Jill's shorter cut, but that's personal preference! The daughter looked a little like Cameron's real-life daughter and it made me think that'd be fun someday for them to do! But this actress was really very talented, they had great connection as father/daughter.
A Danish Christmas--really enjoyed this also! Emile is one of my favorites, I think she is so natural and talented. I loved the setting and all the Christmas-y decor, traditions, sweet family relationships. It had some depth, humor and sweetness. I always appreciate when there is more than just all happy/ light romance.
"'A Very Arctic Christmas" - Overall I liked this one. Some great scenes between Cameron and his daughter. I thought he had decent chemistry with Jill but not great chemistry. I did think both Jill and Cameron did a nice job in their respective roles. I was not happy with the first issue represented since it was 'yet again' and over used storyline. However, the movie got much better after that and I found myself smiling and laughing and eventually getting a bit misty-eyed at one point. Joan

Recommend? Once again, it depends -
I have said this before, but I consider Jill Wagner to be the best Hallmark/GAF actress around - In everything I have seen of hers, she never looks like she is acting. And I consider Cameron Mathison to be among the best, if not the best, Hallmark/GAF actor around. And their performances in this do not disappoint at all! And kudos to Maya Rose Skabar in her role - I am not familiar with her, but she was wonderful as the daughter.
But unfortunately, just like with Adopting St. Nick, I had problems outside of the acting. While the storyline here isn't that bad, there were things that turned me off and therefore make me unable to highly recommend it. Specifically (Spoiler Alerts)...
* I didn't like how they made Cameron's character and his behavior so childish, especially in the beginning. Afraid to go the arctic because of the cold? Because of polar bears? The daughter seemed to be so much more mature than he was here.
* I found it odd that the daughter, who really wanted to experience the arctic, would rather go to a movie with the young guy than go and see the Northern Lights. I mean, it would have made a lot more sense for her to say to him, "Instead of the movie, can we go see the Northern Lights together?".
* And then what really shocked me (and turned me off) was how she tells her dad that she is not leaving with him but staying behind. For someone who until then showed nothing but love to her father, this seemed so out of character and cold. Not to mention that she tells him this while he is standing in the hallway, after knocking on her door to see if she is ready to leave. Oh, and then she closes the door on his face! It would have been much more in character for her to go to his door and tell him that she has something she wants to discuss with him. That maturity she showed earlier...gone.
Maybe it's being nitpicky, but when a person does things that don't match their character, it makes it difficult for me to find the whole movie believable, and in turn, enjoyable. So once again, if you want to watch three really great performances, thumbs up. But if you also want a thoroughly believable story, sorry, thumbs down.
I agree in a way with your comments about Cameron‘s character. However, I don’t think it’s necessarily the way in which he was portrayed in the writing, although that’s certainly a part of it. I think it comes from Cameron‘s tendency to over, animate his acting. He doesn’t do it all the time, but sometimes he just is two over the top with his expressions and that doesn’t work for me. Especially at the end where he’s on TV live from the Arctic in what should be sort of a heartwarming, standup, it just falls flat.
Delete"A Danish Christmas" - Well, I am sorry to say we did not love this one. My gosh we wanted to because we normally enjoy Emilie and Corey. However, we did not feel they had any chemistry together which was surprising. We also felt the storyline just plodded along and did not hold our interest. The location was absolutely gorgeous and it was liked learning about Danish Christmas traditions. Emilie was breathtaking. She is seriously beautiful and we both could feel her happiness in being back in her native country and hometown. But, sadly it was not enough to inspire us to finish the movie.

I have not cared for most of the international destination Christmas movies over the years. Most of them come off like a travelogue - "Come here and see this, and do this, and eat this"...and so on, with the plot being secondary and usually run-of-the-mill.
And that is how I felt with this one. Nice scenery and all, but I could not get into the storyline which I found boring. It also seemed to jump around a lot, probably because they were trying to show you so many aspects of, well, a Danish Christmas. So, you really won't miss much if you skip this one. But at least I now have an understanding of "hygge"!
Mark, I felt the same way. I love Emelie and did like the movie, but I was like there is way too much packed in here about Danish Christmas. So many times I had to read cause they were speaking in Danish. I fell asleep thru parts of it, and it just seemed like it was one big ad for Danish Christmas.
DeleteI did love Emelie husband Kyle was in it. I think the upclose AI snowflakes really drove me nuts when they were outside in some parts. It looked like one of those projectors moving snow drops around in front of the actors. It was distracting. But I loved seeing the sites and Emelie but it was not the best movie.
I am not a fan of those international movies. I love Lacey but haven't watched any of hers. The only ones I do are the island summer movies. I just do not care much for other countries stories.

ReplyDeleteThis movie started off so cute, but I agree with the other reviews. It was a lot happening at once. I am not too familiar with the female lead, but I always enjoy Michael Rady and they were sweet together. The daughter was so stinkin cute, as well as “Santa”. I love when he makes an appearance in Christmas movies, reminds me of the older ones. But you know one thing I can say about these movies is- many times I’ll watch a new movie and I won’t really care for it or I say it was a “one time watch” but then the next year or two it will play as a Christmas rerun and I’ll give it a chance and enjoy it so much more. Does anyone else have that happen? I don’t know if I’m judging too hard since I know I have a lot of movies to get through? But for so many years now I have watched movies from past Christmases that I thought I didn’t care for, or I skipped entirely, and then I end up loving them! So who knows what I’ll think about many of these movies in years to come….
~Paula
Not usually, but that happened for .e with the first Destined For Christmas movie.
