But can Riley help her before another murder occurs?

Movie Review:

πŸ”Ž "I streamed this movie through Pureflix, which may or may not have edited some of the content. What I saw was a mystery fairly equivalent to any Hallmark Movies & Mysteries type film. The actress who played Gabby's best friend was really perky and fun throughout the movie. Also, the mystery part of the movie was intriguing and the romance part was sweet." ~Net

Looks like we have some interesting choices this weekend for Christmas movie viewing. I'm still unsure about "A Cozy Christmas Inn" and the whole meaning behind creating this movie. I may be just curious enough to watch it. Maybe.

I'm definitely planning to watch/record both Great American Family movies, "Catering Christmas" and "Christmas Lovers Anonymous." I'm also hoping "Jolly Good Christmas" is good, because I've loved all of Will Kemp's previous Hallmark movies. In case you haven't heard, Will Kemp just recently signed an exclusive deal with Hallmark, along with Erin Cahill, whose new Christmas movie this weekend, "Christmas Bedtime Stories," also looks like a heartwarming story.

Please share your thoughts on the new Christmas movie premieres in comments below.

Disclaimer: Please know when I share a movie, this is NOT an endorsement of any of the actors involved, personally or professionally, with their other TV/film projects.

Please note: I haven't pre-screened the new Christmas movies airing this weekend. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments. Thank you to everyone who participates in this.

You can see the Christmas movie reviews from last weekend's premieres - *here*!

Joyous Blessings to You All, Net

  1. Catering Christmas just sounds like a remake of Best Christmas Party Ever. Also, I’m not at all into the Ghost of Christmas Always. I never liked the plots where some “spirit” or “angel” came to help someone falls in love with them and decides to remain on earth. So strange! I’m disappointed to read Will Kemp and Erin Cahill signed exclusively with Hallmark.

    1. Same here! It always makes me uncomfortable to see Angel actors, especially on secular channels(also when their female, there is no such thing). As a Christian though, if I died and was in heaven with my Savior, I would desperately no want to go back to this fallen world. :) If only Hallmark could have Christmas values again. Our country and Presidents as well.πŸ™

  2. I was excited when I saw a new mystery coming out, but disappointed when I saw it was just an acquired one that I’d already seen on PureFlix. Squeaky Clean Mystery was intriguing to my memory. Kept turning from one suspect to another, although obvious by the end who must’ve done it. The friend did add some fun to the movie and the lead actors were pretty good as well.

  3. There's a lot of uncertainty about this weekend's programme.

I think we're all wondering how A Cozy Christmas Inn is going to play out but I don't have a good feeling about it.

The synopsis doesn't really tell us much about Ghosts Of Christmas Always so what's it all about?

Also how will Christmas Bedtime Stories end? - I note the husband is MIA - presumed dead - again they haven't really told us much about the dynamics of the leads has the wife met a new partner or does the husband turn up alive?

Squeaky Clean Mysteries looks good for a watch and the two best looking movies - on paper anyway - are Catering Christmas and Jolly Good Christmas.

Will be interested to see others' opinion on Christmas Lovers Anonymous, typical Rom.Com, Net liked it but it's not one I would want to watch again.

    1. Florence... Just to be clear... I've seen Squeaky Clean Mysteries: Hazardous Duty through Pureflix, and I thought it was an interesting mystery. It's not award-winning, but still an entertaining watch.

I wasn't sure by your last sentence if you meant I had seen "Christmas Lovers Anonymous." I haven't seen that one, yet.

  4. Catering Christmas is a must watch for me. Hallmark's Saturday and Sunday offerings look okay, but I'm still going to wait a bit juuuust to make sure they're actually clean. HMM's looks nice.
UP TV, I'll record, but whether or not I'll watch will depend on if I'm not too busy with Christmas movies. -Maria

  5. I am very excited for Catering Christmas. I love Daniel Lissing and Merritt Patterson! I’m also looking forward to the mystery movie on UP. I miss new mystery movies being on often.

It is also heartwarming to see the actors on Great American Family share so much about the channel and their love for it. Bill Abbott is creating something special!

  6. A COZY CHRISTMAS INN: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

The Gist: Jodie Sweetin plays Erika, a big city real estate exec whose boss Sharon (Vivica A. Fox) gives her a very important mission: fly to Alaska & convince the owner of the Garland Inn to sell the cozy getaway to her. There’s just one major wrinkle in Sharon’s plan: Erika’s ex-boyfriend not only lives in Garland, he owns the Garland Inn! And this offer couldn’t come at a better time for Andy (David O’Donnell); tourism in Garland is dead and the inn can barely attract one couple at a time. Adding more pressure to the scenario is Andy’s dad Frank (Brian Doyle-Murray), who wants his son to sell so he can hurry up and join the family shipping business. Will Andy cave and sell the inn? Will big city Erika be won over by Garland’s small-town charm? And more importantly: will Erika and Andy pick up where they left off all those years ago?

Sidenote: A Cozy Christmas Inn is the sequel to the 2014 Hallmark movie Christmas Under Wraps… which starred Sweetin’s TV sister Candace Camerone Bure. David O’Donnell, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Page Petrucka all reprise their roles — but don’t worry about being lost if you haven’t seen Christmas Under Wraps. For example, I have not seen Christmas Under Wraps, nor did I know this was a sequel, and I wasn’t lost for a second.

  9. I can't wait to see "Christmas Bedtime Stories" and Jolly Good Christmas.

I love Daniel Lissings as well! Miss seeing him in his red serge. Along with his dog Rip. (Speaking of WCTH, Season 9 is now available to buy)

Hoping to see Squeaky Clean Mysteries too!I love the Christian book series. I don't have UPTV, so hoping it'll be on YouTube soon or eventually on DVD.

  10. I would like to see A Cozy Christmas Inn which I believe is a sequel to Christmas Under Wraps. Christmas Under Wraps is one of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies of all time.

  11. Looks like a few winners in there.

  12. A Cozy Christmas Inn is family friendly. I was nervous going into it in regards to it being a sequel to Candace’s Christmas Under Wraps, but I really enjoyed it and I’m just going to pretend that they are two separate stories. 😊

    1. Glad to hear it's family-friendly! It's so laughably bizarre that Hallmark torched the storyline from "Christmas Under Wraps!" I'll definitely be following your lead and just pretending this new movie is a separate story whenever I watch. :-)

    2. I'm so conflicted, I don't know whether to watch this movie, or not. Hah! Such heavy problems I have! I love Candace but, unlike others on here, I was never a huge fan of the "Christmas Under Wraps" movie so I don't think I'd feel like I was betraying her or my first Hallmark movie love. πŸ˜„ I'm also not a huge fan of Jodie Sweetin or the lead actor. So... what to do, what to do?? It's on the dvr so maybe one day I'll watch it. Good to know it's family friendly -- there is that positive outlook. I'm still upset that "We Wish You a Married Christmas" and "Jolly Good Christmas" were both busts (and that Will Kemp was faking an American accent!)! This all makes me want to go read a book instead of watching movies. But I guess there's no time for book reading - I need to keep up with the dvr before November hits and we get like 30 movies every weekend!! 🀣🀣

  13. A Cozy Christmas Inn is family friendly. It’s a sequel to Christmas Under Wraps. Real Estate Executive Erika MacNicoll’s Boss named Sharon Farris in Seattle. Erika talks to Stephanie who owned Restaurant when Andy was dating that doctor as referred to Dr. Lauren Brunell. Erika ahead to Garland, Alaska to Garland Inn to meet up with Claire. She finds out Garland Inn owned by her ex-boyfriend named Andrew “Andy” Holliday. Andy shows Erika The Alaska Volcano Observatory to look up the stars⭐️ 🌟 ⭐️. Andy gets Erika space registry to name Star after her as a Christmas gift. Andy & Erika do Christmas Mixer, by adding coffee & tea cafe at the Garland Inn. Some yummy cappuccino. Erika is such a genius. Andy tells Erika about that he & Lauren haven’t keep in touch each other. Frank Holliday tells his Son, Andy that Garland Inn is his. Garland Inn is to keep its belong to Andy’s. Andy’s Cousin Joy works at his Dad; Frank Holliday at Holliday Shipping Family Company. Erika meets Ed, Oscar, Alanna, Taxi & Reporter, & Real Estate Developer. Erika is staying at Andy’s Mother named Faith Holiday. Erika gets Andy a frame of Garland Reaches for the Stars by check in front desk for Andy gonna run Garland Inn. It’s not for sale. Although Erika quits her job to be with Andy if he’ll still have her. There’s Santa Claus with reindeers by saying HO HO HO! Merry Christmas! Frank Holliday is Santa Claus.

  14. The fact that Hallmark would actually spit on their highest rated Christmas of all time gives me more then enough reason to not watch that embarrassment of a 'sequel'. VERY bad move, Hallmark, you should be wholly ashamed of yourselves! Andy belongs with Lauren, not his nasty ex!! -Maria

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nasty?? I taped it but haven't watched it yet. I don't want to watch it if she's really evil or something. Can you be more specific and let us know in what way was she nasty in the movie? Thanks

      Delete
    2. She’s not nasty. They broke up because he left Seattle to go back to Garland. It is disappointing they made the couple in Christmas under wraps not work out. I’m not sure if this was to do a dis on Candace leaving Hallmark or if they wanted to do a sequel and had to do something different because Candace left Hallmark. The movie was cute to watch once for me.

      Delete
    3. I didn't watch it, and I'm sure she's very nice. I was just a bit upset while typing that. Excusies. -Maria

    4. I would never watch anything with Jodie sweeten. She is pro choice. She just attended a rally last month. She is the total opposite of Candice Cameron Bure.

      Delete
    5. Yes Ken, unfortunately she is very liberal and pro abortion. It's very sad. Keep praying for her. She needs saving.

      Delete
  15. Christmas Under Wraps was the very first new Hallmark Christmas movie I ever watched when I first started watching Hallmark movies, that makes it very special to me. And seeing what Hallmark did with that so called 'sequel', filming it while Candace was still at Hallmark and not even bothering to let her be in it, makes me very angry! It's their highest rated Christmas movie of all time, and this is how they treat it?! -Maria

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's a good point Maria, I wonder if it was offered to her, and if it was, maybe she turned it down because of her plans for gac Family??? Still still stinks though, even if it was before Lauren. That means one or the other didn't work out. Whoever did the writing on this truly messed up.

      Delete
    2. Maria, Christmas Underwraps isn't going to be Hallmarks highest rated movie of all time for long. Three Wise Men And A Baby is going to knock that movie off its pedestal once it premieres. Three Wise Men And A Baby even made the news, all the behind the scene videos Tyler was posting. And this is the biggest movie Hallmark fans could ever ask for so I can guarantee it will be Hallmarks highest rated movie of all time in a few weeks

      Delete
    3. Not if Paul Campbell is in it. Won’t even bother to watch. Wouldn’t count your chickens yet.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous, but do we really expect it to be family-friendly? No!

      Delete
    5. Um, no hallmark movie will ever beat Christmas under wraps cause hallmark hasn't even broke 2 million for Christmas and I am certain we probably won't even get any much over 3 million let alone as high as Christmas under wraps. Im sure 3 wise men will be good, but hallmark doesn't get anywhere near what they used to for movies cause many have checked out cause hallmark is woke and ridiculous.

      Sabrina

      Delete
    6. Sorry but I will confidently predict that Three Wise Men And A Baby will get nowhere near the number of viewers that Christmas Under Wraps did.

You do tend to assume that if Paul Campbell is in the cast the movie will not be family- friendly but surprisingly Dating The Delaneys was.

And it was also an excellent movie - Florence

    7. I’m just one voice and don’t mean to really influence others. There is such an abundance of Christmas movies, so when I try to make choices, it’s not just storylines but also actors or actresses that are part of the choice. If someone chooses to push an agenda that’s contrary to my beliefs, then I’m more apt to skip a movie they are in, no matter how good it may seem to be. Just thinking out loud.

  20. Christmas Under Wraps is in my top 5 favorite Hallmark Christmas movies (others include Crown for Christmas, Return to Christmas Creek, Let it Snow, and The Christmas Secret). That said, I felt it was a dig at CCB. C'mon, those of us who know CUW KNOW that Lauren and Andy were meant to be together! Their chemistry was perfect, while I found Andy and Erika's chemistry to be sorely lacking. And I did not for one moment believe that had a previous romantic relationship. I also found it strange that Jodi Sweetin (not a fave of mine) actually starred in this "sequel." I really wanted to like it, but I truly felt Lauren fell in love with Garland just as much as she did Andy, and never would have left.

  21. Reading early Tweets for Jolly Good Christmas (I was actually taping this to watch later), and sadly, the boss is gay. Shameful, I was actually looking forward to this because British stuff is hardly woke. But I guess even on Hallmark, that doesn't matter. -Maria

  22. Also, I so wish I had GAC but my carrier, Verizon, refuses to add it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can add Frndly TV for as low as 6.99 and it carries GAC Family

      Delete
    2. Savvy Girl, I also have Verizon and they really frustrate me! They carry the Great American Living channel but not the GAFamily channel. Not sure what will happen this year but last year they ran some of the Christmas movies on GALiving but I missed taping most of them because it was never clear when they would run them (I ended up taping way too many episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies!); oftentimes movies would come on the following week or two and maybe at 6pm instead of the normal 8pm. So keep a lookout and you may get to dvr some of them?? It all frustrated me enough that I finally signed up for the FrndlyTV app on my ipad just to watch the GAF Christmas movies. I used to run a cable from the ipad to the tv but I just recently bought Roku sticks for my tv's which makes it all much easier to watch Frndly on a larger screen without the cord. I've kept my FrndlyTV subscription for the whole year but I'm pretty sure you can cancel at any time if all you want to watch are the Christmas movies. Frndly is a little clunkier to operate than Verizon and it's not as easy to fast forward and skip the commercials, but it certainly can be done. Just carefully check the different package plans. I think with the cheapest $6.99 plan there might not be a dvr option (??) but you can maybe watch "on demand" or with the "72 hour lookback" options if you missed a movie. I think with the middle-priced package you definitely get dvr option. I went with the highest $10.99 plan just so I could keep my recorded movies for a longer time.

  24. I watched “Catering Christmas” and “Christmas Bedtime Stories.” Both were family friendly. “Catering Christmas” was absolutely delightful and if you are a fan of “Anne of Avonlea” with Megan Follows you’ll recognize Aunt Jean as Katherine the Principal of the Kingsport Ladies College where Anne taught. So fun to see her again. I wasn’t a fan of the paring of Erin Cahill with Steve Lund in “Christmas Bedtime Stories,” but the story was good and *possible spoiler alert* has a surprise ending. I also shed some tears.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm a bit divided on Christmas Bedtime Stories. Yeah, it's clean, and very sweet. But that ending, well. It kind of made the whole thing a bit pointless considering it was promoted as 'trying to move on from a loss', then it turned out to not be that. I have a special love for these military type of movies, probably stems from having both grandfathers on my parents's sides having served in the military, but this one, just doesn't really feel right. -Maria

    1. Just saw something really disgusting: I saw a photo on Twitter from Christmas Bedtime Stories of a scene near the end (I think) that lasted a mere few seconds: A small boy dressed as a girl. Not kidding, Hallmark actually became even more disgusting with this move. -Maria

      Delete
    2. I just re-watched that part over and over to make sure. To me it goes so fast, I couldn't tell. A lot of girls have hairstyles like that now(not LGBT ones). I have some close Christian friends with similar styles. But if Hallmark did that on purposes, it wouldn't surprise me. It's one thing to show us the adults, but children! Shame on those parents. God help our country.πŸ™

      Delete
    3. Concerned, I checked the father-daughter dance scene closely but really don't think there's enough to merit the assumption that the young girl is not actually a girl. To me, the little girl looks cute, rather like Julie Andrews! Anyway, in my view, "Bedtime Christmas Stories" is family-friendly and had some sweet moments and potential, but I failed to be completely charmed because the storyline felt rushed.

      Merry Christmas, everybody!

      ~Alicia

    4. Yes, I just re-watched the ending too, and I agree with Alicia - it seems that this person could definitely be a girl. And Maria, I agree with your opinion on the movie. Aside from it being a bit too serious of a Christmas movie for my liking, the ending seemed rushed and contrived and going against the point of the movie of dealing with loss.

  36. Ghosts of Christmas Past is definitely not clean. From what I'm reading, 1 of the ghosts might be 'non binary', and it sounds like someone gets high. Plus, this whole movie just looks really dumb. Can't believe I actually decided to tape this. -Maria

  37. "Ghosts of Christmas Always" -- Family-friendly unless something happened during the few minutes I missed. πŸ™‚ On the whole, I found it to be quirky and entertaining; just don't think too hard! Be prepared to accept the fantasy of it. I found it to be a fun twist on Dickens with delightful leads and heart-warming redemption of all scroogey-ness.

  39. I haven't started watching the Christmas Movies yet it's a little early. However I am taping them and then deleting the ones people have shared as not family-friendly. So far this week seems to only have the one as not family-friendly Jolly Good Christmas. Last week I ended up deleting 2 of the Hallmark movies after reading the comments. As to A Cozy Inn Christmas I am really torn about watching this one. I love Christmas Under Wraps and don't like the sound of the sequel. I think I will do what others have said and treat it as it's own movie instead of thinking of it as a sequel. I have taped it but I am waiting to watch it. I know that if you dvr a movie or show and watch it within the first 7 days it counts towards the viewing data. If this was Hallmark taking a swipe at Candance I don't want them to have that viewing number. Thanks everyone who is ready for Christmas movies for sharing what has been family friendly. ~ Laura

  45. Christmas Bedtime Stories

I really enjoyed this movie. I liked her relationship with the army town and how close like family they were. I felt bad for Pierce, but it was handled well at the end. And Erin did an amazing job acting the emotional scenes. The plot was so sweet and so was the ending when she sees her husband, the love of her life. I cried.

One more thing though, when Danielle says "Family is what Christmas is all about."... was I the only one that said Jesus Christ. Ahh, if they only knew. I'm so grateful all of us here share the love of our Lord. God bless you all and happy Reformation Day!

  49. Christmas Bedtime Stories is family friendly about Danielle was left to raise her Daughter named Audrey when her Husband named Colby goes MIA and is presumed dead during a military deployment overseas. Three years later, she has made great progress with moving on and has recently become engaged to an old friend, Pierce Hammond. Audrey begins to ask questions about her Dad when she learns of an upcoming father-daughter dance at school and she is feeling out of place.

Danielle begins to tell Audrey bedtime stories of her father, which becomes a ritual; Audrey is rapt each night and through her mother’s memories is able to envision her father as a flesh-and-blood hero. As Danielle tells Audrey these stories, she starts to see signs that leave her feeling unsettled about Colby. On Christmas Eve, Danielle and Audrey go to the dance together, all while Danielle continues to question why her love for Pierce doesn’t feel the same as her love for Colby – if only there was a sign.

    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Keeper? Absolutely Not! -

Much of what I was going to say has already been said by Net, Savvy Girl and Florence. There are so many things wrong with this movie - the town doesn't look anything like it did in Christmas Under Wraps (CUW), they never reference or show the hospital where Candace worked (or have any of the staff appear), the continuous saying of "That's Garland for you", and so much more. But worst of all, yes, this movie seems like a dig at Candace and CUW! I mean, saying that she left Garland because of a fellowship in the same year that she arrived there, just contradicts the main storyline of CUW of Lauren putting the town and its people, and her relationship with Andy, above her career aspirations! As far as I am concerned, this sequel doesn't exist, and I will continue to watch CUW and assume that life goes on with Lauren and Andy.

    1. Mark, 100%. I LOVE CUW and Lauren and Andy are perfect together. Since when does this sort of break up happen? It never would have in the "old" HM days. It would have been a great sequel if CCB was in it. I'll do the same--this "sequel" doesn't exist and Lauren and Andy are now officially Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

    2. Mark 25 and Savvy Girl...

With the way they treated "Christmas Under Wraps" in "A Cozy Christmas Inn," it makes me wonder if they might do the same with another movie we love, which got me to thinking about "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
Maybe, they'll do a sequel and Morgan ends up leaving for the chef job, after all, and ends up with... Morning Mist!!!! YIKES!!!! Wouldn't that be awful??? YEEESSS!!!!

That would be no different than how they just destroyed "Christmas Under Wraps" happy love story. I mean, if Lauren never went back, then that would mean - she didn't follow her heart, after all. The story is essentially useless.

I'm not even a big fan of "Christmas Under Wraps" to begin with, but I still find this to be extremely wrong - in so many ways. I'm so glad you all feel the same.

I'll try to forget about "A Cozy Christmas Inn," but it's kinda hard to do.

    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Keeper? No -

This movie just seemed like a cheap rip-off of You've Got Mail (except the leads are no Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan). The main problem I had is that the story takes place in a very small town, yet it never occurs to anyone that Santa's Little Helper and Jolly Soul are the same people as the main characters. I mean, there was even a hint about a broken Santa figurine that was completely missed! Also, without mentioning names, some of the acting by the cast was terrible! Not a GAF winner for me.

    2. True, but both movies involve two people corresponding online, not knowing the other person is someone who they have met but do not initially care for, but who they gradually grow to like throughout the movie. And of course at the end they find out that the two persons are one and the same. While in You've Got Mail it made sense that they wouldn't know this until well into the movie, here they should have at least considered it early on if not figuring it out.

    3. Jolly Good Christmas

JDidn't really know what to expect of this movie.

Will Kemp, of course, is remembered for the enchanting Christmas Waltz but I hadn't heard of Reshma Shetty before.

Right from the start you could feel the amazing chenistry between David and Anji although Will's American accent was a bit off-putting - I don't think him being American particularly added anything to the story.

The movie was filmed in London so the setting was authentic and it was good to see so many familiar landmarks.

I felt there was a lot of depth to the movie, the dialogue was to the point and witty and the situations were entertaining if perhaps a little OTT!

David's girl-friend was stiff and lacking in emotion.

I particularly enjoyed the glimpses into Anji's Indian heritage and it was nice the way they portrayed her parents with upper-class British accents and running a pub!

It was just unfortunate that they decided to include a gay couple as David's best friends but they didn't take up overmuch screen time and I could live with this - unfrotunately, of course, this means that many here won't watch this movie which is sad as it is well worth an airing.

One particularly pleasing aspect was a superb ending - something which Hallmark often fails to provide now.

There was no ambiguity and the short "one year later" clip gave the feeling of permanence which sadly I don't feel is the norm now.

If only they had given the same thought to the ending of Christmas Waltz instead of the shoddy one they employed it could have been the best Hallmark Christmas movie ever.

If the rest of Hallmark's Christmas output is anywhere near this standard then it's going to be a great Season and it's removed a little of the bad taste left in my mouth after A Cozy Christmas Inn.

Florence's rating 9 - could have been a rare 10 but for the inclusion of the gay couple.
