During the season finale of "When Calls the Heart," a new Christmas in July movie was announced for the Hallmark Channel titled: "My Grown Up Christmas List" and will star two "When Calls the Heart" actors: Kevin McGarry ("The Wedding Veil") and Kayla Wallace ("Feeling Butterflies")! The movie is scheduled to premiere Saturday, July 16, 2022! Kevin and Kayla make such a cute couple in real-life and on screen. The two previously starred in "Feeling Butterflies" on the Hallmark Channel together.
Kayla Wallace shared the image above from the movie on their last day of filming back in December. For some reason, I had a hunch this might be a Christmas in July possibility, and I'm excited to see a new Christmas movie in the middle of July! Hope it ends up being a fun one. A 15 second preview was shown (pictures screen-grabbed in top images above), highlighting both Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace in the movie. Kevin is shown wearing military fatigues in the promo, so it looks like this will be a patriotic movie, as well. Too bad it's not premiering before the 4th of July.
As for the season finale of "When Calls the Heart," I thought it was a lovely, heartwarming way end to this 9th season.
(SPOILERS AHEAD - if you haven't seen it, yet)
My TWO absolute favorite moments were Henry praying with Joseph and Rosemary telling Lee about the baby! For once, Lee was even more expressive than Rosemary! What a wonderful, memorable moment! One couldn't help from feeling pure joy in Lee finding out he is going to be a father. And Henry getting down on his knees to pray with Joseph in his jail cell was such an impactful moment, as well as Florence's whispered apology and sweet kiss on the cheek. My heart broke for Henry when he said he didn't know how to pray. Tears filled my eyes. The subtle way Henry's character has developed through the years has been beautiful to see. His future was definitely left with great uncertainty. In fact, there were many questions left unanswered with Bill, Molly, Nathan, Faith, and Mei.
Will there be a Season 10? A big announcement, I hear, is coming today! So... let's hope for more stories in Hope Valley! Stay tuned!

I'm quite hopeful about My Grown Up Christmas List although I must be the only person here who wasn't bowled over by Feeling Butterflies - Florence
ReplyDeleteSo excited for a Christmas in July movie, a new movie again this year. I have always enjoyed the christmas in july movies, back to when Lacey Family For Christmas, and then A Perfect Christmas, and Christmas Cure, and Home for Christmas Day. It is always exciting getting to see a new movie in July.

If My Grown-Up Christmas List is anything like the song, then this could be a touching movie, since the grown-up Christmas list of the song includes no more wars, healed hearts, and everyone having a friend. (If anyone is not familiar with the song, may I suggest listening to Amy Grant's version, which might be the original version.)
ReplyDeleteMark 25, I also recall the Amy Grant version best! Out of curiosity, I looked it up and it was actually originally released by Natalie Cole in 1990, but didn't receive much attention on her non-holiday album.
DeleteAccording to ChristmasTimeTV, "In 1992, Amy Grant recorded a version for her second holiday album, Home for Christmas. Grant's version featured altered lyrics and an additional verse that Grant penned herself. Her record label at the time, A&M Records, promoted the song as the second single from the album, and it received substantially more radio airplay than the original version."
So… that’s why we remember Amy Grant’s version! She’s the one who made the song popular. Now I’m wondering… which part of the song did she write??? Hmmm???
Thanks for doing some digging on this, Net! I had no idea Natalie Cole ever recorded this song. Amy's was the first version I ever heard, and like you said, many others have since recorded it. But Amy's version will always be my favorite. Now, I will have to see if I can find Natalie's version - this should help us determine what lyrics Amy wrote. Time to put my Sherlock hat on!
DeleteWell, that took less time than I thought! In comparing Natalie's and Amy's versions, it appears that Amy wrote the verse that begins with "As children we believe" and ends with "Can never heal a hurting human soul", that we can see from the lyrics that Anonymous provided below.
DeleteMark 25 (AKA, Sherlock!) - Thank you for looking into that further for us!
DeleteThat is a beautiful verse Amy Grant added to the song. I sure hope they include the full song in the movie, somehow. All the words are full of deep meaning.
Woohoo!!! A new Christmas movie coming in July!!! Kevin looks good in uniform. Looking forward to hearing more about this.
ReplyDeleteWill we see any Candace Cameron Bure Christmas movies on Hallmark Channel or Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in 2022?
ReplyDeleteChris, We won't see any NEW Christmas movies with Candace on Hallmark, but they will still be airing all of her past ones.
DeleteMy Grown Up Christmas List by Kelly Clarkson
ReplyDeleteDo you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
As children we believe
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree
But Heaven only knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
What is this illusion called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown up Christmas list
Yes, many artists have sung this song. Kelly Clarkson is one of the latest to make it popular again.
DeleteThank you for sharing these beautiful lyrics!

Jim, Glad to hear you enjoyed the WCTH finale, too! There were so many incredible, heartfelt moments.
ReplyDeleteI think we all had some likes & dislikes throughout the season. That's typical. But that finale spoke to so many hearts. I pray Henry's prayer for forgiveness truly touches those who feel unworthy and lost and in need of a Savior.
Yes, it was soooo exciting to see that Christmas movie preview during the show! Did you notice they had the title "My Grown Up Christmas List" at the bottom of the screen before the commercial? I was thrilled as soon as I saw that!
Wow! What an heartfelt special episode!!! It was wonderful and precious!❤️
ReplyDeleteI balled my eyes out when Henry said he didn’t know how to pray, and then he gets down on his knees. I couldn’t help praying for the actors during the scene for salvation. If they only knew the important words they were saying.
When Rosemary told Lee he was going to be a father, I cried, laughed, and practically bouncing on my bed. What a sweet scene. Probably the sweetest I’ve ever seen. Better than I could have imagined. Good job John Tinker!!! And when she felt the flutters....awwww!
And the proposal scene was so precious. I cried when baby Jack hands the ring to Elizabeth and when Lucas asks to be Jack’s father.
What a wonderful end to the season. Hoping for a Season 10!
And when Lucas said he was the richest man, I cried some more. 😂😂
Abigail I wholeheartedly agree with your comment.
DeleteChris McNally and the little actor who plays Jack are a joy to see. I also get the feeling that several responses by little Jack are not scripted. Lots of connection between the two buddies. I teared up when Lucas asked if he could be Jack's father.
The jail scene with Joseph and Henry made me cry. I truly believe that Henry's charachter felt godly sorrow.
Lee running around elated & in his p.j.s was so cool and brought me joy. Apparently Mei Tsu was cleared of wrong-doing, so Nathan and Mei have a chance to biuld a relationship. As Faith said, she wasn't ready to get married.
I hope that Bill gets well because he's a much needed character.

ReplyDeleteYour comment about Joseph praying with Henry was spot on. During these troubled times for such a powerful scene to occur on a much-watched program is certainly a message to everyone. PRAY!
It is a wonderful series that I hope will be continued.
Take care.
Gabe’s Mom
Gabe's Mom, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on WCTH! That is so true - prayer is the most powerful thing we can do - when times are difficult.
DeleteThank you for sharing that powerful message.
Blessings to you! I'm also still hoping WCTH will continue.
I enjoyed the finale.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Christmas movie, too.
denise
With 12 episodes, I doubt that there will be a Christmas movie just like last time. But I'm still hoping there will be a Christmas movie.
DeleteI was referring to My Grown-Up Christmas Wish
DeleteI would love to see a WCTH Christmas movie!! Wouldn’t a holiday wedding be sweet and Rosemary and Lee could get a Baby’s first Christmas ornament.
DeleteI agree with you about Henry's storyline. I cried when he Joseph brought Henry the Bible and Henry wanted to learn how to pray. It has been great to see the change in Henry over the seasons! Of course it was very funny when Nathan realized he didn't know where Henry so he went to the jail and in comes Henry with a newspaper and puts himself back in the jail cell. Lee's reaction to the pregnancy was also fabulous!
ReplyDeleteKaren, Yes! That moment with Nathan and Henry was too cute. I couldn't help from think of the Andy Griffith Show with Otis, letting himself in and out of the jail cell. That was a cute scene to add in there. Besides being comical, it also showed that Henry is an honest man. He could've fled, but instead, he's staying to face the consequences.
DeleteJim, I did kind-of mention it in a previous post, but it was very vague and at that time we didn't know where or when it would be premiering.
ReplyDeleteI liked that they surprised us with the information during the show instead of putting out the typical press release first. It was fun knowing all of WCTH viewers were finding out together! :)
Excited for the new Christmas movie with Kevin and Kayla. The season finale of WCTH was awesome. So many of the scenes mentioned before were some of my favorites also. I had debated all season about quitting watching after the Season 8 debacle but the finale redeemed the show in my mind and eyes. Glad I stuck with the show. Hope they have more of that caliber show.
ReplyDeleteClara, I had the same thoughts after season 8, as well, and like you, I'm glad I still watched this season. The season 9 finale was truly beautiful, in many ways. Hopefully, Nathan will eventually find love one day, and Henry will find the justice he's been seeking... if they continue on to a season 10???
DeleteI feel that if WCTH is not renewed it ended in a good way so I’ll be happy one way or the other!
ReplyDeleteAww... I know what you mean, but I'm still hoping for Season 10!
DeleteApparently there's 3 (yes THREE) new Christmas movies this July!
ReplyDeleteIn addition to this there's Campfire Christmas starring Tori Anderson and Corbin Bley plus one other whose title hasn't been released yet - Florence
Florence, Yes! That was such a fun, surprise announcement in their Christmas in July promo over Memorial Day weekend! I think Hallmark is really trying to go over-the-top this July.
DeleteI wonder how viewers will respond to it, though? Some really love Christmas, while others feel it's too much, too soon. Should be interesting to see the feedback.
Regardless of what people say on-line, I believe the Christmas movies always pull in the ratings better then anything else, so it will probably be good for them - in that aspect. We'll see!
