Press release from Hallmark's Crown Media:

"THE WAY HOME,"
AN ALL-NEW DRAMA SERIES
TO PREMIERE ON HALLMARK CHANNEL
IN 2023

Greenlit Series Created by Marly Reed, Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke From MarVista Entertainment and Neshama Entertainment

Production Set to Begin This Summer

STUDIO CITY, CA - May 12, 2022 - Hallmark Channel has greenlit an all-new, original primetime series "The Way Home," an intergenerational drama set to begin production this summer in Ontario, Canada. The series will premiere on Hallmark Channel in 2023 with casting announcements planned in the coming weeks. The show is part of Crown Media's commitment to developing quality programming that will resonate with viewers, and is the first new series greenlit under the leadership of Lisa Hamilton Daly. The series is executive produced by the renowned mother-daughter team of Heather Conkie ("Heartland," "Port Hope") and Alexandra Clarke ("Heartland," "Hudson").

"The Way Home" is a family drama following the lives of three generations of women within the Landry family that spans the years through a time travel twist. Kat Landry, her 15-year-old daughter Alice and Kat's estranged mother Del are all strong, willful and independent. More than 20 years prior, lifechanging events created a chasm in their family that time has yet to repair. Kat and Del still aren't on speaking terms. Alice has never met her grandmother and is unaware of the reasons for their fractured family. When the three generations come together under one roof for the first time in more than two decades, a surprising discovery unexpectedly sets the trio on a path toward healing and helps them find their way back to each other.

"One of my passions is developing series and it's beyond thrilling to spearhead the development of 'The Way Home' and others for Crown Media," said Lisa Hamilton Daly, Executive Vice President, Programming, Crown Media Family Networks.

"I can't wait to share the emotional story of the Landry women so beautifully and creatively imagined by Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke and that is sure to become appointment TV for our viewers," remarked Laurie Ferneau, Senior Vice President, Development, Crown Media Family Networks.

"We were all drawn to this extraordinary, unique story of three generations of women, haunted by tragedy and past secrets, who discover an ability to travel through time and potentially change their future," remarked Hannah Pillemer, Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs for MarVista Entertainment. "Lisa and her team at Crown Media have been incredible champions of this series that is sure to charm and enrapture, and we are thrilled to partner with them to bring it to the screen."

Alongside Conkie and Clarke, Larry Grimaldi, Hannah Pillemer, and Fernando Szew will executive produce for MarVista with Arnie Zipursky and Marly Reed executive producing for Neshama.

  1. I'm not sure about this. While it sounds nice, a new show like this on a network that wants to go more woke makes feel uncomfortable of what they might try to do with this. -Maria

  4. Hmmm....I am not big into time travel, but looking forward to see who is cast. Also just afraid of any wokeness, but I think it has potential, and I think this will depend on the cast as well. I'm sure it's costly, but I hope GAC can pull off a series or two.

  5. This might be good but does every Hallmark drama, those in a contemporary setting anyway, have to be about families with past drama issues and family members that are at extreme odds? Much as I enjoyed Chesapeake Shores, the first three years of watching each child deal with their mother leaving when they were children got a wee bit tiresome. Just as I thought everyone had come to terms with it, one of them would start having meltdowns lol. I realize there has to be some drama but it is possible to tell different kinds of stories. But, still, I hope it’s clean and watchable.

  6. Ok so I just reread this and I missed the time travel twist the first time. I have to change my statement that this might be good lol. Time travel is really not very interesting to me.

  9. I have be a fan of your website for YEARS! Love the content, love the joy of christmas you share with us. However, some of these comments about Hallmark being "woke"? Makes me uncomfortable. I'm black. So it's nice to see they are WOKE and adding more black actors.

    1. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful, faithful follower here at It's a Wonderful Movie! I think many people define the term woke differently. I personally consider it to mean a progressive agenda.

I think it's great to see all races represented on TV. For me, woke refers to the content, not the people.

Recently, many of the headlines have said that Disney has "gone woke". It didn't have anything to do with race; instead, it was the way they are trying to indoctrinate children. It makes me sad to think they will no longer greet their visitors with phrases like "welcome boys and girls" or "ladies and gentlemen." I wish it could all return to like it used to be.

Thank you, again, for following here! I so appreciate your visits, and I'm glad to know you enjoy my postings and the incredible joy of Christmas!!! Blessings to you!!! :)

    2. I’ve noticed the media uses the term woke in that same way - referring to people and companies pushing a progressively woke agenda. I think they need to broaden the definition since people use it to mean different things.

  10. What a joy to know God loves us regardless of outward appearances! It isn't race, nationality, color of our skin, our size, how we dress, whether we are beautiful or ugly, short or tall; God loves us all the same. I agree with Net. WOKE is not about race!
