So... how has your week been? I've been busy with my family and doing all sorts of preparations for Christmas. Our weather is so nice, with temps in the 50's to almost 60's during the day and 40's at nights. I can hardly believe it, but since it is so nice, we have a home renovation project coming up this weekend. I'm praying that it all goes smoothly and the guys coming to work will be safe and get the job done efficiently, but quickly, too. Hopefully, between all the hammering, I'll be able to watch a movie or two. Not sure how that will go, but we'll see!
*Please note- I have NOT pre-screened these NEW Christmas movies listed above. If you happen to watch one of the NEW Christmas movies this week and want to share whether or not it is a family friendly movie, please stop back by and leave a review.
You may have noticed, I did not share 2 new movies premiering this weekend above. The first movie is the Hallmark Channel movie - Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday. The second movie in the series, Sister Swap: Christmas in the City, includes a same sex couple. Based on this content and my personal values according to my faith, I have decided not to share either film. The other movie I did not share above is the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Every Time a Bell a Rings. This movie previously premiered on the Hallmark Movies Now streaming source, and I want to inform you this movie will also contain the same sort of content. Thank you, Rebecca and Janet, for sharing this information with us. You can read their reviews - here.
By the way, if you share a movie review this weekend or sometime in December, please know, I will do my best to get it up on the site quickly for others to see. I may not be able to respond to every comment/review, but I am truly grateful and I know many, MANY others are, too!
See the 2021 Christmas Movie Review page - *here*!
You can also check out the Christmas TV Movie Schedule - *here*, which includes NEW Christmas Movie Premieres.
God's Blessings and Merry Christmas, Everyone! Net
“The true light, which gives light to everyone,
was coming into the world.
He was in the world,
and the world was made through Him…”
– John 1:9-10
Hi, Net! Thanks so much for this. I'm on a little Christmas movie mission this year--to view the true classics. This week I have watched Beyond Tomorrow, It Happened on 5th Avenue, and last night's viewing was A Holiday Affair. Not sure yet on my weekend picks but could include Holiday Inn, Shop Around the Corner, A Christmas Carol (1938 version), Little Women (1949 version), An Affair to Remember, and Babes in Toyland (1961 version). So many great movies! I'll let you know how I make out and am happy to provide reviews for these oldies but goodies in case anyone else would like to watch!! Have a great weekend, Net!
ReplyDeleteSavvy Girl, How fun! I love a good classic movie marathon. Christmas is my favorite time of year on TCM!
DeleteIt does seem like the classics get over-looked this time of year, with all the new stuff coming out. I try my best, too, to watch the old treasures - especially It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, Bells of St. Mary's, Meet Me in St. Louis, Tenth Avenue Angel, In the Good Ole Summertime, etc...
I've seen many of them, but I have yet to see An Affair to Remember. I would love to know your thoughts on it and any other movie you would love to share!
Happy watching!!!
Love all the classics playing! It’s a Wonderful Life, It Happened on 5th Avenue, Bishop’s Wife, and Meet Me in St Louis are some of the best! Only missing White Christmas, Christmas in Connecticut, and Shop Around the Corner. There’s also Holiday Affair, Holiday Inn, Bells of St Mary’s, and Miracle on 34th Street (Maureen O’Hara version). Luckily, we have all of the old classics on DVD, so we won’t be missing any of these greats! If you’re not used to watching all these old classics, I highly recommend looking into them! They’re is no comparison between these and the Hallmark stuff the have now. And it will keep you busy for a while!!
ReplyDeleteI agree! The Christmas classics are wonderful! AMC is playing White Christmas this holiday season and TCM has most of the others, but like you, I have most on DVD! You are so right - they are the best! :)
DeleteThe Man Who Came to Dinner is pretty funny too!
DeleteI thought I would mention these notes regarding some movies and a network that have been written about before. “Christmas in Connecticut” is on Friday, 12/10 on AMC. It is the 1992 version. Isn’t there a more recent Hallmark movie with a similar storyline? I would also like to mention the Positv network. They are airing “Christmas Oranges”, “The Christmas Star”, “The Gift of Christmas”, “Christmas Child” starring Steven Curtis Chapman, , “The Perfect Gift”, “Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace”, “An Evergreen Christmas”, “A Christmas Snow””, “The Farmer and the Belle” (2020), The Christmas Project”, “Miracle at Sage Creek”, “Love’s Christmas Journey”, “The Case for Christmas” (2011) with Dean Cain which I think originally aired on Hallmark, “What If”, Christmas with a Capital C”, and “Christmas for a Dollar”, I may have missed one or inadvertently thought one was a Christmas movie when it isn’t. I hope N︃e︃t︃ and the others without this network will be able to have it added to their network lineup soon. Merry Christmas!
DeleteThank you for sharing these movies with us - I sure wish I had the Positv network. Thankfully, I have some of the movies you mentioned on DVD!
DeleteMerry Christmas to you, too! :)
Not thrilled with a lot of the new movies premiering this weekend, so it will give me a chance to catch up on some that premiered over Thanksgiving weekend (and to watch some of the classics - I love The Bishop's Wife!). However, I will definitely catch Jingle Bell Princess, since that has two of my favorite Hallmark actors.
ReplyDeleteMark 25 - Have fun catching up on some missed Christmas movies; I plan to do the same, plus I'm recording the GAC Family movies!
DeleteEnjoy watching!
I'm looking forward to the Jingle Bell Princess. Love anything Trevor Donavan is in. The plot seems sweet as well. Glad it's not Hallmark.
ReplyDeleteI loved GAC Family's last Royal film. Wouldn't it be great if GAC Family started their own line up of mysteries with our favorite actors!??
I hope GAC starts mysteries there too. Looks like Hallmark will stop making them.
DeleteMisty
Abigail & Misty,
DeleteI think that would be fantastic if GAC Family started doing mysteries! And maybe some non-murder style ones that could still be family friendly and non-violent.
Just saw Kelli Martin announce that Hailey Dean will be no more, which is rather sad. Since Danica has the deal with GAC, Matchmaker Mysteries is surely done for good, too.
Another "Aurora Teagarde"n is in the works and hopefully, "Mystery 101" will be back, too. Not sure about the others.
It's very hard to call Hallmark now but after the shock ending to the last Mystery 101 Movie there will be a lot of very unhappy people if there's not another instalment - Florence
DeleteReally? No more Hailey Dean? That's too bad. I kinda suspected it when Fincher joined WCTH, and Monty was in a lot of guest appearances in mysteries.
DeleteI thought the Matchmaker ones where kinda cheesy and weak. Also disappointing, the worldly way her parents split up.
Florence, I agree with you. I would love to see more Mystery 101 movie. I hope to see more POstables as well.
Awww, that's so sad about Hailey Dean--another series that deserved to be wrapped up properly, not just abandoned. I was enjoying Matchmaker Mysteries, as well. Bummer! Florence, you're so right, if they don't unravel Mystery 101 for us, there will be mutiny!
Delete~Alicia
I've always wondered why there were only three Flower Shop Mysteries. I really liked Brooke Shields and Brennan Elliott together, and the plots of the three were good as well. There was nothing ever said about this series's demise.
DeleteDon't be surprised if there isn't. HM ended one of my favorite series, Cedar Cove, with a cliffhanger, and then it never returned and nothing was resolved. Not sure why HM did that, but not a good move. The the very most they could have done a two hour movie for the series wrap up.
DeleteAlicia, Matchmaker Mysteries was a favorite of mine too. I thought Victor Webster and Danica McKellar were great together. This makes me sad!
DeleteAgree with Mark, not really thrilled by a lot of these movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of Royal movies but this one looks a bit different than most of them and Merritt Patterson and Trevor Donovan are always watching so here's hoping.
A Furry Little Christmas also looks quite interesting - Florence
Not much this weekend that I'm watching. The two I'm most looking forward to are the GAC movies, Jingle Bell Princess and A Lot Like Christmas. But, it will give me a chance to catch up on others I haven't watched yet. Very sad the Sister Swap movies are not family friendly.
ReplyDeleteThis time, it looks like up tv has the most interesting lineup.
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but I think Hallmark Movies and Mysteries will be like Hallmark Drama, which makes no sense to me.
Misty
Any word on if there will be another Mystery 101? Would be terrible to be left hanging. Also, what about Picture Perfect Mysteries, Martha'a Vineyard Mysteries and Ruby Herring Mysteries? Would be nice to have the Picture Perfect Mysteries and Martha's Vineyard Mysteries on dvd. Have the first set of Martha's Vineyard ones. Sad news that there will be no more Halley Dean Mystery movies. Still hoping they put the rest of the Mystery Woman ones on dvd.
ReplyDeleteDid you buy any these Mysteries on DVD? If so play the Mysteries on DVD.
DeleteThere is a new Martha’s Vineyard Mystery. American Dreamer is the title. I had not heard that about no new Hailey Deans. Mystery Woman was one of the best but Clarence Williams passed away, so they wouldn’t be the same. There was a list with new mysteries to come and it has been shortened a lot! The only new ones listed are the Vineyard and Aurora, which already have titles, and new Chronicle, Crossword, and Emma Fielding. However, some have been announced for a while with no action taken.
DeleteI hope GAC will start making mysteries. Maybe since they have Lori Laughlin they will pick up the Garage Sale Mysteries! That would be awesome!
Looks like Hallkmark's goal this year is to not let a weekend go by without some form of un-family friendly content. On the other other hand all GAC Family movies so far have been family friendly. Let's hop Bill Abbott is restoring the original Hallmark sensibility on his netowrk.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the exact same thing, I've literally lost count of how many have had these issues, I'm sure it is over 10 by now, very sad. -brother in Christ
DeleteI agree. I'm not on edge while watching GAC. It feels like the old days of Hallmark when I would turn it on just to get away from the realities of the world. I really am thankful for that GAC was able to get up and running with Christmas movies this season. It really has been a highlight these last few weeks.
DeleteThe holiday movies are piling up in my DVR faster than I can watch them but I hope to do some catching up this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI did watch two movies that I can review.
First was The Christmas Witness which I hoped would be a mystery but turned out to be more of a awkward comedy. It seemed very low-budget and although Jessie, the FBI agent, was interesting, I just could not warm up to her love interest, Dean. Dean had a criminal background, having worked for the Mob for 10 years, and it was implied that he had been with a lot of women. There are some mature themes in this movie, along with some violence, so not family friendly. The two main characters share a motel room (platonically) because the heroine is guarding him in the witness protection program. In the very first scene, the wife of the mob boss tries to seduce Dean. Altogether, I felt I had wasted my time on this movie, and would have turned it off if I had not been busy with another project while it was on.
Next was Christmas Down Under. I like movies set in Australia. This, again, seemed to be more of a comedy than anything. While it had some mildly funny situations, it also had some mature themes and some language that was not family friendly. If I had not been busy doing other things with the TV on in the background, I wouldn't have watched either of these movies all the way through.
Deborah
Not surprised. I think ION makes the worst movies. Thanks for the review!
DeleteMisty
Deborah - I hear ya! My unwatched movies are piling up, too. So appreciate you sharing these ION reviews with us. I saw a little of Christmas Down Under and had the same impression.
DeleteBased on your review, I decided to skip "The Christmas Witness," too.
Thank you!
I'm looking forward to Jingle Bell Princess
ReplyDeleteEight Gifts of Hanukkah is family friendly & its lovely movie. It’s a keeper for me. Daniel Meyers is Sara’s best friends & the boy next door. Every night Sara and her family light Hanukkah candles together & have dinner with Daniel Meyers, their semi-orphaned childhood next-door neighbor, who is also renovating Sara’s optometry practice. Sara is intrigued when an anonymous suitor sends her a gift for each night of Hanukkah on the porch. Every night when Sara receives a thoughtful gift from a secret admirer on the porch. When she received only 7 Hanukkah gifts minus 1? Sara could’ve figure it out it’s actually Daniel is her secret admirer. At Matzel Ball, the band plays Sara & Daniel’s favorite song called; “Collide by Howie Day. Daniel asks Sara for dance - For Sara, Night 8; Daniel shows Sara a ring, it’s actually promise ring that belong to Sara’s late Grandma Babbe Rose who she gave it to him & Daniel hopes 1 day he would give a promise ring to Sara when he puts a promise ring on Sara’s finger - Promise rings can be worn on any finger. Popular options are the ring finger or the middle finger of the left hand or the middle or fourth finger on the right hand. Daniel & Sara are meant to be together.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this movie too. The cast seemed connected. The couple was believable. I remember Jake Epstein in "Mistletoe and Menorah" and liked his acting then. This is one that I'd watch again.
DeleteI have to skip A Very Merry Bridemaid while I’m recording but I gotta to watch the movies Jingle Bell Princess on GAC Family & then Our Christmas Journey on HMM
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed The Eight Gifts of Hanukkah. Family friendly and I loved the family dynamic and secret admirer mystery. You could see her falling in love with each gift. Such a sweet story. They were "meant to be."
ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear, Melissa! Thank you for sharing! :)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGAC Family Jingle Bell Princess was great. GAC Family is the new home for family Christmas Movies. I have given up on Hallmark. I tried watching some Hallmark movies this year but I keep waiting for some non family moment so it ruins them for me.
ReplyDeleteI've been loving all the new Christmas movies on GAC Family, too! It has been such a wonderful launch for this new network, and I love having somewhere else to turn to for Christmas movies. I totally understand your feelings toward Hallmark; I believe many of us here feel the same.
DeleteOur Christmas Journey is family friendly & uplifting movie. Lena & her family cross country to Hope Hills Academy Guesthouse whose owns by Amanda’s family: her Son; Henry & Daughter; Morgan. Lucy the dog is so cute. The dog ratted Lena out by seeing her autistic teenager Son; Marcus. Lena got bust by a lady works for covert program & thanks a lot Lucy when the dog whimpers. Maya & Amanda’s Son named Henry look so cute together. Morgan helps Marcus to relax & gotta be okay. They’re on stage for Christmas pageant. Lena & her ex-Husband; Rick Wilson are back together to make their children happy. Hilda Martin made her first debut role as Maya Wilson loves her 18th years old Brother; Marcus.
ReplyDeleteWas Our Christmas Journey based on a true story?
DeleteYes and no. The movie story is fiction; however, Holly Robinson Peete has a son, who has autism, in real life. That challenge is what inspired this story.
DeleteThank you to the reviewer above for the news on "Our Christmas Journey." So good to hear this one is family friendly!
DeleteNot sure if this has already been mentioned, but A Very Merry Bridesmaid features a same sex married couple. Turned it off after that point so not sure if they were shown again or not.
ReplyDeleteSarah B
Sarah B - thank you so much for sharing with all of us!
DeleteI watched all of "A Very Merry Bridesmaid." That couple was strategically placed together a few times throughout the movie. The story line was decent but I wouldn't watch it again.
DeleteJingle Bell Princess was a nice movie. The set decorations were beautiful. It had all the elements for a nice, relaxing Christmas movie watching experience. And you can’t go wrong with Trevor Donovan and Merritt Patterson.
ReplyDeleteJennifer R, So good to hear how much you enjoyed Jingle Bell Princess. I've noticed the GAC Family movies all have spectacular Christmas decor. Can't wait to see what they do next year!
DeleteThank you, again, for your review!
A Very Merry Bridesmaid is NOT family friendly, the best friend in the movie is married to a woman, not sure if we see these characters more throughout the film, but around the half hour mark(I think) is when I realized the two women were together -brother in Christ
ReplyDeletebrother in Christ, So appreciate you letting us know. To be honest, I kinda wondered about this one when I saw the promo. It was just a feeling I got.
DeleteAnyway, I will definitely be skipping this one. Thank you for sharing this information.
I watched A Jingle Bell Princess even though I don't care for royal movies. I thought it was pretty good. I don't like how there is a blizzard one moment and then the weather is nice and no piles of snow the next. Pretty good chemistry and the daughter was cute.
ReplyDeleteI am skipping the next GAC one. I just don't like Christmas Tree lot storylines. It is the most boring to me.
I finally watched Miracle In The Motor City and loved it! I wish it did better in the ratings. It is my favorite movie this year. Great chemistry, writing and a theme of Christmas at it's best.
I will be checking out Our Christmas Journey.
Misty
Misty, Thank you for sharing these reviews with us! I really enjoyed all the expressions of faith in Miracle in Motor City, too.
DeleteAt least, there are some good ones this year!
I believe Eight Gifts of Hanukkah is family friendly. I fell asleep once during it by accident :) but I'm pretty positive there was nothing bad in the film. It was just ok to me, I didn't care for how many different men were interested in her at the same time (I think 4?) And she was kind of flirting with several of them at the same time, did not really care for that. -brother in Christ
ReplyDeleteLOL, brother in Christ! - I've been known to do that, too, especially if I'm loosing interest and it's been a long day. You'll be happy to know some other reviews have come in for the movie and they, too, are reporting that it is family friendly.
DeleteSo appreciate you sharing!
Hi Net, okay, I just have to tell you...when I first read your comment "I've been known to do that too", I almost fell out of my chair because I thought you were referring to the line about flirting with a bunch of guys at the same time!! But then I read the rest of your message and saw you meant falling asleep during a movie! Ooops! (I hope you are chuckling over this!)
DeleteAnyway, how are the home renovations coming along?
And, I think i was on my 3rd Christmas movie of the day lol so on top of tired after working all day, they were all starting to run together :)
DeleteMark 25 - LOL! I can totally see why you would read it that way. Oh my goodness! That totally cracks me up! Glad you were able to stay in your chair and not get hurt. :)
Deletebrother in Christ, I can totally relate to that, too... with all the movies running together. With all the festivals, tree lightings, and baking of Christmas cookies, *some* of them seem like they are pretty much the same movie - just with different actors.
DeleteMark 25, that is how I read Net's comment the first time. After reading your response, I burst out laughing. So funny! We know Net better than that. Thanks for the laugh.
DeleteNet, you are so right! SO many Christmas movies!! SO many small towns!! SO confusing!! :) yet I still love so many of them through the years!
DeleteMark 25, that is so funny that you read it like that! Especially because none of us, especially Net, are like that, so it makes it even funnier! I love how we can all have a good lighthearted time with each other! Net, you have created such a warm and welcoming environment here, thank you again and again! -brother in Christ
I absolutely adored Jingle Bell Christmas. It was 100% clean and family friendly. The plot was real sweet and filled with kindly characters. I thought Amelia's tradition of making a wish for someone else by tying a ribbon on the tree was very sweet. Trevor and Merritt really went well together, not surprising. Was wonderful and did not disappoint. 😍😊
ReplyDeleteGAC Family is looking better and better. Hope they become the next Hallmark.
Abigail, So good to hear - since Trevor is one of my absolute favorites! I'm hoping they keep growing, as well. They've certainly started off with some wonderful movies.
DeleteEvery time a Bell Rings is not family friendly. As the sisters are catching up around the dinner table it is reeled the the youngest sister Nora is dealing with a breakup with someone named Vanessa. Yet another movie ruined by Hallmark counter culture agenda.
ReplyDeleteSarah B
Sarah B, They made the commercial for this one look so cute; it was really disappointing they added this storyline.
DeleteAppreciate you sharing, honey. I shared your review for others to see.
"A Christmas Dance Reunion" is not family-friendly. It features a gay kiss during the dance performance at the end. I didn't watch the movie to know how prevalent the storyline is, but I googled for content hints and then verified by finding the moment in the movie.
ReplyDelete~Alicia
Alicia - Oh my goodness... I think they keep slipping this in everywhere. So sad. I really appreciate you letting us know.
DeleteAwww that's really sad, I was looking forward to the mini high school musical reunion, oh well. Thank you for the help alicia -brother her in Christ
DeletePrecisely why I'm sticking with the tried and true Christmas classics. Last night I watched Christmas in Connecticut and it was a howl!
DeleteNet and Brother in Christ, it's such a blessing to have all of us helping each other find the movies to enjoy and the movies to skip! It's definitely sad how many are getting crossed off our lists this year.
DeleteSavvy Girl, I don't have TCM channel, but I'm hoping to find some of these old classics to watch! Everyone's excitement over them is contagious. I need to try the library. :-) I've seen nothing besides "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Christmas in Connecticut" and feel like I'm seriously missing out. :-)
~Alicia
Alicia, Do yourself a Christmas favor and check out the oldies but goodies!! Sometimes I put on a HM movie, discover it's not family friendly, and I ask myself why I just wasted my time when I could have watched A Christmas Carol, Little Women, Christmas in CT, It's a Wonderful Life, and the list goes on! Check out Beyond Tomorrow, which is mentioned in the Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas series. You will not be disappointed!!
DeleteYes, there's nothing like the oldies - but goodies! I also adore so many of those treasured classics. My heart is always filled with the warm and fuzzies after watching! :)
DeleteThanks to everyone with the warning about A Very Merry Bridesmaid. Last Christmas season, there were only around 2 films that had side characters with the same sex issues. It's so crazy now that I wouldn't be surprised if next year, or the year after next, the main characters would be homosexuals. I pray that won't be the case.
ReplyDeleteHallmark reminds me of all the warnings in Proverbs.
Abigail, Bless you for sharing this. I've been thinking a lot about what might happen next year, and I'm trying not to worry and put it all in God's hands, but I admit, it's hard. The moral decay of our country seems to be happening rapidly and it all makes me very sad. I pray for God's mercy to be upon our country and for hearts to turn back to Him.
DeleteGod bless you, dear - Merry Christmas!!! :)
I think that Every Time a Bell Rings is not family friendly one of the three sisters is a lesbian I don't know which one.
ReplyDeleteChris, It's the blonde-haired sister in the movie, played by actress Ali Liebert ("A Gift to Remember").
DeleteJingle Bell Princess was such a good movie. I really enjoyed watching it. And it is such a good feeling when you don't have to worry about the content of the movie, because you know that GAC movies are family-friendly, and most of all, I like that they show some important values, such as, for example, in this movie the tradition with a ribbon (to make a wish not for yourself but for other people). And I like a beautiful Christmas atmosphere in each movie, and how cosy and warm you feel while watching it.
ReplyDeleteOksanka - So happy to hear how much you enjoyed this movie and the values in it! Thank you for sharing with us! :)
DeleteMerry Christmas to you!
When Hallmark hit the 40 movie mark for new films I wondered how I would watch them all. With all this same sex content, I will say they are making it easier for me since I don’t go anywhere near these movies.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I am with you on this. This time of year, it is hard for me to find time to watch movies, so it is easier to skip Hallmark and go for the safe ones. After reading reviews here, I take off those unsuitable movies from the DVR. GAC is a blessing!
DeleteWhen we got cable a few years ago, we shopped around for cable providers that included Hallmark and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. It was one of the only places where I felt like I could relax to watch a programming without violence and an agenda. After this Christmas movie season and hearing that HMM is dropping mysteries, I'll be making sure that I can get GAC. I just feel like HM has spiraled down as quick as a toilet flush. I am so disappointed.
DeleteNet

I must have been sleeping in - I didn't know that Hallmark was dropping their Mysteries? - Florence
Mary, Right now there aren’t many cable providers offering GAC. I do know that Philo and Frndly are offering it.
DeleteMary, I understand your frustration with Hallmark completely. Many of us here feel the same way. We definitely have trust issues and this Christmas season has made matters even worse.
DeleteGAC Family has been such a wonderful addition to our home during this holiday season - I highly recommend looking into getting the channel, if you can.
As for mysteries on HMM, I do believe they will be scaling back. It's disappointing to me, too, since I really enjoyed the various mystery series.
Anonymous, Thank you for taking a stand with us. It's making it much easier for me, too.
DeleteGod bless you & Merry Christmas!!!
kitkat - 100% agree! GAC Family is an absolute blessing! We've been thoroughly enjoying all of their movies. :)
DeleteFlorence, HMM hasn't fully stopped making mystery movies, but it's looking like they won't be making quite as many, as they were before. Should be interesting to see how this goes with viewers. I know I'm personally disappointed.
DeleteThanks for clarifyimg, Net.

A Furry Little Christmas was family friendly. It was kind of cute but it wasn't a keeper for me (the dvr is way too full!); at times it felt a little low-budget or something(?). However, I think others will enjoy it more than I did simply due to the cute animals, the loving family, the cute little boy, and all the warm Christmas fuzzies.
