Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I'm not sure if either of these new movies are overly appealing to me. I like the actors, but the stories aren't grabbing me, so far. Is it just me? Love Strikes Twice is a do-over type movie and those can be okay, sometimes, and other times not, and One Summer looks kind of sad, but it might be heartwarming, as well. We'll see. Perhaps one or both will surprise me.

What do you think of the new movies? Share in comments below.

Please Note: I have not pre-screened these movies. If you would like to post a review on whether these movies are family-friendly, please share in comments.

Blessings to you all, Net

  1. I'll give the two movies a fair viewing but from a personal viewpoint the plot scenarios are ones I'm not keen on.

I prefer that the leads don't come with any baggage - why does Sam Page always seem to get these roles now? - and while I loved Kate Findlay and Wyatt Nash in The Bridge I feel very uneasy about "time travel" movies although they can sometimes work - Florence

  2. Neither movie particularity appeals to me either.
"One Summer" reminds me of "Midway to Heaven," only sadder. I love "Midway" with its hopeful and fun nature. In it, the man also talks with his deceased wife and she encourages him to start dating again and helps him through the changes he experiences when his daughter brings home her "almost fiance." "One Summer" has a decidedly sadder feel to it. And it seems to be more about him healing and the whole family healing together and less about the romance between Sam Page and Sarah Drews' characters (witch I'm okay with). Maybe it will surprise me!

I do have to say, I LOVE both movie posters! That's a point in Hallmarks favor! :)

    1. LB, I, too, especially like the "One Summer" poster! I think it looks unique and the beach atmosphere seems almost dream-like. The reflection in the water is beautifully done, and I like the lighthouse in the background. I haven't watched the movie, yet; however, I plan to this week.

  3. Is that San Page’s character’s Wife on the movie poster?

Sam Page’s Wife passed away & he & children move to his Wife’s hometown; beachfront for healing

    1. Yes, the reflection is of actress, Amanda Schull, who is portraying Sam's deceased wife. I was surprised Sarah Drew wasn't featured on the poster, as well, but it is beautifully done.

  4. Honestly I’m not impressed with the Fall Harvest movies so far this year. Most of them don’t seem to have anything to do with Fall. Does Hallmark know what Fall is? It appears they’ve forgotten. They had so many wonderful Fall movies in years past like Harvest Moon, October Kiss, Falling For Vermont, Midnight Masquerade, Pumpkin Pie Wars, Falling For You, Love of Course and Love, Fall and Order. Sadly, it looks like they just threw any available movie into the Fall Harvest lineup this year. I hope they do better next year and in the meantime, I’ll enjoy my copies of these Fall Harvest classics.

    1. Melissa, I hear ya! Now Roadhouse Romance certainly was decorated for the Fall Season quite well, so at least they had a good Fall start with that movie. Harvest Moon, Autumn Dreams, & Love, Fall & Order are some of my favorites, too! I always make sure to watch them each year, if I don't catch them on Hallmark.

  5. The 2 leads in "Love strikes twice" were really good in " The Bridge ". Hoping for the same in this movie.

  6. I've been surprised at how good this season of Chesapeake Shores has been, as long as they aren't any surprises in future episodes.

  7. I just thought that "Fall Harvest" meant Fall themed movies, but it seems there have been quite a few this year that have not been and don't seem to be from the looks of their titles and previews. More Summery than Fall. :( -Grace

  8. Love Strikes Twice storyline doesn't sound great to me. One Summer sounds too sad for me. I'll skip these two movies. Thanks Net for posting the storylines. God bless.

  13. I haven't watched any of the Hallmark movies in quite some time, but agree that I don't get why say 'Fall Movies' when none take place in fall or have a autumn feel.

  14. I am not a big fan of time travel/altered reality movies, but I just finished Love Strikes Twice and I absolutely LOVED it! Not only did it not have anything objectionable in it, I feel it had some great positive messages about love and marriage. In addition, it was just plain fun. SO different, in my opinion, from the usual fare. I haven’t been watching as many Hallmark movies this year, but I’m very happy I watched this one!

    2. Sharon, I too loved this movie. I did not plan to watch but recorded it as a maybe. After reading your review, I did watch it. Love Strikes Twice is different in a positive way. Just a happy, feel good story. Katie Findlay was perfect for the lead. It was so much better than I expected.

  16. I am with you guys saying the movies aren't fall Harvest. I feel Fall Harvest always gets the rotten end of the stick every year cause it leads up to Hallmark wanting to have the most new movies over Lifetime. They dont care about Fall Harvest, they just want to push out movies so people are watching the commercials for Christmas and how they have a record year and how their movie was #1 this week among women, 25 years 4 months, 7 days, and 6 hours old that drive a white van and have not been to the mall in a year.

I too havent watched many HM movies this year. I recorded both this weekend, but i looked up the book One Summer and was like wow this is sad.

I saw a preview for CS cause i just didnt want to watch anymore when Trace was gone, and it was so predictable with Kevin and Sara, really couldn't get more predictable. Now this is only me seeing the commercial for last nights episode. Not interested in all on Abby and rich guy, or any of them for that matter.

The "Fall Harvest" movie coming up this week South Beach Love, looks AWFUL!!!!! And I live in florida and have a lot of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Latino friends, but this movie looks like they are on spanish overload. I wont even watch a second of it, cause it looked like from the preview some of the worst acting i have ever seen. and not an ounce of Fall. Souch Beach Love belongs at best in summer nights, or scrapped cause it looks so bad. And the movie the week after, not at all sure why its called Fall.

Did see a preview for the new POstables movie and cant wait for that. Also cant wait for SSD Christmas coming up.

    1. Sabrina, I always love hearing your take! Yeah, One Summer sounds really sad, and with all the sadness in the world, do we really need more? I plan to watch it, I guess, but I may fast-forward through some of it, if I find it overly depressing.

As for Chesapeake Shores, I have been watching this season. I'm midway through last night's episode. It is hard to see Abby with the other guys - totally agree there. And I'm not crazy how they've made Evan Kincaid annoying, at times, and then someone to be pitied, at other times. I just love the family elements, and Stephen Huszar's character Luke - has been my favorite. He starts out living in his truck, with a prison record, and then Mick gives him a job at The Bridge. That's been the highlight for me - seeing redemption for his character.

Anyway, I also wish we had more Fall Harvest movies that actually felt like Fall. I'm so looking forward to "An Autumn Romance" on GAC Family! From the pictures they've shared of turning leaves in the background - it looks perfect for this season!

Bless you, my friend! Happy Autumn to you!!! :)

  17. Hi Net,
Just watched Edge of the Garden, what a wonderful movie. That is what lead me here, how I found you.

My name is Toni, also a woman of God.

Interested in watching One Summer this week. Will let you know how it makes me feel afterwards.

Are there anymore movies similar to Edge of the Garden that you recommend? The movie spoke to me, as if God prompted me to watch and Blessed my day through a feel good movie.

    Have a wonderful Blessed day!

I watched One Summer. It is a sad movie but it's soooo good! Sam Page is awesome as are the other actors as well. It shows a family working through their grief. It has some very intense moments just before the ending. No romance...family friendly. Story is left where there could easily be a sequel. I know we have a lot of sadness in our world today, but this movie is so worth watching! I love it!!

    1. Joyce, I so appreciate you being the first to review this movie! Thank you! I enjoyed reading your thoughts on it.

I was very curious on whether there would be any romance in it or potential there, but since they left Sarah Drew off the poster, I figured probably not. I'm glad you mentioned that. Very interesting and unusual to have a Hallmark movie end without one.

I look forward to watching sometime, especially after reading you review!

I have been watching CS this season and thought I would not like it without Trace. The first few epoxides were so so! But the Bre and Luke story is heating up and I think their story will be very interesting. She was very quick to put the other dude in his place last night and we were left with a cliff hanger concerning Mick!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Joyce... YES!!!! Oh my goodness! That cliffhanger with Mick missing. All of their faces were perfect; they just feel like a real family.

Also, good to hear you are loving Bree and Luke, too! I so wanted Conner to tell Bree - Luke was going to inform her that night about his prison record. But of course, he didn't. That would've proven he wasn't going to keep it from her. Anyway, so glad Luke's report smoothed things out, but I have a feeling the other guy may still make trouble, yet.

Although, I would still write Trace's part differently if I could, this season has been surprisingly better than I thought.

  20. Hi Net,

You are always amazing at finding things and I was wondering if you know who might sing the song that is used in the preview for the hallmark movie south beach love?
I can't find it. Do you know?
Thank you as always for such a wonderful website!!!

  21. Love Strikes Twice was hilarious! I recommend this family-friendly movie for anyone in need of some good laughs! It was a bit confusing sometimes as it seemed she wanted to change her life rather than return to it, but all in all was a good movie! Katie Findlay is so funny and needs to be in more movies! A mystery series with her would be perfect!
