Mystery 101: Deadly History
Starring: Jill Wagner, Kristoffer Polaha, Robin Thomas
Premieres: Sunday, August 1, 2021

Review:
🔎 "Mystery 101: Deadly History – Wow! What can I say? This was another spectacular, thrilling mystery from the “Mystery 101” franchise of films. First of all, the main cast is amazing with Jill Wagner, as Literature Professor Amy Winslow, Kristoffer Polaha, as Police Detective Travis Burke, and Robin Thomas, as Amy’s father and Author Graham Winslow. The trio travel to Ithaca, New York – as the search is on in this movie for Graham’s brother, Alastair (or Al) who has disappeared under suspicious circumstances. This role of Al is played by actor Peter Benson, who is explained in the movie to be the much younger brother of Graham. There are a plethora of interesting characters – tied to Al, who all seem rather guilty at one point or another. Plus, the movie is filled with numerous action-packed adventures as Amy and Travis both dodge bullets at various times: Amy takes a boat ride out to meet the ransomers and Travis rides out on an ATV to find them – with the help of a drone overhead. While the mystery plays the key role throughout the movie, there’s also a deeper connection developing between Amy and Travis – who share special moments of their past with one another. Every aspect of this movie is fascinating – from the mystery, itself, to Travis and Amy, and then there was THE END … another cliff hanger ending that has everyone talking … wondering … what does this mean??? This is a must see family-friendly mystery for around age 12 and up – due to some violence. “Mystery 101: Deadly History” is so good – it leaves you wanting more!" ~Net
🔎 "Oh my goodness! What a cliffhanger on Mystery 101! And what a fantastic episode! It just keeps getting better and better!" ~Jennifer R.
🔎 "First I love Mystery 101 but hated the ending. I was so upset. Those mysteries will not be the same without the chemistry and growing relationship between Amy and Travis. I hope they are scheduled to make more." ~Anonymous
🔎 "This was an excellent mystery which I really enjoyed although I found it very difficult to get my head around it, there was so much happening as it first swung one way and then the other, any of the cast could have been the culprit and there were plenty to choose from. Some exciting scenes too such as Amy going out on the lake in a boat to meet the kidnappers and then swimming to shore. I nearly didn't recognise Peter Benson at first. One thing I found off-putting as has happened with other actresses before is that several times it was pretty obvious that Jill was pregnant. Also for me it's got to the stage where it's a bit tired when the father "accidentally" interrupts a romantic scene! It was nice to have a different setting but I hope this was just a one-off. The ending came completely out of the blue - I can't even begin to think where this is going in fact I was saying to myself - is that really Kristoffer Polaha? It's impossible to believe that there won't be more of Mystery 101 although in the circumstances it might be some while and six months ago I wouldn't even have considered the possibility there wouldn't be but with many of the directions Hallmark is taking now I wouldn't be certain of anything. Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery
Starring: Alison Sweeney, Cameron Mathison, Barbara Niven
Premieres: Sunday, August 8, 2021
Storyline: As Hannah (Sweeney) and Mike (Mathison) experience engaged life while balancing their busy careers, a murder at a 24-hour gym complicates their wedding planning.
Reviews:
🔎 "Hannah Swensen movie: was full on woke, i mean it couldnt get more woke. All of the people in high positions on Hallmark are people of color. Eden Lake looked like a completely different place with different people. Hannah's out of the blue sister, very annoying, i get they are trying to replace Andrea but she was awful. Allison sweeney said in the books they have another sister, ok, but in 5 movies they didnt once mention another sister????????? Have they been stringing Norman along for the last 2 movies? The women is engaged to someone else dude, it was very awkward. The woman killed was married i believe and was kissing some guy on pictures, i just felt like this was a Lifetime movie. The movie just seemed weird to me. And just so weird the cast, i mean the band playing was asian, their were people walking behind mike and whoever the lady was at the police station and i saw so many different races of people walking around the police station. I get the need for diversity, but honestly, it feels like these movies have been told to have so many of each color. But they have seemed to skip the spanish and american indian. Hallmark is focusing on african american, and asian right now. Just like what is on the news now, although Cuban is on the news, but Cuban doesnt fit the narrative. It is so sad. I am all for diversity, but it just feels like diversity threw up on all these movies and it feels forced." ~Sabrina
🔎 "Hannah Swensen mystery - Sure... there were a lot of similarities to Murder, She Baked, but there was a lot of differences, too. The town is not Eden Lake anymore, now it's called Lake Eden. The new sister is a lovely actress (from Emma Fielding), but I also didn't think she fit well with Hannah and her mom, Delores. I missed Andrea so much, it felt like she was replaced with a younger, single version. Plus, I missed Bill with Mike at the station, too. And - I so wanted to see their little girl. It's definitely not the same. And yes... poor Norman, it felt like he was still in this love triangle, even though Mike and Hannah are engaged. I hope in the next one he moves on to someone else. Plus, one of the side characters was married and having an affair; it seems several men were interested in her. While it was good to see Hannah, Mike, Norman, Lisa, and Delores again, it didn't feel quite like Murder, She Baked. We were definitely not in Eden Lake anymore. I kept feeling like their was a missing ingredient; it was bittersweet." ~Net
🔎 "Watched all the Murder She Baked movies Sunday in anticipation of the new Hannah movie. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. Andrea and Bill weren’t in it, they introduced a new sister that wasn’t mentioned in any of the previous 5 movies and Norman got very little screen time. Also, the Murder She Baked music typically played at the beginning of the movies and a little throughout was missing as well as the small town feel. It didn’t even feel like they were in Eden Lake anymore. They’ve used about four different locations for Hannah’s bakery through the years. The one in this movie was the same as the one used in the last Murder She Baked movie and it just doesn’t have the cute, small town bakery vide the previous ones did. If they decide to do more movies, they need to go back to what made the originals so great." ~Melissa
🔎 "I do love the actress that played Hannah's new and out of the blue sister, I just felt they were trying t get her to act like Andrea, and it was very unnatural. The actress that plays Andrea is a natural and nothing was ever forced. I LOVE when she plays the scene in peach cobbler mystery where she says melanie didnt even make the pie. that entire scene and after when she is kind of crying saying oh i need to sit down. so good and natural. Another great scene is when Mom is asking Andrea where hannah is, and mom says please dont tell me hannah is at douglas's, and Andrea says "fine, then i wont tell you hannah is at douglas's. She is a natural and the new actresses seemed like she was trying way to hard to be like Andrea. she should be herself, there is only one Andrea. I am sure a lot of the differences in this is because they likely couldnt use things and songs from the Murder she baked. Who knows maybe they couldnt use some of the characters? Could explain it. They only said Andrea moved so she could come back and either visit for a movie or move back. I wondered if they would pair Norman and Hannah's new out of the blue sister." ~Sabrina
🔎 "I knew it wouldn’t be good without Andrea! And the whole Norman thing was just weird! He had gotten over Hannah a long time ago and even had a girlfriend in the last movie. Why feel the need to always have a triangle in a Hallmark movie? Did anyone else notice how the mom was extra silly and annoying?" ~Anonymous

Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Honeymoon, Honeymurder
Starring: Candace Cameron Bure, Niall Matter, Marilu Henner
Premieres: Sunday, August 22, 2021
Storyline: While on a “pre-honeymoon” getaway, Aurora (Bure) and Nick (Matter) discover a body, and as they get closer to finding out what really happened, danger knocks on their doorstep.
Review:
🔎 "Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Honeymoon, Honeymurder - I thought it was a good mystery. Sally and Arthur both weren't in it this one, so it wasn't quite the same without their lighthearted banter. Aida and Philip, however, were included. While Philip was trying to pick up clues, Aida was dong her best to stay away from it all, but not successfully. Roe and Nick were fairly cute on their pre-honeymoon. I thought it was kinda of annoying, though, that they kept saying it was their PRE-honeymoon. It was almost as if going to a beautiful cabin nearby on the lake wasn't good enough to be their actual honeymoon, which was to be Paris. Another interesting tidbit... Roe and Nick were reading Robin Daniel's (her ex) new mystery thriller on their honeymoon. Anyway, it was a family friendly sort of mystery (I would say 12 and up, as usual, due to some violence) and even though I guessed the guilty person, it was still an intriguing who-dun-it!" ~Net
🔎 "I watched Aurora. Like you Net, I found them referring to "Pre-honeymoon" annoying. We get it. It did seem that Aurora and Lynn have made some connections for friends. I personally have found that to be very distracting and unbelievable. You have a person that is so good at solving crimes and you still do not bring her on as a consultant?? That alone has almost made me stop watching Aurora. I can't seem to get into the Hallmark movies that they have now. I watch more HMM." ~Joyce in Carolina
🔎🔎🔎🔎🔎
I am super excited about these three new mysteries; I can't watch to see this next chapter for Aurora Teagarden, this family mystery for Amy and Graham Winslow in Mystery 101, and of course, I think it's going to be extra exciting to see Hannah, Mike, & Norman return in the all new Hannah Swensen Mystery!
Please note: Typically, the mystery movies (due to violence) are best suited for ages 12 and up. If you'd like to add a review, on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments below.
Happy sleuthing! Net

Okay. If they brought Norman back they can bring her sister and brother-in-law and niece back too! I will be extremely upset if they aren’t in it. Lisa Durupt was the funniest one in the series!
ReplyDeleteI love her sister too! Who knows? Maybe she and others will be back in the future episodes.
DeleteI hope so!
DeleteMystery 101: Deadly History
ReplyDeleteAmy (Wagner) and Travis (Polaha) travel to New York to investigate when Amy’s uncle goes missing, as does all his research on the “accidental” death 50 years ago of a family heir
Mystery 101; Deadly History
ReplyDeleteI notice Jason Cermak, if he protrayed as Amy’s Cousin
Whose’s her Uncle - her Father’s side or Mother’s side
Peter Benson is in it
I see Peter Benson in it, I am just hoping he isnt supposed to be Amy's uncle, unless He is Graham's much much much younger brother, cause Peter cant be much older than Jill.
DeleteSabrina
Wow! You're right! That would be an odd age gap. Love the actor though. (Especially when playing Arthur) Maybe he's her cousin???
DeleteAnon, Sabrina, & Abigail...
DeleteLike you guys, I thought surely Peter Benson couldn't be playing Amy's uncle, but he is...
Here's the new storyline released:
"The day after the events of “Killer Timing,” a concerned Amy (Jill Wagner), Travis (Kristoffer Polaha)
and Graham (Robin Thomas) travel to Ithaca, New York to find Amy’s Uncle Alastair (Peter Benson, “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries”), a history professor at the local college
who is missing. Also gone is all of Alastair’s research on the accidental death of a prominent family heir 50 years year ago – a death he believed may have been murder. Amy and Travis join forces with the local sheriff as they work their way through a maze of clues and suspects, including an acerbic corporate CEO, an eccentric patriarch and Alastair’s estranged wife – a literature professor who, like Amy, specializes in crime fiction."
Peter Benson definitely isn't the Uncle I visualized Amy having. I thought more like Gregory Harrison or something.
Ok...I tried searching Peter Benson's age, but it wasn't available. I did see that the actor's wife, Julia Benson was born in the same year as Jill Wagner. Super close!😮
DeleteI trust Hallmark, but hope they use makeup to age him or have him grow a beard. He'll need something.
Make it clear Peter Benson protrayed as Amy’s Uncle were working on research of family heir but Peter Benson is grown up into Gregory Harrison or someone else whose working on his all research “accidental” death last 50 years of family heir before he gone missing.
DeleteAmy goes search her Uncle Alastair with Travis & her Dad; Graham in New York
Peter Benson protrayed as young vision of Graham’s younger Brother; he’s grown up into ???; in the present
Peter Benson as Alastair in the past
???? as Alastair in the present
Mystery 101
DeleteIn the beginning of the movie will take a place in 50 years ago; Peter Benson as young Alastair whose working on all of his research of family heir
Later on, same scenes from the end of the movie: Mystery 101: Killing Time when Amy read pieces of papers &btold Travis that her Uncle Alastair is missing in NY
Present time, Amy talks with her Father; Graham about her Uncle Alastair before she goes to her class.
If it is the same person who shot at flower vase. Sniper shots at Amy in front of Travis in Mystery 101: Killing Time at her Father’s house.
Amy, Travis, & Graham go search for Amy’s Uncle Alastair by riding a yacht if he’s still alive out there.
It would be great and would make a lot of sense if Peter Bensen is a younger vision of her uncle.
DeleteAt first when I saw the Hannah Swensen preview, it looked like she was wearing a wedding dress. Thanks for the photos.
ReplyDeleteSo glad she let her hair grow long again. Love Hannah!😀
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see the new mysteries coming in August. I don't ever remember any of the mysteries going off with a cliff hanger before like Mystery 101 did in the last episode. Excited to Hanna Swenson back, but couldn't help but notice some of the regulars are not in the pictures. Hoping all will be back. Thanks for the update Net and all of the great pictures!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, I loved the cliffhanger, too! There were so many little mysteries in this one movie - I thought it was so cool they left us with one more. Can't believe how close this new premiere is now - can't wait to see it!!! :)
DeleteGlad you enjoyed this post & the pics - thank you for sharing, my friend! :)
I'm thrilled that Hannah Swensen is back--I was worried that this series had ended when the Chronicle mysteries started. (I like those, but love the Hannah Swenson movies. And I totally agree that any movie with Hannah needs to include her sister. The only reason not to would be if the actress playing her is temporarily unavailable due to receiving some long-overdue recognition and a bigger part somewhere else. In that case, we need her here for the wedding!
ReplyDeleteMost Definitely! Could not have a proper wedding without her!
DeleteBeth, I totally agree! Angela is more than her sister, she's like her best friend and of course, her snooping buddy.😊I hope she will be there for the wedding. Maybe she'll be absent for this episode only the way Sally was in the Aurora series. Her character is too important.
DeleteBeth, Anonymous, & Abigail -
DeleteOh my goodness... you are ALL so right! Whenever they do have the wedding movie, which I assume we'll get to see one day - her sister, Andrea (Lisa Durupt) MUST MUST MUST be there! She's been on Team Mike from the beginning- it would be so strange if she wasn't there cheering her sister on - on her wedding day! Plus, Andrea's daughter, Hannah's niece, needs to be the flower girl, of course!
I interviewed Lisa Durupt awhile back for MSB and she was sooo sweet! Sure hope we get to see her return to the series.
Oh my goodness! They replaced Angela with Hannah's youngest sister. Just watched the "On Location." Still hoping she'll be back.
DeleteAnother great character... what about Bill??
The new sister doesn't even look related to Hannah the way Angela did. If you look at their hair, eyes, and skin tones.
DeleteWhat?! Please don’t tell me that, Abigail! That’s just stupid! I watched the video. It doesn’t sound like they’re planning on including Andrea and Bill. Does anyone else agree that it’s really annoying and stupid when Hallmark randomly introduces random family members to all our favorite characters? Long lost relatives that are only mentioned for one movie and then forgotten about, or introduced to take the place of a beloved character. This has been a frequent occurrence on Hallmark lately.
DeleteYeah, and why wasn't the youngest sibling ever mentioned before??
DeleteI agree, the sister and brother-in-law must come back!!! :-)
Delete~Alicia
Norman looks so different in Hannah Swensen Mysteries
ReplyDeleteHow so?? Love Norman. Really hope he gets paired with someone wonderful and deserving of him. He's a real gentleman. What you see is what you get. I kinda have a suspicion they will match him with Hannah's younger sister. We'll see.
DeleteWhat happened to Murder She Baked?
ReplyDeleteChris, "Hannah Swensen Mysteries" is a continuation of most of the same characters from the "Murder She Baked" mystery series. I think we are all wondering how this new movie will differ from the original.
DeleteCameron Mathison signed 5 Murder, She Baked movies
ReplyDelete4 more left to go
Will there ever be a Signature Mysteries Movie that stars Pascale Hutton?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, Chris, but I think Pascale Hutton would be great in a mystery!
DeleteLooks like great movies.

This was an excellent mystery which I really enjoyed although I found it very difficult to get my head around it, there was so much happening as it first swung one way and then the other, any of the cast could have been the culprit and there were plenty to choose from.

First I love Mystery 101 but hated the ending. I was so upset. Those mysteries will not be the same without the chemistry and growing relationship between Amy and Travis. I hope they are scheduled to make more. Also, can you tell me are they planning to make more Chronicle mysteries, Emma Fielding or Fixer Upper Mysteries?
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your review for Mystery 101, I added it above. I'm also hoping they plan to make many more of these mysteries!
DeleteAs for the future of Emma Fielding & Fixer Upper Mysteries, I don't believe they are planning to make any more of those movies, unfortunately. Nothing official has been announced, but I feel like they have ended.
As for Chronicle Mysteries, Alison Sweeney just shared in an interview that they are actually planning to do more of them + Hannah Swensen. Anyway, that's the plan for now.
She also shared that she's producing and starring in a Hallmark Christmas movie... details to come!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you keeping us to date. I love your site! Have a great week and thank you for all your hard work.
DeleteCan anyone tell me the name of the man murdered in the cliff hanger ending of Mystery 101 Deadly History? I already deleted it from my DVR. I watched Dead talk last night and now I'm curious if it was one of the characters from episode 4 (I know I'm being vague, but I don't want to post any potential spoilers for anyone that hasn't seen Deadly History yet). I'm going to record Deadly History again, but it doesn't come on until next week.
ReplyDeleteKellie, I can answer your question...
DeleteCAUTION:
"Mystery 101: Deadly History"
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD ---->
The name they mention as the deceased fiancé is Sam Jameson.
I asked Kristoffer Polaha if he or Jill knew where this cliffhanger story was leading and he said it was crazy, but no, they didn't know either. Interesting, huh?
Hope you can follow some clues here... Happy sleuthing!
Thanks Net! I’m excited to see what happens in the next movie.
