  1. At first I thought this movie was just quite odd. The characters all seemed to be way over-the-top. But then I decided to just embrace the quirkiness and go with it.... and I ended up loving this movie!!! I might even keep it on my dvr for a re-watch. And I definitely want to start keeping my own Christmas Jar in my kitchen now! I have friends who have read, and enjoyed, the book and it's always been on my "someday" wish list; I have no idea which is better, book or movie, but I certainly recommend the movie.

I believe this was family-friendly. The Christmas Jars are given to people who are hurting and/or in need and sometimes when people are in those situations life isn't pretty. For instance, one of the recipients is a woman who has obviously been physically beaten, the camera doesn't show a scene with her being beaten but just the result, which is her bruised face, but, perhaps because of this, some parents would not deem this to be okay for younger kids to watch.
