  2. I know it's bordering on blasphemy on this site but I think I may be reaching my limit with Christmas movies this year! I've been a fan of Net's site here for years and look forward to Christmas movies months before they begin to air but I think I've watched a new movie almost every day for close to two months now. So many similar plots and situations that I'm actually reaching my limit! It's a shame because I love Christmas movies but I think my problem is that I'm too much of a completest and I think I need to watch all of them for some reason. But despite all this, I know that once I turn on the Hallmark Channel after New Year's and they're no longer airing Christmas movies, I'll miss them!

    1. Oh, Susan... I feel your heart! I am the same way! I always want to try and see everything, but it is overwhelming to watch them all, or even record for later. There are many similar stories this year, that is certainly true. As usual, some are a grade better than others, but that's to be expected. I'm totally there with you... even though it is a lot this year, I'm sure the Christmas movies will truly be missed in January!

    3. That's right! I'm so happy that the Hallmark Channel is playing Christmas movies until January 5th and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is actually playing Christmas movies a little longer... until the very early morning hours of January 7th! :)

    4. @Susan - I am totally with you! I mean I get that Hallmark follows the same pattern because it worked, but this year is especially bad with the plot repetition. HMM and Lifetime are both better and offer more variety but honestly most new Christmas movies in Hallmark this year has the same plot which is disappointing. We need new writers with fresh ideas in Hallmark!

    5. I too have been getting tired of the Christmas movies as there are just way too many and the same stories over and over. But I too find myself about to cry that the Christmas movies will be over soon, but I think I am more sad that the older movies and any movie before 2014 are barely played at all, only at like 2 am, and I feel I want to cry that I will miss Hats off to Christmas, A Bride for Christmas, Naughty or Nice, Matchmaker Santa, and many of the older movies. I think I may feel this way as they are barely ever on, and if they are, I am sleeping or at work. Very sad that has happened this year. I would prefer they move them next year to HMM at least I would get to see them there many times of the day. I fond myself wishing we could go back to 2014 when there were only 14 new movies on HM.

So glad to see I'm not alone in saying there are just too many Christmas movies now. The quality on HM is definitely not as good. Some time more is not better. Like Sabrina says...I had rather have less new ones so we can continue to see our favorites from the past years. All the other movies are shown all through the year, but we only get the Christmas movies for a couple of months. I hope Hallmark will reconsider the "more is better" theory and focus on quality.
      Happy New Year to all!

    7. The new Hallmark Channel commercial for Christmas 2019 says it will be bigger than ever as Hallmark celebrates it's 10th anniversary of Countdown to Christmas, so I'm thinking that means there will be even more new movies than this Christmas season. I prefer quality over quantity, too. I remember when HMM only had 2 new movies one Christmas, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: For Christmas" and "The Christmas Secret." Those two were phenomenal that year and continue to be two of my favorites!

I'm with you all, more isn't always better, but it will be certainly interesting to see what the anniversary celebration will bring. I know I'm certainly intrigued! :)

    8. Who is to determine what is a "quality" movie? If I like something that you didn't like, does that mean that I like a movie of lower quality? Or if you love a movie that I dislike, does that mean it's of low quality? I don't love "The Christmas Card" or the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" Christmas movie, but other people do. Does that mean that, because I don't love them, they're of of a lesser quality? NO.

I think that people are thinking it is a quality issue, when it is simply a matter of personal taste. We are not all supposed to love every movie that is made every year, and we all know the kinds of movies that Hallmark puts out. Some of them we will love in some years, and some we won't. People think that if they didn't personally love something, then that means it's of lower quality, and that baffles me.

There are people who tuned in this year who loved "A Midnight Kiss," while others did not like it at all. Who is to say who is right about the "quality" of that movie, when it is all subjective?

Be grateful that we have these movies in the first place, because many people have far worse "problems" to deal with that this. We all must have charmed lives if lots of new movies are somehow a problem. Many people enjoy having a lot of new movies each year.

    9. @Anonymous - You are correct that it is all subjective and the quality is in the eyes of the beholder. However, when the similar stories are repeated over and over ("heroine coming back to hometown reuniting with old love" has been a very popular theme), that's just shows that writers are following the same pattern and not having fresh ideas. What I was pointing at was the repetitive stories which TO ME doesn't speak originality and the best of quality coming from such a great network like Hallmark Channel. There are some unique ones this year such as A Shoe Addict's Christmas and Christmas Everlasting, which I truly appreciate. I do think highly of Hallmark, and therefore expected more (compared to Lifetime), however, personally this year I felt let down. HMM was amazing though! Again, as you said it is all subjective and we are all entitled to our own opinion. Truthfully, yes I am grateful for these movies, but i post my comments in the hope that someone from Hallmark would read this and be willing to consider fresher ideas for the year to come. It's constructive criticism ;) Happy New Year to you.

    10. Thank you, CH Mom and Anonymous, for sharing your thoughts.

CH- I have so enjoyed your reviews throughout the Christmas season, as they've been helpful and positive. All who contributed in giving a thought on various films were careful not to reveal too much and kind in either their like or dislike of a particular film. It's rather fun to sit down and watch a movie knowing one of my friends here enjoyed it so much! And, yeah, of course, there will be ones we don't like, as well, and each of us, have our own personal favorites and non-favorites.

As for the repeating themes, I'm sure they will carry on, but we do appreciate the effort taken when a story is a little more unique!

I'm still catching up on watching, but from what I've seen, they've been mostly great or good this year. None from Hallmark have been terrible, and most of all, I'm grateful I can watch any of these with my family!

Thank you, CH, so much for sharing! I love hearing your take!

Blessings, my friend, & Happy New Year, too! Net

  5. I love this movie. They stay in a city, they have friends they care about, they still care about work and focus on a work life balance vs all life and no work...and they have great chemistry. Plus it's timely with current social media and web discussions. I hope they put it on dvd or at least for sale streaming.
