TCA NEWS: Hallmark Increases Production on Original Specials!
Hallmark Press Release:
BEVERLY HILLS, CA – July 26, 2018 – Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will increase production on original specials in the coming months that will give viewers a glimpse at new, original movie premieres, celebrate seasons and further the company’s commitment to raising awareness for pet rescue and the benefits of having pets in our lives. The announcement was made today as part of Crown Media Family Networks’ bi- annual Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.
“We’re pleased to offer our viewers a variety of seasonal and pet-themed specials that complement our original movies and primetime series for a riveting viewing experience,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks. “From animal advocacy to celebrating the seasons and life’s treasured moments, these original specials are sure to resonate with viewers.”
The robust slate of original specials includes previews for seasonal franchises, hosted by fan-favorite talent, giving the audience an exclusive sneak-peek at upcoming original movie premieres for programming events such as Fall Harvest, Countdown to Christmas and more. As the holiday season is in full swing, viewers will be treated to two all-new, one-hour specials to help make their homes merry and bright: “Christmas in America,” from Executive Producer Candace Cameron Bure, which highlights some of the funny, outlandish and heartwarming Christmas traditions around the country and “Amy Grant’s Tennessee Christmas” (wt), an inspiring look at Christmas in her home state featuring musical performances and personal, holiday memories.
Additionally, Hallmark Channel affirms its commitment to highlighting the joys of pet rescue and celebrating the triumphs of our four-legged friends with the “American Humane Hero Dog Awards,” “Kitten Bowl VI,” “2019 American Rescue Dog Show” which expands to a two-night event, and the first-ever “Cat Bowl,” a one-hour special featuring adult cats from past “Kitten Bowls” as they come together for an all-star game.
On Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, host Lori Loughlin will give sleuthers a preview of the second annual Garage Sale Mysteries month in August and audiences are sure to get into the holiday spirit early with the Miracles of Christmas preview. I wasn't sure where to leave this comment as it doesn't have anything to do with this post...sorry. I am wondering if you have any info on where Mark is on "Home & Family?" Apparently I've been WAY out of the loop! I see that Debbie is still the host, and is in fact listed as the only host. Why is Mark no longer on the show? I liked him.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Thank you for the question regarding Home & Family. Mark Steines, who I have always enjoyed as one of the hosts of the show from the very beginning, was unfortunately let go for "creative reasons." That's all the public knows. Since his absence, various guest stars have taken his place, but now Cameron Mathison has been named the new permanent co-host. While I like Cameron Mathison, I must admit I have mixed feelings on the departure of Mark and other members of the show who are no longer there. I hope this information helps to answer your question.

Thanks for your answer, Net. "Creative reasons," what does that even mean? Sounds like a nice way of saying, "we don't like you anymore. Lets get someone fresh." I too have mixed feelings. I hate it when there are shake-ups to the people I love and the show I expect. Cameron is a great host however, so I know he will do a good job....but I really like Mark. Thanks for the information. I knew I could count on you to know.
DeleteNet, may God forgive me and I pray I am wrong but sadly Mark my have went "by the way of" our beloved Christine. The emphasis of age and appearance has affected all aspects of TV even a show like Home and Family. I hope this isn't the case for Hallmark but beware cast if you're ever asked to take a "much needed vacation"!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I agree... it does seem that is the way of it. I just googled to see Cameron's and Mark's age difference, though, and it isn't all the much. Cameron is 48 and Mark is 54. But, I still think even that small age gap and appearance, as you mentioned, and celeb popularity were all factors.
DeleteMy Momma loved to see Sophie's health tips, but now she is no longer needed, it seems. Another craft segment is more important, I suppose, than encouraging and helping people live a healthy lifestyle. And, craft segments can be fun to see, but there's quite a lot of them in a two hour show. Your "vacation" comment is sadly very true.
How sad that this is what Hallmark has come too. :( Though I'm not surprised that it is more about appearances and money (isn't it always) but I always like to think Hallmark is different. But when it come down to it, everything is a marketing gimmick, whatever they think will sell the best. You two make valid points. I still love the channel and the shows but, more and more I'm losing the respect I once had for Hallmark. So sad. :(
