Before Erin Krakow stepped into the frontier-era shoes of Elizabeth Thatcher, popular British actress Poppy Drayton portrayed the role in the first "When Calls the Heart" movie. Poppy is now returning to the Hallmark Channel in the Spring Fever movie, "Home by Spring," developed by the well-known country singer Kix Brooks, of the popular duo Brooks and Dunn. (you know... "Boot, Scootin', Boogie"!!!) See "Home by Spring" movie details below!

Net, I often wondered why the original Elizabeth didn't continue on in the series. My curiosity is getting the better of me; do you happen to know why? "Home by Spring" looks like it has a good story line; I'll be tuned in.
ReplyDeleteThat is a question, Linda, I have often wondered myself. Poppy was such a spitfire and delight to watch in the original "When Calls the Heart" movie, but for some reason they re-casted her role and the Mountie (his name was Edward) that accompanied her to Hope Valley in the original movie. Perhaps, it was just a production call to do so, or it was due to actor availability or geography. I do know, immediately following the "When Calls the Heart" movie, Poppy had a role in the Downton Abbey Christmas special, and then she was busy doing Theatre in London after that. Whatever the case, I know we all love Erin Krakow in the TV series role as Elizabeth Thatcher, so it was definitely meant to be! But, I'm glad to finally see Poppy return to Hallmark... hope she brings some of that dynamic, spitfire spirit she had as Elizabeth Thatcher to her role in "Home by Spring!"
DeleteThank you, Net, and yes, she was a spitfire and I'm glad she's back with Hallmark and hope she does much more. We have all fallen in love with our Elizabeth and Jack and "God willing" will be around for a long, long time!
ReplyDeleteI loved this movie! It seemed different from others Hallmark has done recently: the setting, storyline, actors, etc. The cast was great! Also, I loved Poppy's wardrobe. Any ideas of any of the pieces she wore? :)
