PLOT:
Storyline via Hallmark: When struggling pastry chef Kylie Watson (Chabert) learns she’s made it to the finals of the American Gingerbread Competition, she thinks her competitive spirit has finally paid off and hopes the publicity will help her jumpstart her new café. There’s just one problem — the oven she’s supposed to use breaks down right before the contest. Determined to enter, she reaches out to Nick Mazannti (Coco), her old boyfriend from culinary school who gave up his dream of being a pastry chef to take over his family’s pizzeria. Nick allows her to use his industrial pizza oven at night to craft her ambitious gingerbread confections. As the two reminisce about the dreams of their youth, their romance is rekindled. But just as Kylie is on the cusp of taking the grand prize — and embracing true love — things get complicated when her ex-boyfriend takes drastic steps to win her back. Kylie realizes she must embrace the Christmas Spirit or risk losing both the contest and her new love.
Movie Review:
From the gingerbread creations to Lacey Chabert, this movie is, indeed, very Sweet!
In “The Sweetest Christmas “ Lacey portrays Kylie Watson, a young woman who is determined to win this year’s Gingerbread Competition - so she can win the prize money and potentially open her own bakery. In the meantime, her current office job is a means to an end, and her boss/boyfriend takes her completely for granted. When Kylie is nearly convinced he just might care about her more than work, he proposes, not marriage, but a higher employment position. To make matters even worse, this all takes place at her ex-boyfriend, Nick’s, restaurant.
With the gingerbread competition looming, Kylie focuses on that, but when her sister’s oven becomes unusable, Kylie must find a location to bake her gingerbread and create her masterpiece. Will Nick open up his restaurant and possibly his heart once again to Kylie?
I think this sweet Hallmark Happy Ending will leave you feeling full and satisfied!

DeleteLacey Chabert is the Sweetest! I'm so happy she's the one doing this movie. I look forward to her movies every year, even all the repeats!
ReplyDeleteAnd, there's Lane Edwards from Signed, Sealed, Delivered!
Sweet, Lacy!! I love everything she does!! So happy she did a Christmas 2017 for us all!! Great pics!!
ReplyDeleteJust hope I'm not expecting too much from this one - the plot sounds good and the pictures look great!
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching this movie and I enjoyed very much. Love Lacey Chabert! I really would like to know the song played at the end when Nick takes Kylie to the merry-go-round. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI really want to know to! I tried to shazam it while the movie was playing but got no results.
DeleteMe three!!!
DeleteI'm trying so hard to find it too. That movie was so heartwarming.
DeleteGeorge Canyon, Aaron Pritchett, One More Girl & Jordan McIntosh
DeleteI would also like to know the name of that song at the end of the movie, would like to buy it for this Christmas!
DeleteI found it. The song is called 'Home for Christmas' by Deep Wave featuring Janet Turner. You can find it on YouTube.
DeleteIt’s now abailable on iTunes: “Home for Christmas” by Deep Wave ($.99).
DeleteThanks for the song! I was looking for it too!!!
DeleteJust as sweet as I expected It to be. Lacey and Lea were better together than I had anticipated.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who sings the same my at the end of this movie? “Home for Christmas “?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Canyon, Aaron Pritchett, One More Girl & Jordan McIntosh
DeleteThat George Canyon song is definitely not the right song I checked. Here it is the first day of spring and I'm still trying to find that song hahaha
DeleteAnother Lacey hit! This was my favorite new movie of the weekend. I was not familiar with Lea Coco, but he was great, and he and Lacey played off each other really well. I loved Jonathan Adams as Ralphie. He added a great comedic touch. I'd love to see him return in future Hallmark movies.
ReplyDeleteI liked the movie, but was a bit disappointed. I grew up collecting the Good Housekeeping December gingerbread house issues so expected the entries to be more spectacular from what was implied to be a national contest. And I was confused that Lacey made a point of saying Ina wasn't an American but then one of the semi-finalists was from Montreal, implying one didn't have to be American for the American Gingerbread contest. Would have made more sense if it was called some kind of regional contest, like the New England gingerbread contest or something. Plus, watching it a second time I caught that this was supposedly Helen, Georgia. I Googled that and it is a real town with a Bavarian theme. However, the Wikipedia article says it averages half a day and half an inch of snow in December. Yet characters were walking outside with a couple of inches on the ground several different days. Must have been an exceptional year! Little nit picks I know, but would have been easy to fix with just a change of location or lack of snow. More Googling showed this was probably based on an annual National Gingerbread Contest in Asheville, NC. I don't know if that organization wouldn't let them use their name, or Hallmark just didn't want to. It would help explain the southern setting. Still an enjoyable Christmas movie.
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the points you brought up, Sue. Something that didn’t seem very realistic to me was Ina being a professional pastry chef entering a contest that was implied to be for amateurs. Wouldn’t that be some sort of ‘conflict of interest’? Also, if Kylie only had six days to create a competition entry, then how did she have time to single-handedly plan her office’s Christmas party, help Bobby make cupcakes for his class, and participate in decorating Bobby and Nick’s Christmas tree? I know that deadlines featured in Hallmark movies are not equivalent to real-life deadlines, but I find it hard to believe that someone, even if they were an expert chef, would be able to create a pastry masterpiece by themselves in just twelve hours. Despite everything I just mentioned, I thought the movie was decent, with a good cast and a great concept (Gingerbread contest/making gingerbread creations).
DeleteWhat was the song when he took her to the marry go round
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I have been trying to find out who sings the song at the end of the movie Home for Christmas. Cannot find it or Shazam it and we LOVE it. Does anybody know? We've tried Googling the lyrics and YouTube as well.

DeleteThis is the response I got from Hallmark:
ReplyDeleteThe music in our movies is purchased in packages designed for movies, Lisa. Unfortunately, it's not generally available to consumers. I'm sorry!“
“
But some of the songs are so good I want to hear it all day. Recently I discovered the song on Up's A Puppy for Christmas, the song is sooooo gooood, I don't even know the title but I have shazammed it, googled it, I think it is Cant wait to do it all again next year. When they play the preview for With Love, Christmas, I feel like I hear it playing in the background during the preview, so maybe I will hear it again on Hallmark.
DeleteThe songs on Harvest Moon are some of my favorite, and I usually find those on Spotify. And of course, Jesse Metcalf songs are the best :)

DeleteThere's a lot of unhappy people about the last song on The Sweetest Christmas I don't understand why Hallmark is keeping this song a secret I don't know if I can continue to watch Hallmark year after year when they chooses not to make consumers happy this how we find out about all songs we hear them somewhere radio,tv,show or a movie. Very Disappointed in Hallmark
