Storyline via Hallmark: Those years of law school pay off for Emma but not in ways one would expect. When she finds out that her beloved ice-sculpting contest, part of her hometown’s Christmas festival, has been canceled, she springs into action. Determined to keep it going, she enlists sponsors and artists. Nick, the town’s ace artisan, isn’t interested in competing this year, but Emma wants him as her teammate. Considering what she’s managed to accomplish, Nick is impressed and signs on. They just might have a shot at winning this very special Christmas contest -- and a lot more.
Movie Review:
This movie about ice was very nice. It’s a sweet story of a woman, Emma, who dreams of winning an ice sculpting competition. When her usual partner, her father, can no longer compete by her side, she finds a new partner, Nick, who just may melt her heart.
There’s an interesting twist near the end I wasn’t expecting… (SPOILER ALERT) Emma believes her mother has no interest in her, other than her being a lawyer, but then it is revealed that her mother was a key factor in the town keeping the ice sculpting competition, which didn’t fit in their budget. This thoughtful gesture from her mother, warms Emma’s heart and frees her emotionally to follow her dreams.
This is a charming, relaxing sort of movie… a little slow sometimes, but still enjoyable in the end. This movie was obviously filmed in chilly weather with real snow and ice (of course)! From time to time, you can see their breath in the air as they speak, and their shivering is most definitely not pretend!
See or Skip:
Christmas Festival of Ice is a family-friendly film and a nice movie for a winter’s night.

It was! They filmed 20 minutes from where I live in Ontario :) lots of locals including myself were lucky to be cast as Extra's in the background :D
DeleteDamon & Taylor look good together! I'm really getting into all the Christmas movies this year.
ReplyDeleteI liked Rachel Boston's ice sculpture movie, but I hope this is not a copy-cat.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Wendy Crewson in a long time! It will be nice to see her again in a Christmas Movie!!
ReplyDeleteWendy Crewson was in Hobo Christmas & Santa Clause Trilogy. Isn't her first Hallmark Christmas movies?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I missed the ending(kids' interruption, lol)... what was Emma & Nick's final sculpture... and did they win?
ReplyDeleteWill there be another showing of 'Christmas Festival of Ice'?
ReplyDeleteYes, the next repeat showing is November 9 at 8pm EST. Unfortunately, I missed the first showings, as well... We had severe weather go through, which effected our satellite. I'm also hoping to catch this encore!
DeleteIt's always interesting to see how an actor makes the transition from playing "the other guy" to taking the lead role and Damon Runyan gives a good performance along with Taylor Cole.
DeleteIt moves at quite a slow pace but while it's not one of the best Hallmarks ever it's by no means the worst.
You could spend an enjoyable rainy afternoon watching this although it would be quickly forgotten.
An element of mystery is the best aspect of the movie and this was well executed - I never saw the twist at the end coming!
My daughter and I both love the plum color down coat Taylor Cole wore in Christmas Festaval of Ice. Can you tell me the brand or where I can buy it please. I would love to surprise my daughter for her birthday.
ReplyDeleteChristmas Festival of Ice I would like to be a release on Hallmark DVD
ReplyDeleteJust watched this for the first time since 2017 on DVD. It's such a lovely movie. Wish Hallmark didn't stop showing it after 2017. Along with Ice Sculpture Christmas. -Maria
