Which Hallmark Channel *CHRISTMAS* Movie did You like Best in 2016? (YOUR TAKE!)

In 2016, the Hallmark Channel premiered

*19 COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS* Movies!

Since there were so many Christmas movies to watch over all the networks during the Christmas season, I decided to give everyone the month of January to catch up.

Hopefully, you all have had a chance now to watch all of the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies because it's time once again for you to give...
"YOUR TAKE"!

image via: Hallmark Crown Media Family Networks

This is where you can share *Your Take* on the recent block of Original TV movies! In addition to the Hallmark Channel "Countdown to Christmas" movies (today), we will also be doing the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries "Most Wonderful Movies of Christmas" & Winterfest movies - soon! Stay tuned for those posts!

Please answer these 2 questions in the comments below...

1. Which Hallmark Channel "Countdown to Christmas" movie did you like/love the most?

(Okay, it may be too hard to pick just one here. So... if you like, you may pick your TOP THREE!)

2. Which Hallmark Channel "Countdown to Christmas" movie poster (above) do you like best?

(Again, it may be too hard to pick just one here. So... if you like, you may pick your TOP THREE here, too!)

Looking forward to hearing all your responses!!! Feel free to briefly share your thoughts on all the *Christmas* movies!!!

*Please note: Any comment that contains language or is demeaning to the actors intelligence, weight, or their overall appearance, etc... will not be published. If you didn't like a particular movie or the story, it's fine to share that. However, let's try to keep this positive of what we liked best about "Countdown to Christmas"! Thank you!

If you are wondering... Yes, I do have my favorite Christmas Movies, as well! In fact, I will be nominating 12 Christmas Movies from all the networks for the annual "It's a Wonderful Movie" Awards - Coming Soon! Your opinions/picks below may be a factor in the nomination process!

  1. Oh, Net ----I love when you do this!

Which Hallmark Channel "Countdown to Christmas" movie did I like/love the most?

    1 My Christmas Love
    2 Mistletoe Promise
    3 Christmas Cookies

Which Hallmark Channel "Countdown to Christmas" movie poster (above) do I like best?

    1 A Nutcracker Christmas
2 When Calls the Heart Christmas
    3 Love You Like Christmas

This was so hard – cuz I had oodles of favorites this year. Is it weird, I picked completely different movies for both questions? I mean, I liked all the movies, posters and all! If you asked me again in 5 minutes – I’m sure I could pick all different answers because I loved so many of them this year! Keep up the good work here! I love all the Christmas movies!

  6. Good idea to give a month's grace so we have a chance to digest everything.

Easy peasy for me - head and shoulders above the rest and also the best TV Movie of 2016 - A December Bride.

This simply had everything. Daniel Lissing and Jessica Lowndes were perfect together, parts of it were hilarious especially the first half hour or so of sparring between them.

Seth to Layla "Are you okay"?

Layla (in exasperated tone) "I'd be a lot better if you stopped asking me that".

Layla's brother quizzing her on the "engagement" - "Your dentist knows you better than that guy"

The facial expressions said as much as the dialogue - you really had to focus or you would miss a lot.

There were excellent perfromances from all the secondary characters and the ending from the decision that it was time to "end" the engagement to the denoument was probably the best Hallmark one of all time and the plot was well concocted.

The expression on Seth's face as he looks at Layla when they are pronounced man and wife just turns me to mush!

There's such a lovely feeling of well being when this is over and I've lost count of the number of times we've already rewatched this.

Second is Christmas Cookies - although a familiar plot Jill Wagner exudes such a natural warmth and Wes Brown complements her perfectly so that this is magical to watch although I wish they had made the ending more upbeat.

Third place goes to Christmas In Homestead, there's a wonderful human feeling to it.

    For the posters

    1 Dream Of Christmas
    2 Christmas In Homestead
    3 Love You Like Christmas

Interestingly I see you include A Rose For Christmas even though iy wasn't aired until this year.

Could I just re-iterate how wonderful the site is and all the hard work you put into it.

    1. Yes, you're right... technically "A Rose for Christmas" premiered on the first day of 2017, but it definitely belongs with this group. Hallmark included "A Rose for Christmas" in their list of 19 Countdown to Christmas movies - so I did, too!

Thank you for your sweet compliment on my site and for being a wonderful part of it by sharing in comments! :)

  9. Thank you so much for continuing to ask questions like this! Here are my picks and the reasons why:

    Favorite Movies:

    1. A Nutcracker Christmas (Everything about this movie was excellent! It was also the first as well as best attempt at creating an intriguing story primarily revolving around dance. Maybe Hallmark can collaborate with Trans Siberian Orchestra to create a musical Christmas movie?)

    2. My Christmas Love (Great story with a light hearted yet intriguing mystery. This movie contains one of the best plot twists in Hallmark movie history!)

    3. Every Christmas Has A Story (Another entertaining Christmas movie with an engaging mystery! Lori and Colin did not disappoint as the leads, as both of them are talented actors!)

    Best Posters:

    1. A Nutcracker Christmas (The spirit of a 2 hour movie was captured very well in one photo)

    2. Christmas List (It looks like a photo from real-life than a typical Hallmark movie poster)

    3. When Calls the Heart Christmas (I like the color coordination that was featured in this poster. Reminds me of the poster for "Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas")

I'm looking forward to the "It's a Wonderful Movie" Awards, as I'm interested in finding out which actors and movies get nominated!

  12. Oh fun! I love hearing everyone's favorites!

    Movies:
    1. My Christmas Love (Pure delight to watch that had me enthralled from the start. Fun premise and great twist.)

    2. Looks Like Christmas (Fantastic chemistry between the leads with great supporting characters. Had me laughing out loud throughout.)

    3. Sleigh Bells Ring (Very fun and funny. Again, laughed out loud a lot.)

    Posters:
    1. A December Bride (Love the wreath frame)
    2. A Nutcracker Christmas (Lovely costumes)
    3. My Christmas Dream (Like how David Haydn-Jones is looking at Danica McKellar)

I loved 10 out of those 19 movies (well, 18, because I never watched A Heavenly Christmas) and, though there were a few I liked less than others, there weren't any I disliked or wouldn't watch again. I really liked Journey Back to Christmas, A Nutcracker Christmas, and The Mistletoe Promise because they were something different from the norm, but my top favorites turned out to be the ones that made me laugh the most.

I love the Aurora Teagarden and Murder She Baked series. and they had really good Christmas movies too. So glad you will be doing one from that channel too, I guess I jumped the gun. I am Hallmark happy. My DVR is FULL of hallmark movies and I buy the dvd's too. I am addicted. I sometimes think I am the channel's top fan with the movies on my DVR and how often I watch them. I go to sleep to a Hallmark movie every night. Hallmarkaholic and proud of it.

Spring Fling is, indeed, just around the corner! Hallmark has already officially shared in a press release two titles: "Love at First Bark" and "Like Cats and Dogs!" There will be others, too, but Hallmark hasn't officially released those, yet, so we will have to wait and see! (whispering... "Campfire Kiss" with Danica McKellar & Paul Greene may be one of them!)

Thank you, again, Sabrina - so much! I'm so glad you enjoy the movies and my site!

Right now -- though I would not count on this date sticking, given how often Hallmark changes things around -- the Hallmark Channel website has "Campfire Kiss" debuting on Saturday, March 18th.

That date would make sense with what Danica said about a mid- or late March premiere, though I still don't fully trust that date to stay as is and not change.

    8. Sherry In CaliforniaMonday, February 06, 2017

I posted this at some point over the last couple of days, but I'm not sure if my comment got lost in Spam somewhere.

What I was saying is that, as of this moment, "Campfire Kiss" is on the Hallmark Channel website -- *supposedly* airing on Saturday, March 18th. That would fit with what Danica McKellar said (during filming of the movie) about CK debuting in mid-to-late March...

BUT... seeing how wonky this year's Countdown to Valentine's Day premiere schedule turned out to be -- with premiere dates getting shuffled around; one movie premiering on a Tuesday; and another movie disappearing from the line-up entirely -- I won't hold my breath about the premiere date for "Campfire Kiss."

Even though the premiere date may be subject to change, at least "Campfire Kiss" is on the Hallmark website now. Hopefully it will not premiere too much later than 3/18, though -- because, as it stands right now, it looks like there will be just about a month-long gap in the new movie premieres after "Love Blossoms" airs on 2/18.

After building up so much momentum with new movies every weekend (going as far back as Fall Harvest in 2016 and carrying all the way through to the current Countdown to Valentine's Day), a few consecutive weeks without new movies on the main channel will kill a lot of momentum. As popular as "When Call the Heart" is, I think that a lot of people only tune in for movies -- or the movies are at least of equal importance to them as WCTH. If I were Hallmark, I wouldn't want to risk losing a lot of the new viewers I gained during the Countdown to Christmas, by letting multiple weekends go by without any new movies on the main Hallmark Channel. Don't give the viewers a chance to get away!

At least there IS a Spring Fling, though. Otherwise there would be a huge void between the end of the Countdown to Valentine's Day and the start of June Weddings!!!

    9. Got both of your comments, Sherry!

It's great to see a potential spring date appear on Hallmark Channel's web-site for Danica McKellar and Paul Greene's "Campfire Kiss."

I noticed on my calendar that Spring actually doesn't start until March 20th - but nothing ever stops Hallmark from celebrating a Holiday or Season too early, does it?!?!

Thank you for sharing!!! :) Spring is coming!!!

  36. It's tough to choose just three. There were so many good ones this year. I wasn't too impressed with the Hallmark Christmas movies the last two years, but they outdid themselves this year. There were so many good ones released in 2013 and I was starting to think Hallmark would never be able to top those, but I think the 2016 movies did just that. I'm hoping a lot of the them will be released on DVD cause I'd love to buy most of them. Okay, if I had to pick my top three though....

My favorites from the 2016 group were easily:

    1. Christmas List
    2. My Christmas Love

Choosing a #3 is much, much harder. Choosing the top 2 was very easy.

I am not entirely sure what #3 would be -- possibly "My Christmas Dream," because little Christian Convery is adorable and he stole the whole movie.

But, to be honest, there were a lot of movies that I liked almost equally -- and any one of them could fill that #3 spot. I think that I will like some of them more over time, with additional viewings.

As for posters... I usually don't pay too much attention to the posters unless there is some really obvious Photoshop magic at work.

I guess I would say that the Journey Back to Christmas poster is the favorite.... just because, how often do we see a comet in the promo photo for a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie?

But I also like the poster for Christmas List, because Alicia is carrying the top end of her tree -- which reminds me of the funny scene in the movie in which she is dragging her tree down the street (until Gabriel comes along to help her).

My Christmas Love (kind of gives the story away, though! What were they thinking?)
Christmas Cookies (love Jill & Wes! Super cute together!)

  44. In looking over everyone's favorite movie selections, it's nice to see how mostly all (or maybe all?) of the movies have ended up on the lists. No obvious winners/losers! Something for everyone!

For my selections, I am going with two movies, because they were by far my favorites for the year:

    1. A Nutcracker Christmas - A nice story, and the combination acting and skating by the three leads was fantastic!

    2. My Christmas Love - Great chemistry between the leads with a lot of humor -- something missing in a lot of past years' Hallmark Christmas movies.

As for the poster, I am going with A Nutcracker Christmas.

Looking forward to seeing your selections later, Net!

    2. Being the kind of person who can't resist lists and statistics and all that fun stuff, I went back over everyone's comments to tally up how many times each movie was mentioned (not counting for posters), and you're right, Mark. Each of the 19 movies appears on at least one list. "My Christmas Love" seems to be the one the majority agree on, appearing on 22 lists, but most of the rest are well represented too. It's really fun to see everyone's choices.

A little of the whys of my choices. 

My reasons for the posters is a combination of the aesthetics, colors, and character placement. I like the posters that showcase BOTH leads, rather than just one. Hallmark tends to favor the female actors. I’m a girl so I too like “girl power” but I always feel bad for the guys. They are given the second best mentality. :( (Call me crazy!) Every time I see a movie poster where the girl if pictured in front of the guy or bigger than the guy, who is happily standing three feet behind his lady friend, it makes me frown. I like seeing the two leads together, both in front. That’s one reason I really like the “A Dream of Christmas” poster; the leads look like they like each other, they are both facing the camera, and are equally displayed. All three of my choices have similar feels of equality. “December Bride” is very fun with the wreath circling the happy couple. And “My Christmas Love” is a perfect fit for the story, giving off a fun, spunky feel (even the writing says fun and spunky!).

“My Christmas Love” was a fun, spunky (as noted earlier!), charming movie. It was a complete joy to watch. I loved all the characters and the two leads had amazing chemistry! I really felt like I was a part of their love story, I was so invested in seeing how they were going to get together. There was a touch of mystery that was both intriguing and comical. I laughed a lot in this movie! The main character was so comical in her quest to solve the mystery of the gift giver that I couldn’t help but smile! She was spunky and vivacious! Meredith Hagner is perfect in the role! Meridith, Bobby Campo, and Gregory Harrison, Megan Park, and Ben Gavin were cast perfectly in these roles! I also love how important family is to the characters. They love each other and have some very touching moments (father-daughters, sister-sister, father-son-in-law). The singing and dancing (centered around the “Twelve Days of Christmas”) is SO fun! All in all, a fun, feel good, heartwarming movie.

“The Mistletoe Promise” gets better each time I watch it! I loved the character development and the love and friendship that changes their (the main characters) lives. Two people with things in their pasts that they are struggling to conquer find strength in each other, and together overcome. Truly a beautiful message. The two leads had great chemistry! The fit very well together. :) I love Luke Macfarlane and the every time he looks at Elise in the movie it just touches my heart. I was rooting for these two people the whole movie long!

“Sleigh Bells” was actually a pleasant surprise for me. I liked it far more than I thought I would. But first, David Alpay is SUCH a GREAT actor! After watching this and “Ice Sculpture Christmas,” I will watch him in anything! :) This movie was fun and just made me smile. As someone mentioned earlier, they like the movies that make them laugh. Well I do too. This one had some comical comments, especially David Alpay’s character, Alex. Alex was full of quippy comebacks. :) Betty, the assistant and her husband, Wade, were a fun addition too. Their romance was so sweet and the mystery of “what is Wade up to” was fun. (Wade does something so adorably sweet for his wife….loved it!). Overall, a great movie!

PS. Thanks for putting this fun voting together!!

    1. Loved reading your comment! Great descriptions of your choices, and I totally agree with everything you said. I, too, was very impressed with David Alpay in both "Ice Sculpture Christmas" and "Sleigh Bells Ring." I hope he keeps doing Hallmark movies!

I know just what you mean about feeling bad for the guys! It always bothers me when sometimes the guy isn't even mentioned in a promo. As you said, I'm all for "girl power," but not at the expense of the guys!

  48. My favorite movie this year was from HMM: Love Always, Santa -- it made me laugh and cry! The little girl (Isadora Swann) stole the movie! Hard to believe she was scooped up from Community Theatre in Minnesota! She is a very talented girl! Hope she continues to shine in future Hallmark endeavors!

  49. Three favorites: 1) Christmas Cookies 2) A Wish for Christmas 3) Sleigh Bells Ring
Posters: It's very difficult to pick between posters that seem to assembled by the same graphics team. They all feature the main characters, with some distinct holiday themed accessories...complete with wintry settings...nice, but rather boring and mundane!
I must say that I thought the overall group of 2016 movies were a step down from the 2015 crop. Weaker storylines and vanilla performances. It bothers me to state this because I truly enjoy the Hallmark holiday movies. Please ask the writers/producers/directors/actors to "step up their game."

    1. Wonderful how we all see things very differently!

I was really worried about the 2016 crop of Christmas Movies as Hallmark had expanded the number significantly and I was worried that they might be sacrificing quality for quantity based on the last few years.

However as far as I was concerned 2016 was a much better year overall than 2014 and 2015.

  54. I liked Rose For Christmas (2017) of all these.

To be honest, the posters are all a little samey and show that there should be more than just romance films for Christmas. It makes the contest hard to judge for me.

These are good movies but there really should be more variety in future lineups for the festive season. Hallmark can afford the tab to bring back other genres into Christmas again. Hope that happens. :)

  55. I prefer the movies that use some kind of Higher Power (Santa, angels, and higher) to drive the story. So, the movie I enjoyed most was A Heavenly Christmas. Next up was A wish for Christmas. As Christmas romances, I enjoyed Every Christmas Has a Story and Broadcasting Christmas, as they were filled with the spirit of the holiday. Too many of this last year of movies were merely romances that happened to be holiday-adjacent. And why does Hallmark employ so many actresses who have cheekbones that go up to here and clearly have no mortal equals? Give me Lacey Chabert and Alicia Witt!

  56. It is very difficult to select just 3 movies as there were so many good ones. My favorite 3 Christmas movies were: 1) Christmas in Homestead, 2)My Christmas Love, and 3)A December Bride. Although, I also really liked A Dream of Christmas and Sleigh Bells Ring. If I remember right, the ones from HMM I liked were A Christmas to Remember(loved seeing Mena Sorvino in a Hallmark movie) and Love Always, Santa. I'd buy all these and more if they were on dvd. My dvr is at least 60% HM and HMM movies and I have around 40 or so I bought. Love HM and HMM movies as you can watch them and not be offended. Good work. RG

    1. Hello CH Mom! I love all of those Christmas movies, too! The only reason I didn't include the first two here is because both "A Christmas to Remember" and "Love Always, Santa" are Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas movies and this list is for the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies.

I just put up today a separate post for all the HMM Christmas movies - here - so I hope you see this message and please if you do, come on over and share your favorite HMM Christmas movies there, too!

Thank you so much for commenting & sharing! Blessings on your day! Net :)

    2. Oh goodness I didn't realize this post was specific to Hallmark Channel! Thank you for pointing that out, Net!

In that case my only favorite was My Christmas Dream. I feel like HMM movies had better Christmas offerings than hallmark channel in 2016. I do like Journey Back to christmas' poster which was very unique and intriguing.

Thank you for keeping us updated with this website! I visit your blog more often than the Hallmark channel website itself lol.
