'Sandra Brown's White Hot' relates the story of Sayre Hoyle (Grimes-Beech), a single and strikingly beautiful interior designer, enjoying success in San Francisco after running away from her Louisiana hometown, where her family still resides, a decade ago. When she learns of her brother's unexpected death, Sayre returns to her small town to attend his funeral, and revisits the strained relationship she's always had with her father, Huff Hoyle, (Schneider) a corrupt factory owner who lords over his employees - and most of the town - using fear and intimidation. There, Sayre meets Beck Merchant (Faris), Huff's handsome attorney, who immediately takes an interest in her. Though it's widely believed her brother died from an accidental gunshot wound, Sayre soon begins to suspect foul play, and turns the town upside down when she launches her own investigation, attempting to discover the truth behind his tragic passing. Uncovering a web of dark secrets, lies, cover ups and revenge plots, Sayre struggles with family dynamics, terrifying threats and local law-enforcement officials. Despite becoming more and more attracted to Beck - and maybe even falling in love - Sayre remains determined to prove her brother was murdered and bring his killer to justice.

There are so many great movies coming up, I can't wait. Hallmark has the best movies on TV and something the whole family can watch.
Watching the movie and so obvious that this was not filmed in Louisiana. How many mentions of Louisiana, yet the landscape and houses and so no Louisiana. Who knew there were mountains in South Louisiana. How to ruin a movie.

ReplyDeleteTotal disappointment, i waited weeks for this movie....even re-read the book just in time for its premier, guess i shouldn't have...the script writers certainly didn't. From the start the alterations to the story were glaring, key parts glossed over, total re-writes to main story lines - it was frustrating. Then again it is hallmark - i guess this disneyfied version of a gritty, sortid, twisted story was inevitable. Sandra would do better with cable, Hallmark doesn't do her work justice.
ReplyDeleteYeah I don't like when Hallmark adapts certain books for movies because they change the storylines too much. Even if its an already family friendly story sometimes they take some of the best parts out of the book to sell their narrative.
DeleteBooks often get adapted and content isn't always the same. Sometimes worse. Sometimes better. They only have about 90 minutes, so they can't include everything. Good to see Hallmark keep this family friendly.

ReplyDeleteI, for one, am glad Hallmark continues to take the high road. I watched this movie with a mixed group of people in my home and wondered if I should, but Hallmark didn't let me down. Nothing made me squirm. We were all entertained and we didn't think anything was lacking. We don't need sex scenes to make a movie and Hallmark gets that. Thank you Hallmark!
ReplyDeleteIf sex is a big part of the book then Hallmark shouldn't make a movie out of the book. And its not just sex scenes. Sometimes sexual tension plays a big role in a book but
DeleteAgreed, you can't take a book that is steeped in "non-family" content and attempt to make it family friendly...if you enjoyed the movie, i doubt you would have enjoyed the book...and sex had nothing to do with it, this book didn't have any blatant sex. Hallmark should sick to books that fall in their family friendly guideline and leave the grit and suspense to the other channels.
DeleteDid anyone think the accents were really bad? Also, why was the lawyer Beck Merchant popping up all the time- he was almost in every scene- it was like stalker-ish how he always knew where the main character was.
ReplyDeleteI was so disappointed in this made-for-TV movie. I have read the book. The sexual component aside, they basically turned Sayre into a weak woman. She was a fiery, red-headed, independent person that turned to milk toast on this screen. I like Hallmark and their family-friendly movies. I believe this book could have been made for TV without a heavy sexual component and still had a strong lead character and followed the story more closely.
ReplyDeleteThis movie was very engaging and a good mystery, which kept me guessing, or at least questioning my theories, throughout. I thought the lead actress did a fine job, and I rooted for her to figure things out. However, I just did not like Beck, at all. I didn't think the two leads had good chemistry. And I really don't get why the lead female would want to continue a relationship with him. It's disappointing when some Hallmark movies put two leads together who's characters don't make a good couple to me. Aside from that, I thought this "White Hot" was a good mystery.
