PLOT:
This heartwarming holiday comedy tells the story of a young relationship advice columnist who learns a surprising lesson about love when her holiday flight to New York takes an unexpected detour.
With Christmas only a few days away, Paige Summerland (Bure), a Los Angeles magazine writer specializing in relationship advice, boards an eastbound flight to spend the holiday with her fiancé, Jack (Rosner), meet his parents for the first time and plan her upcoming “dream wedding.” Paige’s enthusiasm turns to panic when a massive snowstorm detours her flight and she meets - and locks horns with - Dylan (Greene), a cynical bar manager who has lost his faith in love. When it looks like all hope of arriving in New York for Christmas is lost, Dylan surprises Paige by renting an SUV and offering her a ride. Reluctantly, Paige braves the snowy road trip with Dylan, joined by Frank and Maxine Harper (Lewis and Strange), an older couple whose 20-year marriage has lost its spark. Along the journey, feelings start to develop between Paige and Dylan. Now, as the young bride-to-be scrambles to make it to New York for Christmas, she begins to wonder if she’s marrying the right man and just might learn a surprising lesson about love.
Movie Review:
Hallmark Channel’s “A Christmas Detour” starring Candace Cameron Bure and Paul Greene will take you on an unexpected ride of adventure, friendship, and love!
Meticulous magazine writer Paige Summerland (Candace Cameron Bure) thinks she has her life completely mapped out, as she boards her plane with her vision board in hand, with her intended destination to be with her fiancée and his parents for Christmas. But when bad weather cancels her flight mid-air, Paige's life takes an unexpected detour upon meeting another passenger, Dylan MacKenzie (Paul Greene), a free-sprit who is mysteriously reluctant on going home for Christmas, and a friendly couple, Frank and Maxine, who have been married for years and are visiting their daughter for Christmas.
When Paige finds out there are no means of travel, she shares her disappointment with fellow travelers, Frank and Maxine. Even with every form of public transportation closed, Paige becomes even more determined, yet helpless to find a way.
In the meantime, Dylan just may have a plan to get them all to their destination on time. Frank and Maxine are game, but it might take a bit more convincing to get the always in control Paige to go along for the ride.
Candace Cameron Bure ("Let it Snow", "Just the Way You Are") is ideally cast as the straight laced romantic optimist Paige Summerland who is certain that finding love is as simple as checking off a grocery list.
Paul Greene ("Perfect Match") is terrific as Dylan MacKenzie, who is not as optimistic about love, but has a lighthearted easy-going spirit.
David Lewis ("For Better or for Worse") and Sarah Strange ("Garage Sale Mystery") are perfect as Frank and Maxine Harper, the comical couple who re-kindle their love and have a great on-screen connection. Loved them!
Barbara Niven ("Cedar Cove", "Murder She Baked") was fantastic as the rich, snooty Susan Collins, the Mother-in-Law to be, who is obviously not taken by the idea of her beloved son, Jack (Marcus Rosner, "When Calls the Heart"), marrying Paige Summerland.
All in all, "A Christmas Detour" was a fun film about unanticipated events and chance happenings, that all come together in the end... where each character finds the place they were meant to be!
So, buckle up and come along - I truly think you will enjoy the journey!

Oh, joy, I love all Candace's Christmas movies and this one sounds great, too! I think Paul Greene will compliment Candace perfectly....not too keen on Marcus......wonder why??
ReplyDeleteOh, poor Marcus! He needs a movie where he gets the girl!
DeleteI'm excited to see Candace in another Christmas movie, too... it's become an annual tradition for her and Lacey Chabert!
Hey, it was 50 degrees in Buffalo this year. Nevertheless it was a good movie.
DeleteThey are fabulous together!!!!
DeleteWell it's nice to see Candace starting to step out of her usual Christmas movie comfort zone, where she was doing the same exact type of Christmas movies every year. This one has a different plot, and it sounds similar to last year's One Starry Christmas. That is one of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies, and I'm not sure I'll like A Christmas To Remember nearly as much (I'm not a fan of Candace's movies, to be quite honest), but I'll no doubt check it out. Like I said, at least it's a different storyline for her....so there's that. Lol.
ReplyDeleteYes, this sounds like a different movie storyline for Candace. I also thought - it sounded a lot like 'One Starry Christmas'. I'm hoping the love story won't seem as rushed as it does in 'Starry'.
DeleteIt's interesting each persons take on a movie. I didn't find the love story in One Starry Christmas as rushed as other Hallmark movies. It is one of my all time favorites. I hope I like this new holiday movie with Candace more than the one last year.
DeleteI need to watch it again... but I thought she only knew the cowboy for two days. Maybe that's all it takes. I just wish they could have made it seem a bit longer, maybe had the dancing party, a different night than the family dinner, or have the girl visit him at the rodeo. They are cute together, and who doesn't love a cowboy?!?!
DeleteYay glad for another fun Christmas movie coming this season. We never tire of those! I think I saw Paul in another Hallmark movie, but I've not seen his latest though I'm sure it was really cute. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always excited to hear the names and cast list for the upcoming Christmas movies, too... just knowing they will be added to the ever-growing collection of films we'll watch and look back on for this Christmas Season & years to come, is so fun!!!
DeleteI have Perfect Match recorded... haven't watched it, yet... but I am looking forward to doing so... as soon as I have the chance. I think it looks super cute, too! :)
I love Candace's movies too! Can hardly wait to see it! Thank You!
ReplyDeleteYou're Welcome! I knew you would all enjoy hearing the Christmas Movie details and seeing these behind the scenes pics! I'm looking forward now - to seeing the official poster and press images!
DeleteI am glad to see Sarah Strange in a Christmas movie. I have been a fan of hers for years, and love her as the sidekick in the Garage Sale mysteries.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that this movie plot sounds awfully familiar, but heck, think how many versions of the "corporate exec goes to small town to shut down the main industry and falls in love in the process" movies there are. I love some of those moves, and others are just "meh".
Thanks for your hard work, Net.
You are so right, Deb... They do that same city guy coming to the small town to shut it down, then save it, all the time, and I still love it and cheer for those sweet, always friendly and neighborly country folks.
DeleteMaybe, we also enjoy the sweet simplicity of a stories familiarity. I know I do, and yet, I also enjoy a unique plot, much like both HMM Christmas Movies last year, Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas and The Christmas Secret. In both cases, there was such unique, creative storytelling, beyond just the main girl and guy falling in love!
I'm also glad to see you discovered an actress you like, from another Hallmark movie... I love trying to remember, from what movie, I've seen a particular actor or actress! So fun!
Thank you so much, Deb, for your comment & compliment! :)

ReplyDeleteI so agree! Candace makes fun Christmas Movies!!!
DeleteMe too! I was afraid that with all her new acting projects, she wasn't going to have time to be in another Christmas movie. I'm so glad to hear that she is. Looking forward to it!
DeleteDoes Candace sing the song that played while they were dancing?
DeleteMy least favorite Candace Cameron Bure movie. I was sad because I usually love her movies. So far A Crown for Christmas has been one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. As much as I adore CCB in real life, I just didn't find her character all that likeable--it wasn't believable to me that Dylan started to fall in love with her because we didn't see enough of WHY she was a neurotic control freak, nor was she allowed to be cute and endearing despite her hang ups.
Deleteloved it...where can we hear her daughter sing the theme song
ReplyDeleteI love Candace, no matter what she does. I feel she can hold her own...but.....I did like "Let It Snow" much better. I think Jesse was a perfect match for her personality even though Paul was a looker!! Would love to see another movie with Candace and Jesse.
ReplyDeleteI loved Candace in this movie! It was perfect for her. One of the best she's done in years. Let it Snow is good, but she and Paul Greene together was even better!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone who loved Candace Cameron Bure in A Christmas Detour. It was a winner for me, too! So far, I would have to say it's the best Hallmark has had to offer this Christmas movie season. Candace was also so cute introducing all the movies. I was hoping it would be more hosting segments than that, as that was the only let down for me. Otherwise cute Christmas flick - can't wait to watch during Hallmark's repeat showings!
ReplyDeleteOne of Candace's BEST Christmas movies!
ReplyDeleteLove Candace and loved this movie! Super cute fun story. Kind of predictable, but I liked the all the fun surprises along the way.
ReplyDeleteThis movie is one of the worst Hallmark Christmas movies I've seen. The dialogue is boring, tiresome. Candace who I usually enjoy in movies - her character in this movie is just annoying. The Alicia Witt, Sarah Lancaster, and Lacey Chabert Xmas movies have been terrific and so has Candace's other movies, but this one has terrible writing.
ReplyDeleteThis was pretty cute.
ReplyDeleteI really like the movie! Does anyone know the name of the song that was playing in the Dancer Pud? That says "I'll be on time for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteI am wondering the same. Very pretty song. At the end of the Premier, I thought Candace said it was her daughter.
DeleteNo, her daughter sang a different song. I am still trying to find the "I'll Be On Time For Christmas", but not having any luck. The name of the song she sang is " The Only Gift". You can find it at http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=song+tracks+for+christmas+detour+movie&view=detail&mid=3C580A09E83F4AD903C93C580A09E83F4AD903C9&FORM=VIRE3
DeleteI've looked all over the Internet for that song. Cant find anything about it, anywhere.
DeleteI barely got a shazam of it and it came up as Missing You by Alan Paul Ett. It's on the album Songs for Christmas-different chorus lyrics but the melody and voice sound the same as in the movie.
DeleteThx. I found it. Same music. Jus the lyrics are a little different.
DeleteI'm also wondering if anyone knows who sings "I'll Be On time for Christmas"...I've searched everywhere and cannot find it!
ReplyDeleteSeems we all want to know who sings the song I'll be home for Christmas would nice to find it
DeleteI have been looking for it also!!! Wish we could find it!!!
DeleteIt sounds like Candace!!!!
DeleteI'm not sure who the artist, but it's definitely not Candace. Her daughter did sing a (different) special song, "The Only Gift," for the movie that they compiled Bure family pics and videos with, plus images from the movie.
DeleteIf someone has this movie on DVD, I'm sure it's listed in the credits.
Net -- I could be mistaken, but I think that Jessica Mellott is the one who sang & co-wrote "On Time for Christmas." I looked her up a few years ago when I wondered about the song, so I had her Facebook page saved in case I ever needed to reference it! https://www.facebook.com/jessicamellottmusic/posts/10153443841869737?comment_id=10153486464494737
DeleteAfter seeing the movie again tonight I am still trying to find who sings the song when they are dancing. "On Time for Christmas". If anyone knows the answer and where you can purchase this song, please post.
DeleteI wish I knew, too... I'm sure it would be in the credits of the DVD.
DeleteThis movie was GREAT! I found it to be very funny - especially the "old married couple".
ReplyDeleteThis is one of our favorites!
ReplyDeleteAlso rewatched this classic on DVD. Still love it! -Maria
