The Grinch that Stole Christmas in July!

I received an interesting comment over the weekend from an Anonymous follower:

"thought you would like to know that an facebook page is stealing your stuff and not giving you credit https://www.facebook.com/CTC2011?fref=nf"

I wasn't sure what the anonymous commenter meant  - until I visited this Facebook account and saw that they had completely copy and pasted in their timeline (in probably 2 seconds), the "Christmas in July" Hallmark schedule, which took me over an hour to put together. I was so excited to find all the Hallmark Christmas movies and share them here with all of you! And, that is my goal, to share it - with others... however, I would have preferred they had simply shared a link to my site, instead of copying directly from me.

I am trying to contact the owner of this Facebook account, via e-mail, and kindly ask them to remove my list, and share a link to my site, instead.

If any of you, would like to ask, via Facebook, that would be great. Here's a direct link, to the posting:

Please ask them to remove the Christmas in July schedule, and share a link to my site, instead:

I appreciate all your help with my site and it is always my goal to give credit where credit is due.

Thank you all, Net

  3. Boo!! Not sure how you do this... I am sure an IT person could help you. But I know you can make your page not right clickable. That way they can not steal (copy/paste) your stuff.

  4. If I had facebook, I would let them know it is wrong to copy somebody else's site. It's not right and we appreciate all the great movie information you give us day by day, week after week. Please don't be discouraged.

  5. While I absolutely understand and respect your frustration, and agree it is very poor netiquette to copy-paste text from someone else's site without even a simple attribution or "thanks to" notation, this is NOT copyright infringement. The information is public and accessible; it is a published schedule, not unique, created content. If they had pasted one of your movie reviews, and represented it as their own then, yes, that is infringing. But lifting a schedule from a third party, no matter how long it took you to enter, is simply poor form, not against any laws. Again, I am in no way saying it was right to simply cut and paste your work, just clarifying the terminology.

If things like Hallmark’s schedule were actually copyrighted, it would be by the Hallmark Channel themselves and this site would actually be in violation and couldn’t share the information we all enjoy.

    1. You are correct. It is not copyright infringement, and I personally, never referred to it, as such. As you said, and I agree, it is very poor netiquette. Must say, I like this play on words!

I don't wish to be disagreeable with whoever runs this Facebook page... I just would simply like to request that instead of copying my site- they add a link, in the future. Thank you for being understanding.
