Barry Watson and Marla Sokoloff star in "The Chateau Meroux"

MOVIE REVIEW

Movie: The Chateau Meroux

Network: Hallmark Channel

Original TV Air Date: March 21, 2015

Rated: PG-13

*This movie first came out in 2011, and was released on DVD in 2012.

*Reviews appear to be mixed on this movie at Amazon. I was surprised to see many reviewers say the movie has many "awkward sexual jokes and innuendos". While I like both Marla Sokoloff and Barry Watson, as actors, I wanted to be sure to share this - because this doesn't sound like the "G" rated movies we are used to, on the Hallmark Channel.

  1. Those comments on the reviews page sound weird. I wouldn't place too much emphasis on those reviewers because the Hallmark Channel has such a great thing going and why would they change from their normal G rated movies and experiment with off color humor? I really like both actors and can't wait for this movie.

    1. I agree, Susan, Hallmark shouldn't waver from their successful G rated movies, and yet, they do play a few movies that are more PG-13, in my opinion... such as: Fools Rush In and See Jane Date. Both include scenes that give them an "S" rating and are not morally acceptable for family viewing. Neither one of these movies, as well as the one above, are Hallmark Channel Original Movies, so they hand picked them out to play. I'm concerned that they are testing the waters, to see if people will watch and accept these movies, even though they are not the G movies, Hallmark typically plays.

  2. Vaguely remember renting it back when this came to DVD. It was "okay" as I recall, but nothing I wanted to rewatch time and again. Perhaps Hallmark will be "editing" some of the dialogue when they air it. If so, it's probably the perfect fit. :)

    1. Good point, Rissi! Let's hope there is some editing involved -before it's airing on Hallmark! The reviewers on Amazon were pretty brutally honest in their dislike for the film and all the sexual references.

  3. I started watching this movie and stopped it within the first 15 minutes because of the sexual innuendos. While they could be considered mild by some, I found them offensive and was surprised they were in a Hallmark movie. I was highly disappointed.

    1. Thank you, Stephanie... for sharing your views on this film. I have never seen it, myself, since all the reviews on Amazon cautioned me from doing so. I appreciate you sharing and confirming, what others said of this movie.

  4. I ordered this movie from Amazon (without seeing it first) and was so disappointed. Was not what I expected it to be. To many sexual innuendos for me. I returned it. Cami

  5. We just love Hallmark Movies. We watch Hallmark because it has good wholesome movies and no sex or bad words. I hope this is not going to be something that is added to Hallmark and changes what we love about Hallmark.

  6. I bought this movie a year ago because it looked cute and I too love the actors. I was very disappointed. It was too sexual for my tastes. I have not seen it on the Hallmark channel so I do not know if it has been edited. However, the 2012 DVD release is one I will not watch again, which is sad because the story line was fair and the acting alright. I do not want to watch the implications and innuendos, and I wouldn't want a child to watch them either.
