ABC FAMILY’s 2014 Countdown to “25 Days of Christmas” - missing something?

"Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas" on ABC Family airs Sunday, November 23 - Sunday, November 30, 2014.

After looking over the "Christmas" countdown schedule, I realized something very important seems to be missing in ABC FAMILY’s annual Countdown to “25 Days of Christmas” television event. This year it seems to have very little, believe it or not, "CHRISTMAS"!

Typically, during ABC Family's countdown event in November, leading up to the 25 days of Christmas, we could look forward to seeing many Christmas Movies, and maybe a new Christmas Premiere Movie, as well... but not this year.

Movie highlights included during the countdown to the 25 days event are: Finding Nemo, A Cinderella Story, Another Cinderella Story, A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Cars 2, Ratatouille, Mirror Mirror, Brave, Despicable Me, Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas (which is rather creepy and more Halloween-like), Home Alone 3, (which is set in winter, but not Christmas), etc... and finally a true Christmas Movie – National Lampoons Christmas Vacation airs November 29, 2014 at 10PM/9c. (please know: although this will be the edited TV version of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, it will still contain language.)

  1. Every year it seems to get worse with ABC Family. At least in prime time. So this doesn't surprise me.

    1. You are so right, Casey. It does get worse every year. I'm not surprised, either. They'll probably drop the whole thing next year or rename it.

  2. Very disappointing and not at all anything on this list that we would make time for to enhance our Christmas viewing.

  3. Very disappointing. Again. Last few years, the entire 25 Days til Christmas has been disappointing. Seems everytime I turned it on, it was a Harry Potter movie! With all the wonderful Christmas shows available, you would think they could show more of those!

    1. You are so right. They re-play so many movies and then they leave out the movies many of us want to see. So typical.

  4. actually this has been going on for years. Last yr they had a marathon of Charlie brown movies on black Friday and other toons (such as Winnie the pooh and the blustery day), Pixar marathons, etc till Dec 1st. On previous years they would promote Harry Potter marathon like crazy. I do not like it but this is not the first year for them to do that as my son's dvr still has some of those marathons recorded from last year before the 25 days schedule started.

    1. Yes, they've been easing away from it for years. Still is very disappointing... especially since they are not even airing a new Christmas movie this year during the 25 days of Christmas. :(

  5. ABC "Family" is not a family channel, so this is no surprise what they consider "Christmas". Their movies usually aren't any good, so I don't watch them anyway.

    1. I tried to save money through Direct tv to try and save $ they had a Family package which was HGTV, Food, science, DYI, hallmark, kids networks, insp but ABC Family was not it. This only supports Misti's statement. Some of the original shows are not family friendly.

    2. Sure wish there was an option to do that with my Comcast (which is still on the fritz...lol). Those are the only stations I basically watch.

    3. Misty - you nailed it! ABC Family certainly isn't a family channel anymore. They really ought to change their name!

5 - That is quite interesting that ABC Family isn't included in the DirecTV family package. Apparently, everyone knows it isn't family friendly! Thank so much for sharing this info.

  6. I had really hoped to see A Grandpa for Christmas and some other favorites. It will be a Hallmark Christmas all the way!

    1. YES, Hallmark is the place to be for Christmas!!!!

I miss them playing A Grandpa for Christmas, too. It was always one of my favorites. Thankfully, it is available on DVD!
