I am sad to share that America's Sweetheart,
Shirley Temple Black,
has passed away, at the age of 85.
Shirley was born on April 23, 1928 and has passed on Monday, February 10, 2014. She was surrounded by family and caregivers, at her home in Woodside, California. Shirley's acting career began, at the age of 3, in 1932, in a series of one-reelers. She has touched the hearts of many, and she shall always be remembered as America's "Little Princess"!
We Salute you Shirley Temple Black - for the Joy you brought America, during the Depression Years and for serving your country, under President Ronald Reagan, President Ford, and President George H.W. Bush, as an Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
I am proud to say I grew up, as many generations of children have,
singing her songs, especially "On the Good Ship Lollipop"
and "Animal Crackers in My Soup", and so on!
Our family loves watching her movies, too...
The Little Princess, Heidi, Curly Top,
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and many, many more!!!
I do hope generations to come will treasure them, as we did!
As Shirley has taken her final bow,
our hearts are filled with sadness and sympathy.
With our Heartfelt Prayers...
for her dear family and friends.

Thank you, Misty. I'm so sad I had to write it. She was such an amazing little girl and woman.
DeleteMy four sisters and I grew up watching a lot of Shirley Temple movies, with my favorite, I think being Little Princess... it was watched a lot in my childhood :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews you put in here about movies! I love watching the new When Calls the Heart series.
Oh, what wonderful memories Shirley Temple gives so many of us! That is wonderful, Desirae, that you and your 4 sisters loved Shirley and grew up enjoying her movies! How special! What joy she has brought so many of us... and will continue to do so through her movies and music!

TCM plans to air a marathon of her most popular films on March 9.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you for sharing this date. TCM is wonderful at giving nice tributes to classic movie actors and actresses.
DeleteTCM is changing its previously scheduled programming for Sunday, March 9 in order to honor the late Shirley Temple.
The new schedule line-up is, as follows...
TCM MEMORIAL TRIBUTE: SHIRLEY TEMPLE
March 9, 2014
4:30 PM Heidi (1937)
6:15 PM Stowaway (1936)
8:00 PM Bright Eyes (1934)
9:30 PM The Little Princess (1939)
11:15 PM I'll Be Seeing You (1944)
12:45 AM The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer (1947)
2:30 AM A Kiss For Corliss (1949)
4:15 AM That Hagen Girl (1947)
Looks like they are playing some when she was little and a few others, when she is grown up. Whatever age... she always has that same spunk. I look forward to seeing TCM's tribute and I hope they might show other various video clips, such as some of her early work, between movies.
Thank you, again, for sharing the date of this tribute.
Thanks, Net, heard it first, here. I can't tell you how many hours of joy this little lady brought to me as a child. I laughed, cried, sang and danced right along with her. God bless you, Ms. Temple, for you surly are with Him now.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing your childhood memories, Linda. It's amazing how one person's life has touched so many others. She will be sadly missed, but the joy she brought us - lives on!
DeleteGot so excited when I saw your post that a new Doris Roberts movie was in production - the Mrs Miracle series. When I clicked on, I found that this is a movie I've had since 2011 - what was the point in publishing this notice??? Now I am disappointed !
ReplyDeleteI am not sure, cecemom, where you saw this post on Doris Roberts. It sounds like an old posting on my site, before "Call Me Mrs. Miracle" was made.
DeleteCould you tell me where you saw the link to this post? Was it possibly under the "You might also like" section? Those are generated automatically and often show older, but relatable postings.
I, too, would love a sequel to the "Mrs. Miracle series. I have NOT heard any news on this happening - so I understand your disappointment.
