A New Grinch Movie

Is this a Wonderful or Awful idea?

“Then he got an idea. An awful idea.
The Grinch got a wonderful, *awful* idea!”

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment are Developing an all new movie animated version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. Through several sources we have learned that it will be a CG animated feature.

Deluxe DVD Edition

The “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” original cartoon animation was first created in 1966, based off the book by Dr Seuss. It was later adapted to Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a live-action movie version, in 2000, with Jim Carrey famously portraying The Grinch.

Like many, my favorite is still the original cartoon version, though I do think the Cindy Lou in the movie version is absolutely adorable. I just wish the scenes, especially the one where she sang the lovely song, “Where are you Christmas?” could have been a bit brighter. I know they probably wanted the setting to be darker to fit her solemn mood, but we could barely see her. That’s one thing I always think of when I think of the Dr. Seuss books, from the time I first read them as a little grirl... how they are filled with excitement, action, brightness, and color! I do hope the new creators will keep that in mind!

“Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot,
but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville - did not.
The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season.
Now, please don't ask why; no one quite knows the reason.”

One of the creators of this new film, Christopher Meledandri, has also produced Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who in 2008 and Dr. Seuss' the Lorax in 2012. I have seen "Horton", and thought it to be bright, fun, and cheerful.

If you are a fan of this beloved classic, then we shall all have high expectations for this new animated 3d movie version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”!

“Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer.
Cheer to all Whos far and near. Christmas Day is in our grasp,
so long as we have hands to clasp.
Christmas Day will always be just as long as we have we.
Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart, and hand in hand.”

  3. Yay! Trim up the Tree! That's the one thing wheen I watch the grinch cartoon - I always say it just started! Is it already over? It goes by so fast. Don't get me wrong, I do like it A LOT but it is pretty short. So I am really looking forward to seing what they come up with in a longer cartoon movie version. I do hope they do not make the Grinch look scary. And, I like your idea of keepig it bright and colorful. There are scenes in the Jim Carrey version that are just way too dark. What were the directors thinking? Plus, I feel that movie may be too long. We are all waiting for the part of the movie that tells the story from the Dr Seuss book where the Grinch steals the tree & presents, and Cindy Lou Who sees him, etc... and so on and it seems to take forever for the movie to get there. Anyway, that's my thoughts. Thank you for letting us know about it. Can't wait to tell my kids - they'll be thrilled! :) :) ;)
