TCM honors Ann Rutherford, forever remembered as Andy Hardy's Girl & Scarlett O'Hara's Sister!

If you are a fan of those wonderful Andy Hardy films (like me!) - then you'll instantly remember Ann Rutherford as Polly Benedict, Andy's sweet girl-next-door, who lit up the screen with her sensational spark and remarkable charisma!

Veteran film actress, Ann Rutherford, however, may be best known and remembered for playing Scarlett O'Hara's younger sister Carreen in Gone With the Wind. Ann passed away on June 11, 2012 in California at the age of 94.

Besides, Gone with the Wind (1939), Ann Rutherford had memorable roles in some of Hollywood's most iconic films, including Pride and Prejudice (1940) and Adventures of Don Juan (1948).

Ann was an attractive brunette supporting player and occasional lead of the 1930s and 40s who first gained prominence as the heroine in Mascot/Republic Westerns before finding lasting fame as Polly Benedict, Mickey Rooney's girlfriend, in the Andy Hardy series at MGM.

By the end of the 1940s, Ann Rutherford retired from movie-making to raise a family. She came out of retirement in the 1970s to appear in a few more movies and was also known for her role in the TV series The Bob Newhart Show playing Suzanne Pleshette's mother. Over the years, she also made various appearances at Gone with the Wind anniversary events.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will honor the life and career of Ann Rutherford on July 3 with over ten hours of back-to-back films.
