Ernest Borgnine was Born January 24, 1917 in Hamden, Connecticut to Charles and Anna Borgnine.
He served in the United States Navy for 10 years, from 1935- 1945.
Following that, his mother sugggested he take up acting, so, he took a course at the Randall School of Drama in Hartford, Connecticut. From there, he did theater, until he got a break on Broadway in 1949, in the production, "Harvey". He moved to L.A. in 1951 to further pursue his career. Borgnine was cast in many drama and western films.
My favorite early role of Mr. Borgnine's is in the film, Marty. I must not be alone, since he won that year, 1955, the Academy Award for Best Actor.
From there, he went on to act in many films for the big screen, and TV series, McHale's Navy (earning a Emmy Nomination), Airwolf, The Single Guy, and the last episode of the long-standing drama, ER (receiving another Emmy Nomination). He is so amazing - having been in over 100 films! Many of the Ernest Borgnine Movies are available on DVD.
My most recent favorite film of his, is "A Grandpa for Christmas" - a Hallmark Channel Original TV Movie. He is gruff, at first... yet sweet, as the grandpa who takes his grand-daughter in, when his only daughter is involved in a car accident.
Mr. Borgnine is also wonderful in the Hallmark Channel Western Movie, Love's Christmas Journey. He is captivating in his role as Nick, a mysterious man who saves another man's life.
In his personal life, Ernest Borgnine is married to Tova Borgnine and has 4 children (with his first and fourth wife).
Mr. Borgnine is currently working on a new Western Drama film, titled: "The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez".
Details for movie:
Ernest Borgnine plays Rex Page, an old man who is bitter about never becoming famous and having lived a life without any meaning. After suffering a stroke, he ends up in a nursing home staffed by Latin American immigrants. Put off by the situation, Rex focuses his energy on getting out, which places him at odds with the Latino workers. However, their relationship takes on new meaning when it is discovered that he once shook hands with Vicente Fernandez, a Mexican singer, producer and actor idolized throughout Latin culture. The employees soon begin to treat Rex like the celebrity he's always dreamed of being. (Written by an Anonymous writer at IMDB.com)
