Emily (Ford) misses her daughter Heather (Lahana) who is attending college in Boston. Since her father died, Heather is sensitive to her mom's dependence on long-standing holiday traditions. This Christmas, Heather has planned a trip to Phoenix with her boyfriend, but tells her mother she is staying on campus to study. After arranging a house-swap with Charles (Cavanagh), an English professor from Boston who wants Washington State's solitude in order to finish his novel, Emily hops on a flight to Boston to surprise Heather for Christmas. Unaware of the house swap, Emily's best friend, Faith (Miller) walks in on Charles at Emily's house and in Boston, Ray, Charles' brother (Bellows) responds to a 911 call only to find Emily at Charles' condo. 2. I really love Debbie Macomber's books. This was a great story in the book form, but it is 3/4's of the way through the movie and it does not follow the book. It is not in the same heartwarming style as the book was written. It is a cute movie, just not nearly as good as the book.

  4. am enjoying this book so far. But having been born and raised in Leavenworth, WA, I I have a couple parts upsetting. Yes, the book is fiction, so little details like a skating rink that isn't really there, and the nativity scene in front of the grocery store (it is actually in front of a church, where it belongs) and dancing elves that don't exist, aren't a problem because it is just a story. But where I was really bothered was when an incorrect historical fact was mentioned. Near the beginning of the book it states that Leavenworth was founded by German immigrants, which is very far from the truth. Even in fiction, if something or someone real is going to be portrayed, the author needs to do research and get his or her facts right.
It has been fun reading a book set in my hometown, and I am enjoying the story line. The incorrect information is the only complaint that I have.

  5. Debbie Macomber's (renamed) Trading Christmas was a predictable Christmas story of individuals pasts and the effect on "Christmas" present. There was also the love and romance I always enjoy. Enter Gil Bellows as "Ray." A new actor to me-although I saw Shawshank Redemption, I do not recall him. Gil Bellows immediately stole my heart. He did a wonderful job! I won't go in to great detail for those who have not seen this movie. Suffice it to say, this man-actor makes the entire movie worth watching. You can not help but to fall in love with his character. He was sensitive, kind, gentle, gorgeous, sexy and all that any woman would want from an ideal man. I have said too much. I recommend this movie to any hopeless romantic!
