(Press Release Continued...)

Having achieved great success with three original, primetime scripted series “When Calls the Heart,” “Good Witch” and “Chesapeake Shores,” Hallmark Channel expands its original programming slate with the primetime reality series “Meet the Peetes.” The series follows the lives of actress and activist Holly Robinson Peete and her husband Rodney Peete, a star in the NFL for 16 years. Each episode chronicles their lives as they navigate the waters of raising kids and dealing with the same trials and tribulations facing many American families. Production on the series is slated to begin this fall and will premiere February 2018.

“We couldn’t be happier to expand our relationship with Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete, whose family values and generosity of spirit are a perfect fit for our network,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks. “We’re excited to move into primetime, unscripted programming and we know our viewers will embrace the Peetes’ story and fall in love with them as much as we have.”

In “Meet the Peetes,” audiences will see Holly and Rodney’s hectic lives as they attempt to balance raising four kids, including one with autism, running their HollyRod charity and spending time with Holly’s 81-year-old mother Dolores, who moved in with them after retiring from her career as a talent manager. With daughter Ryan in college at New York University, their son with autism RJ working for the Los Angeles Dodgers he decides he’s ready to leave the family nest. On top of that, Holly's mother Dolores announces she’s ready to move out too - the Peetes are in a period of change that will continue to unfold in "Meet the Peetes" only on Hallmark Channel.

My Take...

For years there have been many families who have opened up their homes and lives to the world of reality television... including: the Robertson family on AE's "Duck Dynasty", the Duggars on TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" and "Counting On", the Bates on UP's "Bringing Up Bates", the Roloffs on TLC's "Little People Big World," Bill & Jen on TLC's "The Little Couple," and as you all know... I could go on and on! This is, however, Hallmark's first venture into the "reality" world. What do you think?

I feel this will certainly draw interest from a whole different Hallmark viewing audience. As long as the show is more true to the Hallmark image (which I'm sure it will be!), and a lot less like a reality show that could, say, be on E! (if you know what I mean!) - then I think everyone will be excited to watch this new reality series about the Peete family on the Hallmark Channel in 2018!

  2. That is exactly how I feel Net! At first I was like--what? And then I thught--this is Hallmark. It's gonna be good. And let's continue to draw more viewers. And I love the fact that the network is taking risks and also opening up the doors to diversity-something I'm very excited about (said the "white" girl who really feels strongly about diversity but doesn't usually say much)

  3. I was so hoping that Hallmark would stay away from reality shows and not follow in the same steps as the UP channel and so many others. There are all ready enough of these shows on TV today. Hallmark has all ready a good thing going with their current programming. We just need more of that type of programming not reality shows. UP channel could learn a lot from the Hallmark channel.

    1. I would be willing to guess that the majority of Hallmark’s audience watches their network to avoid reality shows. And reality shows are one of the reasons why I don’t watch UP Network as much anymore. I have a feeling that the ratings of “When Calls the Heart” are going to affect the ratings of this new reality show, especially since both shows are premiering next February at primetime. I agree with Anonymous that UP Network could learn from Hallmark in terms of making good, quality movies. I recently watched “High Rise Rescue” (I had it saved on my DVR) and it was not only one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year, it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. What’s so frustrating is that UP Network is capable of making good movies and they have done so in the past. If any of UP Network’s future projects are anywhere near as bad as “High Rise Rescue” was, I would question the network's priorities.

    2. My name is Chuck and I'm the one that wrote the earlier comment about this reality show that Hallmark is airing and the reality shows that are on the UP channel. I agree with your comments that the quality of shows that the UP channel are airing has just gone downhill tremendously. I've got to the point where I don't even record anything that the UP channel makes anymore. One of the best shows that the UP channel has is Heartland (and it's made by the Canadian Network) and they used to show daily repeats of it but now they only air but one repeat a week now. There are just too many networks out there today that are airing reality shows and enough is enough. I just hate to see Hallmark mess up a good thing.

    3. Thank you for sharing, Chuck. I'm not sure how this reality show venture will go for Hallmark, but I guess ratings will tell. I am glad to know they are planning for this to be a family-friendly show, so that is good news.

As for UP, I keep hoping they will do more movies for the family, like Hallmark. I, too, LOVE Heartland on their station, but you are so right, it is not played nearly enough.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Blessings, Net

    4. So, Heartland is on UP? I had seen episodes earlier, but thought I was watching Hallmark! I liked Heartland, and wondered why I could not find it on Hallmark, NOW I know! I would watch UP just for that show!
I am hoping and praying that Hallmark gives up on the idea of "reality" shows, because the junk that is on other networks is EXACTLY the reason I started watching Hallmark in the first place. I like the movies, no complaints, and I have zero complaints about the Christmas movies, but generally turn off when the comedies come on. Basically, the people who complain about not seeing enough of the Golden Girls, frasier, full house and other sitcoms on Hallmark, could simply turn the channel to virtually ANY other network and watch them played ad nauseum!

    5. YES!!! The Television Series "Heartland" with Jack, Tim, Amy, Ty, Lou, Georgie, etc... is on the UP Channel! My family and I love it, too!

I have a list of all the "Heartland" episodes that are currently airing on UP, here!

Plus, you can see past episodes of "Heartland" every morning at 7am EST. on UP!

Hope this is helpful to you! So glad to hear how much you have enjoyed the series, too! Blessings, Net

  4. Don't go to reality ... because it is scripted anyway and I am tired of seeing people's drama. Stick with what works!

  5. Don't they already have a reality shoe on another channel. Are these rerun episodes?

    1. Anonymous, I also thought I remembered them hawking this same show on some other channel! I didn't watch, but remember it being advertised. Apparently, it failed there, so now they are foisting it upon Hallmark viewers, who, I am sure, have left the other networks for Hallmark, precisely to get AWAY from these ridiculous types of shows! NO MORE "SO-CALLED" reality shows!

  6. No more reality shows, please! I can't believe Hallmark is doing this.

  7. Not sure about this. If it's like an E reality show in any way this could spell trouble for Hallmark.

  8. I'm so very disappointed to hear about this. Reality shows are nothing but cheap programming--in every sense of the word "cheap." Substituting inexpensive-to-make reality shows for well produced movies and classic comedies is a real step downward. I agree with Shana and Susan--no more reality shows, please!! And please be sure to bring back Frasier in the new year; as both my husband and I agree, it's the best comedy ever made. Every year we can't wait for the late-night comedies to return!

    1. The Peetes had a reality show on Own that was nothing but positive. Some people are overreacting in here.

  9. No more reality shows! Hallmark has been known for quality entertainment - please keep it that way.

  10. I agree with many of you on this subject. I was dismayed to see yet another "reality show", and on the Hallmark Channel! As likeable as the Peetes are, yet another reality show is not the way to go. "Reality show" is a fallacy term anyway. Who is "real" with a camera in their face?

  11. "Reality show" = " d00 d00 "
