Fall in... "Love at First Glance" with Hallmark Channel's Original Valentine's Day Movie starring Amy Smart and Adrian Grenier!

MOVIE REVIEW

Movie: Love at First Glance

Network: Hallmark Channel

Original Air Date: February 14, 2017

Hallmark first released news on this movie in a press release I shared here. Originally the movie was titled “A Worthwhile Life,” but has been renamed "Love at First Glance," which in my humble opinion, is far better! After seeing the trailer for this upcoming Valentine's Day Movie, I had to share it with all of you - plus, I screen-capped some images below!

PLOT:

Storyline via Hallmark: A young woman’s hope for an engagement is upended unexpectedly when her fiancΓ© tells her he is looking for someone more adventurous. On her train ride home, she finds herself trading glances with a handsome stranger who, as he exits the train, leaves his phone behind. As she endeavors to return the phone, she finds herself on a journey of self-discovery.

More plot details via Hallmark: After journalist Mary Landers (Amy Smart) is assigned to write a Valentine's Day story about "The Meaning of Love," her long-time boyfriend breaks up with her, leaving Mary feeling that her life is boring and predictable. Riding the crowded train home, she locks eyes with photo journalist James Fielding (Adrian Grenier) but before they can speak, he exits and accidentally leaves his phone behind. Finding that phone changes her life and Mary discovers through James that life is an adventure, never knowing where it is going to lead.

  2. I for one am glad to see Amy Smart in a Hallmark movie. I thought she was great in the ABC Family Channel the 12 Dates of Christmas which always seems to be on Netflix. I would urge those of you who haven't seen that, to go online and find it and watch it.

    1. Amy Smart looked so familiar but I couldn't place her....until I read your post! Thanks for posting that she is "12 Dates of Christmas." I agree, she was terrific in that movie!

I agree. Every year, Freeform airs the 12 Dates of Christmas only once and I record it to watch every year. This year it aired at 12AM which made it impossible for almost everyone to watch unless they were looking for it. Even though it borrows heavily from Groundhog's Day, it's still one of my favorite Christmas movies!

    3. I LOVE 12 Dates, too! It's kind of quirky, so you just never know if others like it, but it's one of those unique, special ones, in my opinion, that have a ton of details and little things you notice each time you watch!

Personally, I love how they show each of the 12 days of Christmas as they fade into a new scene. If you've never noticed this feature, you'll have to go back and be sure to look for it.

I LOVE knowing you all LOVE it, too! I just checked, and 12 Dates of Christmas is available through Amazon Video, but really should be put on DVD, too!

By the way, some of you might also recognize Amy Smart all the way back to the TV show Felicity. That's where I recall first seeing her!

    1. I totally agree, Amy!!! Looks so good!!! Plus, I think it looks like Hallmark has put a lot of time and effort in the production and promotion of this movie... I'm truly hoping we all love it!

Glad you enjoyed the trailer! - I just fell in love with it, too, and had to share it!!! :)

  5. So excited about this movie. She also plays in another movie I liked Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds. I haven't watched 12 days of Christmas in two years or more even though Christmas is over I might just have to watch it on Netflix since we are having a snowed in weekend⛄❄⛄

  10. Does anyone know who sings that song in the movie "She's Back in Your Arms again".

  11. Amy Smart and Adrian Grenier were both wonderful but not enough screen time together to even judge their chemistry :-/
I thought this movie was different and unique for sure but I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea. Some parts were awkward for me. Both actors were wonderful though!

    1. She was in a car accident. Such a sad scene.

    2. The whole amnesiac plot with the lifelong sweetheart was ridiculously heart wrenching. Rhis definitely isn't The Vow.

  14. Who plays Victor in the movie - he looks so familiar- but the character is not listed in the cast list

  15. It took me a while to warm up to it. I was getting tired of Mary meeting all these people in James' life and not actually meeting him (or re-meeting) him until the very final few moments. Also not quite sure how Mary's male friend figured into the story. Sort of an unnecessary character. Different but good.

  16. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about this one either...I was expecting something else. I was hoping for something like one of the Christmas movies that premiered on HMM for 2016. Depth, but still very cute with moments that make you cry. James' past in regard to his mother and former girlfriend was very sad though, but I felt the movie was missing something.

  17. I tried to watch it 3x but still cannot warm up to it. This movie is not my cup of tea.

  18. I had a chance to watch "Love at First Glance" recently and I ended up liking it. Here are the things that I liked about it:

-- The story of the movie, especially the concept of James' story being told through the perspectives of other people, was very creative, intriguing, and unique (especially since this is something that Hallmark hasn't really done before).

-- The acting overall was good, but Adrian Grenier's acting talents were the best!

-- There was an appropriate amount of comedy in this movie that didn't make it seem too silly.

But there were things about this movie that I found weird. Here are situations from the movie that I found to be weird:

-- The idea of James letting a woman who he doesn't know and has never met before write an article about his life.

-- The concept of Mary falling in love with and dreaming about a guy that she doesn't know and has never met.

-- Mary naming her dog, "Boyfriend".

-- James giving his homemade valentine (that his mom said to give to his "one true love") to a woman he doesn't know and had never met until that point.

On a final note, I don't think this movie should have been given as much promotional hype as it did. The trailers for this movie made it seem like it would be "the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie that should have been". As I was watching this movie, it just felt like a standard Hallmark movie that didn't need any special treatment. Maybe some of this movie's promotional hype should have gone to "Love Lock" (the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie) or a movie premiering later in the year.

  19. I love the story but there did not seem to be much chemistry between the Mary and James, I actually thought it would end up being her best friend but that may just be me.

    1. It wasn't just you. I totally agree, Debbie! It seemed rushed. In the end, they were still strangers.

  20. It was never officially said, but I think most assumed that he was.

If you have followed my site through the years, then most likely you already know, I do not agree with or support this, according to my faith.

Overall, in spite of this character, this movie was not one that captured me. The love story between the two main characters, Mary and James, in my opinion, fell flat. So... to be honest, this is not a Hallmark movie I was taken by.

  21. Who played his mother when he was a little boy?

    ReplyDelete
  22. IMHO, this is the darkest movie Hallmark runs.

Between his Mom's death and the accident and amnesia with his girlfriend, this seems more like a Lifetime movie or perhaps something Nicholas Sparks would write.

    1. Bill, I totally agree... there are definitely some deeper issues with this movie. It's not your typical, lighthearted Hallmark love story. I, personally, had a hard time feeling that the two leads were falling in love - when they had extremely limited, minimal contact with one another throughout the film. I'm with you - on it feeling more like a Lifetime movie.

  23. Are you serious? I can't believe that they added a character like that! I don't agree with that either. I will never watch this one since I know this. Has Hallmark made any other movies with characters like that Net? I want to make sure to never watch them.

  24. Yes, there is also a brief mention in A Bride for Christmas.

  25. Thank you so much for letting me know!:)

  26. I guess I’m in the minority, but I really, really loved this movie! Despite the lack of screen time between the leads, I still found the romance compelling and loved how she learned James’s story as well as discovered her own passions in life. It’s different for a Hallmark story, which I appreciated. I also loved the healthy platonic male/female friendship between Mary and Victor. Adrien Grenier is just amazing.

  27. Would love to know the name of the song and who sings it in the bar scene. Sounds so much like the same song in The Christmas Card (dance scene).
