STUDIO CITY, CA, October 3 – Adrian Grenier (“Entourage”) and Amy Smart (“Justified”) have been cast as the leads in “A Worthwhile Life,” a new, original movie premiering on Hallmark Channel in 2017. Production is set to begin this month in and around Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mary Landers (Smart) is a young woman whose hope for an engagement is unexpectedly upended when her fiancΓ© tells her he is looking for someone more adventurous. On her train ride home, she trades glances with James Fielding (Grenier), a handsome stranger who appears to be the larger than life adventurer she is not. As throngs of shoppers exit the train all that is left of the mystery man is the phone he accidentally left behind. Mary endeavors to return it to him and finds herself on a journey of self-discovery. In the process she realizes that she may not be so different from the intriguing man who crossed her path after all.

“A Worthwhile Life” is from Crown Media Productions, LLC. Risa Shapiro and Kathy Kloves are executive producers and Stan Spry is producer. Kevin Connor will direct from a script by Kloves.

  1. Must be a Hall of Fame movie

Of course, anything can happen and many things change even after Hallmark has announced them -- but I don't *think* this will be a Hall of Fame movie. It wasn't supposed to be a Hall of Fame movie when it was first announced in the summer. It was just supposed to be a regular ol' installment in the Countdown to Christmas.

Now that it seems to have been bumped out of the Christmas line-up and moved to "early 2017" (according to Entertainment Weekly), I don't think it would be a Hall of Fame movie because the next HoF movie in line (after the one in November) is the Countdown to Valentine's Day movie called "Love Lock."

If the recent movie with Jon Voight, James Caan and Melanie Griffith wasn't a Hall of Fame movie, which was surprising, then I wouldn't necessarily expect that the Adrian Grenier/Amy Smart movie is Hall of Fame either.

I think that Hallmark's movie budget has increased a bit, and they are starting to branch out and bring some different, somewhat more widely known, names into the mix (Mena Suvari, Jaime King, Oliver Hudson, Rachael Leigh Cook, Jewel, Mariah Carey, etc.).

I don't know if someone like Adrian Grenier or Oliver Hudson would suddenly become part of "the Hallmark family" as we know it -- next to Candace, Danica, Lacey, Kellie, Erin, etc. -- but they're at least doing one movie each.

It will be interesting to see what happens, and if these new faces (new to Hallmark, that is) will attract a different demographic to the channel, and also if the existing, longtime viewers of the channel will respond well to new actors.

    2. Adrian Grenier was just in a big box office movie that was apart of a very male oriented franchise. The audience for Entourage is not the Hallmark audience so I'm not sure who they're hoping will tune in

    3. Well, they're both pretty well known actors so that will help with the promotion of the movie. I could definitely see Amy Smart becoming part of the Hallmark family.

I'm sure the point is that they are trying to attract a slightly different demographic to the channel, not cater to the existing demo.

But, at the same time.... I'm very familiar with Entourage. I watched it. I also watched Sex & the City... and The Sopranos, and various other series on HBO, Showtime, etc.

People who watch shows on HBO and other premium cable channels can enjoy Hallmark movies too.

    1. I saw the trailer for “Love at First Glance” recently and, I have to say, it was the best trailer for a Hallmark movie that I’ve ever seen! The trailer for “Love Locks” was also good too. Hallmark’s Countdown to Valentine’s Day line-up looks really promising for 2017!
