PASADENA, CA – January 8, 2016 -- Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is the home for suspenseful drama and mystery found nowhere else on television, and this year the fastgrowing network unveils an exciting programming roll-out featuring top talent, new franchises and returning favorites.
“Hallmark Movies & Mysteries has such an exciting success story to tell, last year earning a spot as one of the fastest growing cable networks with historic audience growth,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP, “We continue to develop programs with some of television’s most iconic stars, and this year are on tap to produce 23 original films.”
Singer-songwriter and author Jewel is set to star and executive produce another new set of mystery movies for the network, the “Fixer Upper Mysteries” based upon New York Times bestselling author Kate Carlisle’s novels. In the small resort town of Lighthouse Cove on the coast near Mendocino, CA, everyone knows that the best man for the job is a woman. And that woman is Shannon Hammer (Jewel), owner of Hammer Construction Company and an expert in Victorian home restoration. Through her work, she stumbles across clues hidden in the old homes, uncovering past secrets and becoming an unlikely sleuth to crack unsolved mysteries. Executive producers are Joel Rice, Michael Prupas, Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, Jesse Prupas, Jeremy Spry and Jewel. The movies are being produced by Muse Entertainment.
Production will begin this year with star Kellie Martin on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries anticipated new mystery franchise “Hailey Dean Mysteries,” based upon Nancy Grace’s novels. Portrayed by Martin, Hailey Dean is a bright, disciplined and acutely observant former prosecutor who is now in high demand as an expert witness. With each new installment in the franchise, Hailey will find herself involved in a new case, but when she’s called to help she is motivated to get to the heart of what really happened. She is helped in that regard by her two secret weapons: telegenic good looks and a generous supply of charm that tricks some into thinking she is a lightweight. Hailey has a compelling history, when her college fiancé was senselessly murdered during a robbery. The pain of this loss has made her supremely sympathetic to those who have been affected by crime. But because of it, she hasn’t been able to once again open herself up to love. Howard Braunstein and Nancy Grace will executive produce the project.
This summer, Bruce Boxleitner will star in the original movie, “It’s A Crime,” as Jake Bonner, a retired Texas ranger with expertise investigating unsolved crimes. He gets roped into an investigation when his daughter’s friend goes missing in Boston, and the police suspect that she is involved in the disappearance. Now, it’s up to Jake to go to the big city to clear his daughter’s good name, all while navigating the politics of the Boston PD and working alongside the fiery police Captain, portrayed by Lindsay Wagner (“The Bionic Woman”). Tim Johnson executive produces the film from a script written by Stanley Isaacs.
Shenae Grimes-Beech, John Schneider and Sean Faris have been cast in the smoldering new original mystery movie series, “White Hot,” based on the thrilling novel by bestselling author Sandra Brown. When her younger brother, Danny, commits suicide, Sayre Hoyle (Grimes-Beech) breaks her vow never to return to her Louisiana hometown, and gets drawn back into her tyrannical father's web, John Schneider as Huff Hoyle. He and her older brother— who control the town's sole industry, an iron foundry—are as corrupt as ever. Worse, they have hired a shrewd and disarming new lawyer, Beck Merchant (Faris)…a man with his own agenda. When the police determine that Danny's suicide was actually a homicide, Sayre must battle her family—and her passionate feelings for Beck—as she confronts a powder keg of old hatreds, past crimes, and a surprising plan of revenge. Jim Head, Joel Rice, Sandra Brown, Michael Prupas and Shawn Williamson will executive produce the film.
Premiering this month on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is the “Flower Shop Mystery” franchise based upon the best-selling series by Kate Collins, “Mum’s The Word” starring Brooke Shields on January 17 at 9 pm ET/PT. Production has already begun on the second installment in the franchise, “Snipped In The Bud,” which is set to debut later this year.
Also... Ali Sweeney (recently) reprised her role of baker turned sleuth Hannah Swensen in the latest “Murder She Baked” movie, “A Peach Cobbler Mystery,” January 10 at 9 pm ET/PT.
Viewers can also expect new installments in the popular mystery franchises “Garage Sale Mystery” starring Lori Loughlin, “Aurora Teagarden” starring Candace Cameron Bure, “Gourmet Detective” starring Dylan Neal and Brooke Burns and four new “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” movies starring Eric Mabius from executive producers Martha Williamson (“Touched by an Angel”), Joel Rice, Michael Prupas and Allen Lewis.
